Chapter 83
Upon seeing the newly appeared interface, Mu Huiyue was slightly stunned.
Event card pool?!
Having been bound to the “Spirit Ranch Story” system for so long, the Spirit Spring Temple’s card pool had always been a regular mixed pool, where the chances of drawing items of the same rank were the same—purely based on luck. Mu Huiyue had thought there would never be a separate event-up card pool.
She clicked on the details of the event card pool.
[Harvest Season Special Recommended Summon] is about to begin!
To commemorate the upcoming golden autumn month, the ranch will open its first limited-time event card pool.
During the event, the probability of drawing seed-type resources will increase by 200%, with many limited-edition rare seeds appearing!
Pets with the [Harvest] attribute and skills can further increase the probability of rare seeds appearing.
We encourage all ranch owners and their pets to collect more seeds and fully enjoy the fun of planting and harvesting!
…
The description of the event pool is similar to previous mobile game event periods, with the exception that the probability of certain items appearing is individually boosted, along with the addition of “bonus characters” that can increase the chances of rare items appearing.
This time, the characters that can provide a bonus effect are related to pets and traits or skills associated with “Harvest.”
Although it’s unclear what degree of relation is required to count as being associated with Harvest, the “A-grade Skill Book: Harvest” that Mu Huiyue drew previously definitely counts as a bonus skill.
As long as she can contract a pet capable of teaching “Harvest,” she will benefit from the event pool’s bonus effects, gaining a large number of various seed resources, along with previously unavailable rare seeds.
Mu Huiyue is eagerly looking forward to this. The crops produced by the ranch are of the highest quality.
Even experience fruits at the R-rank provide considerable improvements for pets. If a few SR or even SSR-ranked rare fruits appear, it might help her break through the current bottleneck and allow Ellen and White Fang to evolve smoothly.
The Space Fruits used by Beast Masters are even more effective than the Space Stones produced by the Mystic Realm. If she can acquire a large amount of Space Fruits, Mu Huiyue herself can also quickly enhance her Beast Master space and talents in the short term.
The Harvest Season event pool will start in three weeks and last for thirty days, which means Mu Huiyue has almost two months of preparation time left.
Before that, she needed to contract a suitable wood-type pet and complete as many daily tasks in the system as possible to accumulate Spirit Dew drops for summoning.
…
A few days later, Jingzhou University held the opening adoption day for the “Pet Nursery.”
Mu Huiyue and Wen Li had registered early and were among the first to enter the nursery.
As expected of a prestigious old university, Jingzhou University’s Pet Nursery was quite large, with a rich variety of species. It covered almost all attribute categories, from elite species to monarch species.
Upon entering the nursery, Mu Huiyue and Wen Li went their separate ways to their targeted areas.
Wen Li, of course, wanted to contract a fire-type pet. There were many fire attribute cubs in the nursery, occupying a huge area. Wen Li planned to familiarize herself with them, hoping to meet a new companion that both she and A-Miao would like.
Mu Huiyue, on the other hand, headed to the area for breeding wood-type pets.
Compared to universities like Yunzhou and Lizhou, which were famous for their wood-type pets, Jingzhou University didn’t have particularly outstanding representative wood-type pets.
Most of the wood-type species in the nursery were common to the Jingzhou region.
Mu Huiyue hoped to contract a wood-type pet with a species rank above monarch species.
Based on her previous experience with skill books, in order to successfully teach an A-grade skill book, the pet not only needs to match in terms of attributes and traits, but it also needs to be at least in its mature stage or belong to the monarch species.
She carefully examined the pets in the wood-type area and their breeding data.
After evaluating everything, two pets were barely worth considering.
The first one was a dual-attribute pet, Shadowy Tree Shade, with both Dark and Wood attributes.
In terms of attributes alone, this was Mu Huiyue’s ideal combination. It could benefit from all the bonuses of the Beast Master talent, Dark Attribute Enhancement, and also had the potential to learn wood-type skills.
However, Shadowy Tree Shade was a general-class species, with the core skill of the C-grade Dark skill, Shadow Cloak. After evolution, it would become a monarch species, the Shadow Spirit, with a single Dark attribute.
Putting aside the fact that the Shadow Cloak skill overlapped with Ellen’s role, although Shadowy Tree Shade had a wood attribute, its primary attribute leaned more towards Dark. Most of the wood-type skills it could learn were binding-type skills.
This species itself also contradicted the impressions of “Harvest” and “Flourish,” appearing to lack the potential to learn the “Harvest” skill.
The second one was a medium-level general-class pet, a wood and ice dual-type pet, Crystal Willow.
Currently, it was just a crystalline ice willow branch. After evolution, it would become a medium-level monarch species, the Ancient Frost Pine, and would be able to learn the ice-type domain skill, “Frozen Wilderness,” which turns the entire area into a blizzard-ravaged scene.
The Ancient Frost Pine was a very powerful battle pet. Its ice-type skills had tremendous power, and its wood attribute also allowed it to learn many healing skills, making it a troublesome skill combination on the battlefield.
As a result, Crystal Willow was quite popular. The few little ones in the nursery were quickly reserved, and after a brief hesitation, Mu Huiyue saw the last sparkling willow branch contracted by a second-year senior.
She let out a small sigh of relief—it saved her from further indecision.
The situation with Crystal Willow was similar to that of Shadowy Tree Shade. Although it had the wood attribute, its primary attribute was focused on another element.
The ice attribute overlapped with White Fang’s adaptability, and even after evolution, the Ancient Frost Pine didn’t have much compatibility with the “Harvest” skill, so Mu Huiyue’s interest in contracting it was not very high.
There were many wood-type pets, but it wasn’t easy to find one that matched her needs and could also learn the “Harvest” skill…
She carefully toured the pet nursery but still couldn’t find a suitable individual.
Most of the cubs in the nursery were from popular general-class species, with evolutionary paths leading to monarch species, or even potential evolution into emperor species.
These species were the most suitable for young Beast Masters just entering university.
Higher-level species had greater potential but required more resources and time to cultivate, making them unsuitable for young Beast Masters who hadn’t yet built up resources in their early stages.
However, Mu Huiyue’s situation was different. With her experience raising Ellen and White Fang, and with Professor Xie Qingwei backing her, her family background was relatively solid. She hoped to contract a higher-tier pet cub.
It would be even better if she could find a wood-type pet with a monarch species as its base from the very beginning.
Mu Huiyue stroked her chin thoughtfully. “But generally, monarch species with an initial-stage body have a definite evolutionary path leading to emperor species, not just vague evolutionary potential. They are very rare and valuable.”
It’s unlikely that there would be any in Jingzhou University’s nursery. I’ll have to look for opportunities through the Affairs Bureau route later.
As she thought this, Mu Huiyue walked out of the wood-type pet area and decided to head over to the fire-type pet area to meet up with Wen Li.
Before she could reach the fire-type area, she saw Wen Li rushing out, her face filled with anxiety.
“Wen Li,” Mu Huiyue called out to her. “What happened?”
“Huiyue!” Wen Li rushed over, her voice trembling with anxiety and holding back sobs, her eyes looking red and teary.
“You came just in time. Help me look for… A-Miao, A-Miao’s gone missing!”
“Missing?”
“Can’t you sense it through the contract?” Mu Huiyue gently patted her back, trying to calm her down. “Don’t worry, take your time and tell me what happened.”
“A-Miao has left the range where I can sense it in my Beast Master space…!” Wen Li shook her head.
“I was just watching the fire-type pet cubs with A-Miao, and one of the seniors at the nursery recommended a newly hatched Red Fire Bug. I was about to go over to check it out, but when I turned around, A-Miao ran off…”
Wen Li was currently a Level 3 Beast Master, and her Beast Master space was about the size of a soccer field. Her sensing range could cover most of the fire-type pet area, so unless A-Miao deliberately moved out of range, it would be difficult for it to run this far in such a short time. The possibility of A-Miao getting lost by accident could be ruled out.
Mu Huiyue pondered for a moment, listening to Wen Li’s words. It seemed like A-Miao had run off on its own, even beyond the range of the Beast Master’s sensing.
A-Miao had a stable and reliable personality. It wasn’t the kind of pet that would worry its Beast Master for no reason.
“Think carefully, has anything been unusual with A-Miao recently?” Mu Huiyue asked.
Wen Li lowered her gaze, thinking for a while, then said, “A-Miao doesn’t seem very interested in contracting a new partner. When I asked it what kind of new companion it liked, it gave a vague answer. It seemed unhappy once we entered the nursery…”
At this point, she suddenly had an epiphany, looking at Mu Huiyue. “Could A-Miao be jealous and upset? Because I’m going to contract a second partner…”
Mu Huiyue fell silent. Only now did she notice this possibility. As expected of the somewhat blunt Wen Li…
The more Wen Li thought about it, the more likely it seemed. She also felt a bit guilty, having been so immersed in her own excitement that she hadn’t considered A-Miao’s feelings.
“So, A-Miao is… running away from home in a fit of anger?” She checked the connection with A-Miao and still couldn’t locate it. She could only tell through the connection that A-Miao was safe for now, but its position was far away, and it seemed unwilling to see its Beast Master.
Wen Li ran a hand through her hair, letting out a frustrated sigh as she sat down on the edge of a flower bed.
Mu Huiyue thought for a moment and summoned the tooth soldier from the shadow.
If this was truly an emotional issue, it would be pointless for Wen Li to search for Flame Strike Meow. It might be better to ask her own pets for help.
Ellen had overheard their conversation and understood the meaning behind being summoned by his Beast Master.
Click, click. (Let the little dog come with me, Huiyue.)
Dark-type pets have a unique sensitivity to emotions. Ellen was familiar with Flame Strike Meow’s emotional fluctuations, and with Baiya’s help, they should be able to locate her.
Besides, Flame Strike Meow wouldn’t run too far away.
As Ellen’s fellow starting pet, he valued Flame Strike Meow highly and could relate to her current feelings.
Mu Huiyue nodded, and a summoning array with four layers of beast master seals appeared in front of her. Little Cloud Dog materialized and barked energetically.
Ellen briefly explained the situation to Little Cloud Dog. Baiya wagged its tail and helped Ellen integrate into its shadow. Then it gave a bark to Mu Huiyue before stepping into the shadows and disappearing.
Having had the experience of searching for the Yanluo pages before, Mu Huiyue felt confident letting the two of them go together.
Wen Li, who had witnessed the scene, couldn’t help but show an envious expression. “…Your two pets at home have such a good relationship, Huiyue.”
