Chapter 101: Saying One Thing, Doing Another

“Do you like them?” Su Yu asked Xiao Bao.

Xiao Bao nodded vigorously. “I like them.”

“If you like them, it’s fine. You don’t need to worry about anything else. If your mother gets angry later, Daddy will handle it,” Su Yu assured him.

Standing behind Su Yu, Wang Jinhe heard his words, and her temples throbbed with annoyance.

Xiao Bao saw Wang Jinhe and poked Su Yu’s shoulder.

“Xiao Bao, which one do you want to play with? We’ll play together later,” Su Yu continued, still oblivious.

Xiao Bao looked at Su Yu, unsure whether he should tell Daddy right away or wait for Mommy to leave.

“Daddy, I want to tell you something,” Xiao Bao said cautiously, glancing at Wang Jinhe, who didn’t look very pleased.

Su Yu responded with a simple “Mm.” “What do you want to tell me?”

“Mommy is behind you.”

Su Yu turned around while holding Xiao Bao, only to see Wang Jinhe standing with her arms crossed, wearing a half-smile.

Upon seeing Wang Jinhe, Su Yu cleared his throat and asked, “What’s wrong?”

Pointing to the contents in the box, Wang Jinhe smiled and said, “What do you mean? “What do you think is wrong? Su Yu, you still know that you have violated my will, right?”

“All the preparations have been made, right? There isn’t much this time. The rest are some stationery like brushes, ink, paper, and inkstones, along with a few early education books. Look.” Su Yu picked up the toys on top to reveal the educational materials underneath, such as books and stationery.

Wang Jinhe shook his head and said, “Looking at you, you don’t seem like someone who’s a father now.”

“Look at our faces, and you should know, right?”

“I’m not joking with you,” Wang Jinhe said seriously.

“I’m not joking either. Just by looking at our faces, it should be clear that Xiao Bao and I share a father-son relationship,” Su Yu said, staring at Xiao Bao’s face and speaking very earnestly.

“If someone can’t tell we’re father and son just by looking at our faces, then they must be blind, right?”

Wang Jinhe looked at Su Yu with a somewhat rueful expression. Hadn’t he noticed that, with his personality, people might even believe that he was Xiao Bao’s brother?

Shaking his head, Wang Jinhe said, “Where did your playful nature come from?”

“I’m just playing with my son; that’s why it has to be like this, don’t you think? How else could Xiao Bao have such a good relationship with me? Isn’t that right, Xiao Bao?”

Xiao Bao nodded enthusiastically. “I like it when Daddy plays with me.”

Seeing Xiao Bao like this, what more could Wang Jinhe say? Since Xiao Bao felt this way, she had no choice but to accept it.

Reluctantly nodding, Wang Jinhe sighed and said, “Alright, you two enjoy your time together here. I’ll go prepare dinner.”

“Okay.”

Xiao Bao, perched on Su Yu’s shoulder, looked at Wang Jinhe as he left and asked curiously, “Daddy, do you think Mommy will be angry?”

Su Yu considered it seriously before he spoke, “You can be completely assured about this. Your mommy is not that petty.”

He knew that Wang Jinhe simply didn’t want Xiao Bao to get too engrossed in playing with these things. They certainly didn’t want Xiao Bao to lose his motivation for studying.

“In the future, you must be very diligent in your studies. That way, your mommy won’t have any complaints. What do you think?”

Xiao Bao giggled and nodded, “Dad is right. I’ll play after I study.”

Su Yu planted a big kiss on Xiao Bao’s cheek. “Xiao Bao is such a good boy.”

Together, they placed the books on the bookshelf and the ink and paper on the desk. Su Yu also stored the rice paper in the nearby cabinet.

“This desk your mom prepared for you is really great. You can put everything on it,” Su Yu affirmed.

It could hold the books they were currently reading, and the cabinet was perfect for storing things not in immediate use. The desk was wide enough for Xiao Bao to study on.

“Yeah, Mommy is amazing. Daddy, you’re not as good as Mommy,” Xiao Bao said, looking smug.

“Is that so?”

“Mommy can do many things, all of which you can’t,” Xiao Bao said matter-of-factly. His mommy could make so many delicious dishes that his daddy couldn’t.

“It’s okay. I’ll just eat the food your mommy makes,” Su Yu replied nonchalantly.

Su Yu’s playful teasing made Xiao Bao laugh incessantly. They played in the room for a while, and as they looked at the small crocodile on the bed, Xiao Bao expressed his concern: “Dad, do you think big brother will come back? What if he’s gone and doesn’t come back?”

Big brother had been gone for a long time, and there was no sign of his return. Xiao Bao was starting to worry about him.

“He won’t just disappear. When he comes back, he’ll definitely come to play with Xiao Bao,” Su Yu said as he gently ruffled Xiao Bao’s hair. His eyes were filled with affection; he didn’t want Xiao Bao to worry too much.

Xiao Bao still seemed a bit disappointed. “Daddy…”

“What’s wrong?” Su Yu asked.

Xiao Bao hesitated for a long time before gathering the courage to say, “Dad, can you find big brother? Can you help me send a message to him? I want to ask when he’ll be able to come back.”

“Sure, you write the letter, and I’ll have Yuan Bao deliver it for you.”

Xiao Bao was overjoyed. “Thank you, Daddy.”

Xiao Bao began to write a letter to Zhang Zhilin, and as Su Yu watched his son’s earnest expression, he suddenly felt a little emotional and even a touch of jealousy.

When he returned to the capital, Xiao Bao didn’t mention writing a letter to him, but now he was writing to Zhang Zhilin? Luckily, Xiao Bao was his son; otherwise, he might have driven Zhang Zhilin away to protect his precious relationship.

“What’s wrong, Daddy?” Xiao Bao asked, puzzled, as he observed Su Yu’s displeased expression.

“Why didn’t Xiao Bao think of writing to me when Daddy went back to the capital?” Su Yu finally couldn’t help but ask.

Xiao Bao hesitated for a moment and then said, “I didn’t know many words back then.”

Su Yu looked at Xiao Bao with a twitching corner of his mouth. He couldn’t argue with that excuse. Xiao Bao had indeed learned more words and could write better now.

“Xiao Bao, do you want to be better than big brother when he returns?” Su Yu raised an eyebrow as he looked at his son.

Xiao Bao nodded vigorously. “Yes.”

“If that’s what Xiao Bao wants, Daddy will help you achieve it. You don’t need to worry about it,” Su Yu said gently.

Xiao Bao became instantly happy. “Thank you, Daddy. Xiao Bao’s Daddy is the best Daddy in the world.”

No other daddy was as good as his.

Su Yu pinched Xiao Bao’s cheek playfully and teased, “Oh my, why is Xiao Bao’s mouth so sweet today? Did you eat something delicious?”

Xiao Bao shook his head. He had only eaten two pieces of dessert.
