Chapter 10: Chance Encounter 4
Qin Ruyan withdrew her hand, her eyelashes drooping. Her palm was slightly sweaty.
She didn’t know why, but she felt inexplicably apprehensive about this man.
Zhang Qiyao didn’t notice her best friend’s emotions. All she wanted was for her brother to leave quickly.
Lu Jingchen glanced at Qin Ruyan with indifference. She was slightly lowering her head, so he could only see her tightly pursed lips.
His gaze shifted, skimming over her waist, his eyes tightening slightly.
So thin? Didn’t she eat?
He furrowed his brow, but quickly regained his composure.
“I’ll wait for you outside.”
He threw the words at Zhang Qiyao and turned to leave.
Zhang Qiyao was stunned. Wait, was her brother free today?
Qin Ruyan noticed the intentional glance Lu Jingchen gave her before leaving.
She frowned, hoping it was just her imagination.
Zhang Qiyao pulled Qin Ruyan to sit down on the bench.
“Yanyan, my brother is just like that, he’s cold and quiet, don’t mind him. He’s still with Ji Feng and the others, let’s eat slowly.”
Zhang Qiyao pulled her back down and they ate a little more.
After Lu Jingchen left the private room, he didn’t move. He took a cigarette out of his pocket.
He put it in his mouth, holding a lighter in his hand, but didn’t light it.
Lu Jingchen had just left when the food was served.
She picked up some food for Qin Ruyan.
“This is a local specialty, try it.”
Qin Ruyan nodded, a little absentminded.
She took a few bites of the food and put down her chopsticks.
“Don’t you like it?”
Zhang Qiyao noticed that she hadn’t eaten much.
Qin Ruyan shook her head, “No.”
She picked up her teacup and took a sip. “I’m not very hungry, you eat slowly, have more.”
Zhang Qiyao didn’t force her.
She ate slowly, occasionally chatting with Qin Ruyan.
After twenty minutes or so, Zhang Qiyao had finished her meal.
She picked up her teacup and took a sip.
Qin Ruyan had been playing on her phone for a while. Seeing that Zhang Qiyao was almost done, she put her phone away.
Zhang Qiyao smiled, “Ruyan, I’m almost finished. Should we go for a walk? Then I’ll take you back.”
Qin Ruyan didn’t want to refuse, so she nodded.
As they got up and walked out, Lu Jingchen stood up straight next to them.
Zhang Qiyao was startled by her brother’s actions.
“Brother, you weren’t waiting here the whole time, were you?”
Lu Jingchen nodded. He put his phone away and spoke in a calm voice.
“I’ll take you back.”
Zhang Qiyao was surprised. When did her brother become so nice to her?
Qin Ruyan subconsciously took a step back. She didn’t want to get involved in their sibling matters.
“Then, Yaoyao, let’s meet again another day.”
It was already dark, and she was worried that her uncle and aunt would worry if she was out too long.
Lu Jingchen clenched his hand, but didn’t speak.
It was Zhang Qiyao who spoke first, “Ruyan, get in my brother’s car and let him take you back.”
Zhang Qiyao felt embarrassed. She had invited Qin Ruyan out, and now her brother was going to take her home.
“It’s okay,” the sky was still bright. She planned to walk around and buy some gifts for her uncle and aunt if she found something suitable.
She had come back in a hurry this time.
“How can that be?” Zhang Qiyao felt guilty. “Ruyan, you’ve just arrived, and you’re not familiar with the place, especially at night.”
The two of them went back and forth for a few rounds.
“Miss Qin,” Lu Jingchen interrupted their conversation. “Since Miss Qin is here because she accompanied Yaoyao, it’s only right that Yaoyao takes you back. Come along.”
