Yuan Bao held Xiao Bao stiffly in his arms, Xiao Bao squirmed a bit and complained, “Uncle Yuan Bao, why are you just like my daddy?”
It reminded him of the first time when Su Yu had held him, making him quite uncomfortable. He knew that Mommy found something special in Daddy when she saw it.
“Little Young Master, I haven’t held a child before.” It was his first time carrying such a small child.
Su Yu watched Yuan Bao’s rigid posture and discomfort and felt satisfied. It seemed he wasn’t the only one.
“Uncle Yuan Bao, can you help me deliver a letter to my big brother?” Xiao Bao placed his small hand on Yuan Bao’s shoulder and asked with wide, dark eyes.
“Yes, we’ll use a messenger hawk to send it back, and then we’ll have Yuanfeng and the others help you deliver it, Young Master.”
Upon hearing this, Xiao Bao nodded happily. “Thank you, Uncle Yuan Bao. Can I see the messenger hawk? Is it an old hawk? Do big hawks eat meat?”
“Yes, they eat meat.” Yuan Bao held Xiao Bao with one hand while using the other to make a whistling sound, and soon, a hawk’s cry could be heard.
After a moment, Xiao Bao saw an eagle descending from the sky and landing on Yuan Bao’s upraised arm.
Seeing the eagle up close, Xiao Bao felt both fascinated and frightened. He sneakily glanced at the eagle, and to his surprise, the eagle also turned its head to look at him. This made Xiao Bao feel a bit embarrassed and slightly fearful.
“Are you scared?” Su Yu asked with a smile.
“I’m not very scared,” Xiao Bao replied, emphasizing just a tiny bit of fear.
Su Yu chuckled softly and walked over to gently pat the eagle’s back. “Lightning, this is my son.”
Lightning’s sharp eyes softened slightly as it turned its head to look at Xiao Bao, and suddenly, it leaned over and rubbed its head against little Bao’s arm.
The young master was just as good looking as his master.
Xiao Bao’s eyes instantly lit up, and he asked, “Daddy, can I touch it?”
“You should ask Lightning if it’s willing to let you touch it, it’s not up to me,” Su Yu replied. He wanted Xiao Bao to learn to ask for consent on his own.
“Lightning, can I touch you?” Xiao Bao asked, a bit scared but unable to resist his curiosity. Since Su Yu wasn’t going to help, he had to ask himself.
Lightning moved its head, as if agreeing to the request.
Xiao Bao cautiously extended his hand and after a while, finally touched Lightning’s head. Lightning nudged his head into Xiao Bao’s hand, and this made Xiao Bao’s eyes light up. “Daddy, can I take Lightning to eat something tasty?”
“Of course,” Su Yu nodded and allowed Xiao Bao to take Lightning for a treat, while he had something to discuss with Yuan Bao.
While Xiao Bao went to the kitchen to show off Lightning to Wang Jinhe, Su Yu turned his attention to Yuan Bao and said seriously, “Yuan Bao, when you help Xiao Bao deliver the letter, have Yuanfeng and the others investigate the Gu family. I don’t want them to harm Xiao Bao.”
“Understood, Young Master.”
“Go ahead.”
Yuan Bao went to write the letter to inform Yuanfeng and others of the investigation, while Xiao Bao was busy showing off Lightning.
“Mommy, give me some meat,” Xiao Bao said as soon as he entered the kitchen.
Wang Jinhe was about to ask if Xiao Bao was hungry when he saw Xiao Bao holding an unexpected guest.
Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be an eagle?
“Xiao Bao, where did you get this?” Where did this little guy get this eagle?
“It’s Daddy’s, Uncle Yuan Bao said it’s used for delivering letters. I’m here to feed it meat. Mommy, its name is Lightning, doesn’t it sound nice?”
“Yes, it sounds nice.” At least it’s much better than Big Flower and Little Flower.
Why didn’t he inherit this aspect from his dad?
Wang Jinhe went to the side, cut some meat for Lightning, and placed it on the table. “Alright, go feed Lightning now,” he said, watching Xiao Bao indulgently.
Xiao Bao placed Lightning on the table and fed it meat using chopsticks.
After eating the meat with big bites, Xiao Bao went to give Lightning some water. “Lightning, isn’t our water at home delicious?” It was sweet and tasty.
Wang Jinhe’s actions paused for a moment, then he looked at Xiao Bao, reached out to pinch his small face, and said with a hint of a wry smile, “You little guy, isn’t all water the same?”
“It’s not the same; our water is delicious. Lightning likes it, and even Big Flower and Little Flower do. Mommy, isn’t it true?” Not to mention Big baa baa and the others, they like it a lot too.
Looking at Xiao Bao’s confident expression, Wang Jinhe was momentarily at a loss for words. He hadn’t expected animals to have such sensitive taste buds, and even Xiao Bao did.
After drinking from the Spirit Spring Water, she felt that Big Flower and the others were becoming smarter. She wondered if Lightning would also become smarter from drinking water regularly.
After eating its fill, Yuan Bao came in.
“Little Master, Lightning is about to deliver a letter now,” Yuan Bao said seriously, looking at Xiao Bao.
Xiao Bao was hesitant when he heard that Lightning was going to deliver a letter. “Daddy…”
“In a few days, Lightning will be back, and when he has offspring, shall we give one to Xiao Bao?” Su Yu consoled Xiao Bao.
Xiao Bao’s eyes lit up, and he replied, “Can we give one to my brother?”
Su Yu looked at his son with a twitching corner of his mouth. “You little rascal, you take away anything good from your daddy.”
Wang Jinhe also observed Xiao Bao, hoping that his family wouldn’t resort to underhanded tricks.
“Can I, please?” Xiao Bao pleaded, tugging at Su Yu.
“You can.”
“Thank you, Daddy.” Once he received a definite answer, Xiao Bao was finally happy and stopped pestering Yuan Bao and allowed him take Lightning away.
However, after the letter was sent, Xiao Bao pestered Yuan Bao about Lightning’s offspring.
Wang Jinhe leaned against the stove, expressing her concerns. “Xiao Bao is fixated on Xiao Zhi. I’m not concerned about Xiao Zhi; it’s the Gu family…”
She was worried about the people from the Gu family rather than Zhang Zhilin.
“I’ve asked Yuan Bao to tell Yuanfeng and the others to investigate and check if Xiao Bao’s letter ended up in Zhang Zhilin’s hands.” He had no intention of letting Xiao Bao suffer any injustice while he was there.
Wang Jinhe shrugged. “I hope I’m overthinking it.”
“What do you mean?” Su Yu looked at Wang Jinhe with a puzzled expression.
“Xiao Zhi’s paternal grandfather has visited our house twice. The first time was fine, but the second time, he saw Xiao Zhi playing happily with Xiao Bao, along with Big Flower, Big Baa Baa, and the others. At that time, he seemed somewhat dissatisfied. I don’t know if it was dissatisfaction with Xiao Bao or with Xiao Zhi. Afterward, they left only one letter and returned to the capital.” Wang Jinhe explained.
Su Yu’s expression darkened slightly. If that was the case, Zhang Zhilin being suddenly brought back to the capital seemed more understandable.
“If your observation is correct, it’s possible that Elder Gu feels that Zhang Zhilin will be too focused on playing with Xiao Bao and not studying,” Su Yu speculated after giving it some thought.
