Chapter 40: Getting the Marriage License 4

After Qin Ruyan finished speaking, Shen Meng didn’t say anything more.

She didn’t know how the conversation went between Lu Jingchen and her uncle. She didn’t dare tell her aunt about some things, mainly because if she told her aunt that they were coming back to get the household registration book to get the marriage license today, it would be very awkward if Lu Jingchen didn’t get the household registration book from her uncle.

Half an hour later, Qin Chaoyang and Lu Jingchen walked out one after the other.

Qin Ruyan turned her head and saw Lu Jingchen holding a household registration book in his hand, looking at her with a happy expression.

She was a little surprised. Did she get her uncle to agree so easily?

Qin Chaoyang walked downstairs and stood in front of Qin Ruyan.

“Don’t forget to come back and see your uncle even after you’re married. This will always be your home.” He took out a card from his pocket and placed it in her hand.

“This is the dowry your uncle prepared for you, Ruyan. Besides mine, your parents’ share will be transferred to your name after you get your marriage license.”

Qin Chaoyang’s nose was a little sour. She was getting married so soon after coming back. He turned to look at Lu Jingchen, “Treat her well. If you make her unhappy, I will find you even if it means losing everything.”

Lu Jingchen was neither arrogant nor servile, and he spoke humbly, “Uncle, don’t worry, that won’t happen.”

Qin Chaoyang nodded and waved to them.

“Let’s go, we can still make it to the marriage registration office today.”

Lu Jingchen and Qin Ruyan bid farewell to them and walked out.

In the living room, Shen Meng didn’t know what was going on in Qin Chaoyang’s mind. She only spoke after they left.

“You’re just going to let Ruyan marry him so easily? Isn’t Lu Jingchen the one you said had deep scheming, and you told Ruyan to stay away from him?”

Qin Chaoyang patted her back reassuringly, “What are you in a hurry for? Can I push Ruyan into a fire pit? Lu Jingchen told me some things, and after I considered them, I realized that he is indeed the only one in China who has the ability to protect Ruyan.”

Forty minutes earlier, upstairs in the study.

Qin Chaoyang went in first. He was a bit angry. He had just told Qin Ruyan to stay away from Lu Jingchen, but not only did his niece not listen, she brought him home and said he was her boyfriend.

Lu Jingchen knew that this was his first time visiting, so Qin Chaoyang would naturally be uncomfortable. He picked up the teapot on the table and poured a cup of hot tea for Qin Chaoyang.

“Uncle, please have some tea first. I’ll tell you about me and Yan’er slowly.”

Qin Chaoyang took the teacup and took a couple of sips.

Only then did Lu Jingchen begin to speak. Of course, he skipped the part where he ran to Qin’s house and kissed Qin Ruyan. He was afraid that if he mentioned it, he wouldn’t even finish speaking before Qin Chaoyang kicked him out.

After he finished speaking, Qin Chaoyang spoke in a slightly dazed voice.

“You mean, she’s been secretly investigating the death of her parents?”

Lu Jingchen nodded and explained.

“I know that you haven’t given up on investigating this matter for all these years, but the incident eight years ago was really confusing. The other people who were in the same lab as Professor Qin and his wife at the time all moved abroad with their families. The internet wasn’t as developed as it is now back then, so some information was very inaccessible.”

When he learned that Qin Ruyan suspected the reason for her parents’ death, Lu Jingchen first investigated Qin Chaoyang.

After all, the biggest beneficiary after Qin Zheng and his wife died unexpectedly was Qin Chaoyang’s family.

Fortunately, after his investigation, he found that Qin Chaoyang’s family had nothing to do with the matter. Otherwise, he didn’t know how Qin Ruyan would face the hurt of her blood relatives.

His sweetheart seemed to have many little secrets.

Qin Chaoyang stood there, speechless for a long time before speaking.

“I just want to ask you one thing. Are you with Ruyan because you truly love her, or is it a deal?”

Lu Jingchen only replied with one sentence.

“The Lu family has an ancient tradition. Lu family children should be loyal and devoted, especially the head of the Lu family. If they abandon their wives and children, they will be expelled from the family tree and all their property and rights will be revoked.”

Qin Chaoyang took a moment to digest this before realizing what he meant. He couldn’t help but twitch his lips.

Couldn’t he just say it wasn’t a fling? That he genuinely liked his niece? Why all this roundabout talk?

He chuckled. “Alright, since you put it that way, I’ll give you the household registration book. Let’s get the license first. As for the wedding, you two can figure it out yourselves. But, I want to make it clear, if my Ruyan is wronged by you, I won’t let you off the hook.”

Qin Chaoyang took out the household registration book from his drawer and handed it to him.

Lu Jingchen took it, a smile playing on his lips.

“Don’t worry, that will never happen. I plan to arrange the wedding as soon as possible, but it depends on Ruyan’s wishes. She’s busy with her studio lately, and I don’t want to interfere with her freedom too much. I’ll fully support whatever she wants to do.”

Shen Meng, after hearing this, was also stunned for a moment. She grabbed Qin Chaoyang’s hand, a little nervous.

“Ruyan is investigating the past, will she be in danger? We’ve been secretly investigating for years, and we haven’t found anything.”

Qin Chaoyang patted her hand, reassuring her. “With Lu Jingchen around, he’s more than capable of protecting her. That’s one of the main reasons I agreed to their marriage.”

After all, in the capital, Lu Jingchen was practically untouchable. Anyone with any sense would stay away from him.

Shen Meng nodded, she agreed with that.

After leaving the Qin residence, they headed towards the Civil Affairs Bureau.

Lu Jingchen had called ahead and arranged for a special passage.

Qin Ruyan was still wearing the same cheongsam. He had someone prepare two white shirts beforehand.

When they arrived at the Civil Affairs Bureau for the photo, he took a white shirt and put it on Qin Ruyan. She furrowed her brow slightly, and Lu Jingchen explained.

“I had Chen Zhong send someone to get it from home. It’s one I’ve worn, not someone else’s.”

Qin Ruyan then just said “oh” and obediently put it on. Lu Jingchen smiled, perhaps she hadn’t even realized that she had already subconsciously accepted him.

The two looked good together, and the staff at the Civil Affairs Bureau were secretly watching them. Qin Ruyan was a bit nervous, and Lu Jingchen teased her for a while before she relaxed.

“Click,” the photo was captured.

The staff looked at the photo and smiled. It was rare to see such nice ID photos.

Although Qin Ruyan wasn’t smiling much, she was blushing from Lu Jingchen’s teasing, her eyes were a little watery, her lips were naturally red, and she had two small dimples at the corners of her mouth.

As for Lu Jingchen, besides the slight lift of his lips, his eyes also revealed a hint of amusement.

Qin Ruyan took the photo and chuckled, it did look quite well-matched?

She was then pulled by Lu Jingchen to register. Soon, two brand new bright red marriage certificates were issued.

Lu Jingchen took the two marriage certificates and put them in his pocket, then took her hand and got in the car.

He then took a necklace off his neck.

Qin Ruyan took a look and guessed what it was.

“When did you prepare this?” The two had been together these past few days, how could he have had time to order a ring?

Lu Jingchen glanced at her, a smile on his face.

“I prepared it eight years ago. I don’t know if the size fits. Madam, try it on first. If it doesn’t fit, we can go get it resized.”
