Chapter 104: Lost in Play?

Wang Jinhe looked at Su Yu with a furrowed brow and asked, “Are you suggesting that the people from the Gu family might think that Zhang Zhilin playing with Xiao Bao would lead him astray?”

Su Yu, although reluctant to admit it, acknowledged the reality. “Yes.”

Wang Jinhe was exasperated by the thought. “Do they even know that part of the reason Zhang Zhilin has improved is because of Xiao Bao, Big Baa Baa and the others? These people are quite interesting.”

Su Yu continued, “Given Zhang Zhilin’s current condition, his issues may still resurface. If this time the letter from Xiao Bao is delivered truthfully to Zhang Zhilin, that’s fine. But if it is withheld, concealed, or even discarded, Zhang Zhilin may very well return to his previous state. Their actions right now are no different from his aunt’s.”

Wang Jinhe struggled to voice her concerns. She had already helped once, but if it was because of them that Zhang Zhilin regressed, she wasn’t sure if she could continue helping him wholeheartedly.

“It all depends on their choices now. If the Gu family believes Zhang Zhilin has recovered and wants to distance him from Xiao Bao, then the child’s well-being might not be closely tied to us in the future,” Su Yu explained to Wang Jinhe.

“If they push Zhang Zhilin to this state again, it would be the third time, right?”

“Yes, and both times he slowly recovered because of Xiao Bao.”

Su Yu had a mischievous glint in his eyes. “If that’s the case, they should be careful.”

“Why?”

“Old Master Gu is undoubtedly a capable person, but he’s very strict when teaching. He doesn’t see children playing as play but rather as squandering their potential. Maybe, in Old Master Gu’s mind, Xiao Bao is like a ‘helpless’ child.”

Wang Jinhe struggled to find words to describe or evaluate this person.

“What do you think? At such a young age, this is the time to play, especially for someone like Zhang Zhilin. Do they intend to treat the child like livestock to be used?” She protested.

“Let me tell you, if you ever treat Xiao Bao like that, we’ll have unfinished business,” Wang Jinhe warned.

“What are you thinking? With the money I have now, it’s enough to provide Xiao Bao with a lifetime of food, drink, and fun. My guidance for Xiao Bao is merely to equip him with essential skills he must learn, such as martial arts and literacy. These are indispensable. If he aspires to become an official, with my elder brother’s connections, he’ll have a way. If he’s interested in business, we’ll still have our business to manage. I have no rigid requirements for Xiao Bao’s future; I just want him to be happy. Our parenting methods are entirely the same.” Su Yu’s approach to raising Xiao Bao aligned perfectly with Wang Jinhe’s thoughts.

“Survival skills are necessary to learn, so he can protect the family estate when he grows up. As for what the child wants to do afterward, it’s his own choice. We, as parents, can only provide advice, but we shouldn’t interfere too much. Excessive interference isn’t beneficial for the child.”

“We think the same way.”

“After everything here is sorted out, we’ll travel together every year when I inspect the industry. We’ll take Xiao Bao with us to explore different places,” Su Yu arranged things well.

He understood that Wang Jinhe’s current goal was to develop her own business rather than traveling, so he didn’t insist. Once things were on the right track and their child had grown a bit, they could explore more. It would be beneficial for the child as well.

“Okay.”

“After today, we’ll find people to start building the estate. Once the estate is ready, we can go to the nearby area and hire some laborers,” Su Yu explained his plan to Wang Jinhe.

“Aren’t we just looking for laborers?” Wang Jinhe asked. “Buying people might be complicated, and it’s difficult to find suitable ones.”

“We need to find laborers, that’s correct, but we also need to buy some people. People we buy are essentially our own, which is different from laborers. Of course, their loyalty will be different.”

Wang Jinhe had little understanding of these matters and looked puzzled after hearing Su Yu’s explanation. “Su Yu, I don’t understand.”

“It’s okay. If you don’t understand, it’s enough that I do,” Su Yu reassured her. “I’ll go with you to make the purchases, and aside from that, we’ll also need maids and other servants.”

Wang Jinhe looked somewhat embarrassed and frowned. “Do we really need those? Considering our family’s situation, why would you bring in servants? What will people think?”

“These are things you need to get used to. When we return to the capital in the future, you’ll be dealing with even more people. It’s better to adapt now,” Su Yu said with a smile. He understood that Wang Jinhe wasn’t fond of these formalities, but there were certain necessities that couldn’t be omitted and might even increase.

“It’s quite troublesome.”

“Some inconvenience is necessary. However, if you don’t want to spend too much time in the capital in the future, we can always come back from the capital. It depends on what you want. For me, it’s all fine,” Su Yu said earnestly.

Wang Jinhe felt relieved when she heard that they didn’t have to go to the capital. “Is this for real?”

“Of course it’s real. I’ve already separated from the family. Whether we live in the capital or rebuild a house here is entirely up to us,” Su Yu said casually. He genuinely didn’t care about this matter.

“Is there something wrong with living in our current house?”

“Well, it’s not ideal. In the future, Jingyu will be getting married, right? If you continue living in your parents’ home, there won’t be any issues, but what about other people? Occasional visits are fine, but living together every day could lead to conflicts. It’s better if we buy land nearby and build a new house. This way, even if you want to go back home, you can simply walk over,” Su Yu explained. He didn’t want Wang Jinhe to live with her parents after they got married. It would be hard to save face.

“That seems to make sense.”

“It’s not just about making sense; it’s how it is. Plus, there’s another significant issue. It’s fine for us to live here before we’re married, but after marriage, if we continue living here, what will people say about me? You should consider this for my sake too, don’t you think?” Su Yu said earnestly, looking at Wang Jinhe.

Seeing Su Yu’s pitiful expression, Wang Jinhe couldn’t help but laugh.
