“I see you’ve said so much, but isn’t your own situation the most important right now?” Wang Jinhe teased.
“If your family had only you as a daughter, it would be acceptable for me to marry into your family, after all, I have an older brother, and there’s someone to inherit the family assets. But you also have Jingyu as your brother. You have a brother, so I definitely won’t marry into your family,” Su Yu stated directly, without any hidden intentions.
Seeing Su Yu like this, Wang Jinhe wasn’t upset but rather pleased. They should be like this – openly discussing everything instead of plotting against each other. She didn’t want to live in a calculating environment. Su Yu, seeing that Wang Jinhe was silent but smiling, started to worry, “Are you upset by what I said?”
“Why would I be upset? I’m happy that you’ve directly shared your thoughts with me. Moreover, it’s the right way to approach things. In the future, if something comes up, you can discuss it with me, and we’ll make decisions together. This will help us avoid many unnecessary conflicts. Just like my parents, my father shares everything with my mother, regardless of whether she can help or not. My mother knows what he’s up to, and even if someone tries to meddle, they can’t disrupt the relationship. Do you understand what I’m saying?” Wang Jinhe asked, looking at Su Yu.
Su Yu felt a bit exasperated, wondering if she thought he was an idiot. Could she not understand such clear words?
“I’m not stupid. How could I not understand? I also think it’s a good approach, just like you said, it can indeed help avoid many problems,” Su Yu nodded and said, “Don’t worry, in the future, if I have any issues, I’ll definitely tell you first.”
After speaking, Su Yu looked at Wang Jinhe and asked seriously, “So, can I buy land and build a house later? What kind of house do you want? A larger one or a smaller one?”
“Either is fine,” Wang Jinhe wasn’t particularly concerned about the specifics, as long as it provided shelter and they could live comfortably.
Su Yu sighed heavily and said helplessly, “Xiao He, you’re so easy to take care of. I can’t even spend money on you.”
“Isn’t the money you spent today enough?” It’s already around two million taels of silver, isn’t it? If people find out, they’d probably call you a spendthrift!
Su Yu shook his head firmly, “That doesn’t count.”
“So what does count?”
“It counts when I spend money on you and our son in the future. You have no requirements, and that makes it difficult for me to make choices. What if I don’t meet your expectations?”
Wang Jinhe realized that this guy was indeed a shrewd businessman. She couldn’t believe she couldn’t outsmart him.
“You’ve got quite a sharp tongue; I can’t believe I can’t argue with you.”
“That’s the way it should be.”
While chatting, the two of them cooked the meal, and it was ready in no time.
“Mom, Dad, it’s time to eat,” Su Yu went out to call the others.
Outside, the people set the table, and those responsible for serving brought the dishes.
Seeing Wang Jinhe, Rong Shi smiled and said, “Xiao He, you’ve been quite busy today, and we didn’t do anything to help.”
“Having you here is already wonderful, and there aren’t many people. I can handle this amount of food by myself.” She had prepared meals for hundreds of people in her past life, so this small gathering wasn’t much of a challenge.
“In that case, it’s great. You’ve been this way since moving, and now with the engagement, don’t forget to continue like this when you get married. We wouldn’t have any work to do,” Rong Shi said, chuckling.
Watching Su Yu and Wang Jinhe together, Rong Shi suddenly found them to be a delightful couple. With two fine children like these, what could be better?
“You two are indeed a perfect match. Being together isn’t easy, so in the future, cherish each other. Only by supporting one another will your life together get better and better.”
Su Yu nodded, “We understand, Aunt.”
After the dishes were served, Wang Dagui used the wine that Su Yu had gifted to entertain their guests.
When the wine was opened, the aroma filled the air, and everyone couldn’t help but salivate. Xie Kang couldn’t contain his excitement, “This wine smells amazing. Is this a fine vintage?”
The wine was indeed quite valuable. Wang Dagui was surprisingly generous to serve it to them.
Su Yu didn’t hide anything, saying, “Yes, it’s from the capital.” He sat by Wang Jinhe’s side and helped open a barrel of the wine.
Wang Dagui pulled Su Yu’s hand and said, “Why are you sitting with Xiao He? Come over here; let’s all drink together.”
Wang Jinhe added, “Have some food first before drinking; don’t drink on an empty stomach.”
“Alright,” Su Yu agreed.
Wang Jinhe was pleased to see Su Yu following his advice.
After releasing Su Yu to join the others for a drink, Wang Jinhe engaged in conversation with the village women.
Xiao Bao had finished his meal and went over to Su Yu. Su Yu reached out and lifted him into his lap, asking, “Xiao Bao, are you full?”
“I’m full.”
Seeing that Xiao Bao had eaten enough, Su Yu continued to enjoy his meal while occasionally giving him more of the food he liked.
Sitting in Su Yu’s lap, Xiao Bao eventually fell asleep.
Wang Dagui noticed Xiao Bao had fallen asleep and suggested, “Su Yu, Xiao Bao is asleep. Why don’t you take him back to his room?”
“Alright,” Su Yu agreed, and upon checking, he saw that Xiao Bao was indeed fast asleep. He gently held Xiao Bao and carried him, sleeping soundly, in his arms. “Uncle Kang, go ahead and enjoy your drinks. I’ll put Xiao Bao to bed.”
“Go on then.”
Watching Su Yu leave with Xiao Bao, Xie Kang couldn’t help but reflect, “The bond between Xiao Bao and Su Yu is truly heartwarming.”
Wang Dagui nodded with a smile. “Since Xiao Yu returned this time, Xiao Bao insists on sleeping with him every night. Otherwise, he’s not happy.”
Before, Xiao Bao used to sleep by himself. Now, if he doesn’t sleep with Su Yu, he’ll stay awake until late at night. After a couple of attempts, Su Yu couldn’t bear to see his son like that. So, every night, he sleeps together with his child. No matter what, Xiao Bao is just three years old—a child.
“Indeed, it’s quite good. Su Yu treats Xiao Bao well, without a doubt,” Xie Kang agreed.
The bond between Su Yu and Xiao Bao was evident in their actions and interactions, and it was heartwarming to see how much Su Yu cared for his son. Xiao Bao was only three years old, after all, and he was still just a child. Su Yu’s attentive and loving care was a source of comfort and security for the young boy.
“When it comes to pampering and protecting Xiao Bao, Su Yu treats him like a precious gem. The only time he’s serious is when he’s teaching Xiao Bao martial arts and academics. Otherwise, he’s not that strict,” Wang Dagui said with a smile.
People at the table nodded in agreement, saying, “That’s how a father should be.”
Over the years, Wang Jinhe and Xiao Bao had endured their fair share of hardships and injustices. Su Yu was now compensating for those difficult times.
When Su Yu stepped out, everyone had something to say or advice to give. Some even tried to test him, but Su Yu, the young master, didn’t seem to care at all.
