Su Yu raised an eyebrow at Luo Shi and answered in a disdainful tone, “I see you haven’t learned your lesson yet. Perhaps you need a more substantial reminder.”
While Luo Shi’s remarks were hurtful, Wang Jinhe kept her composure. She looked at her with a slight smile and replied, “It’s not for you to decide what makes a good match for me. My virtues and qualities are known to those who matter, and I am grateful to be chosen by someone who appreciates them.”
Su Yu observed Luo Shi’s bitter demeanor and coldly stated, “You seem to have some issues from our previous encounter. I suggest you refrain from making such comments.”
Even though Su Yu remained polite, his warning was clear, causing Luo Shi to bite her lip, unable to respond. On the other hand, Jiang Shi, feeling threatened, confronted Su Yu with a venomous glare. “What does she have that makes you treat her like this?”
Su Yu leaned in with a smirk, his eyes twinkling mischievously. “Let me tell you what she has—she has me. That’s all she needs.”
The onlookers couldn’t help but gasp, realizing that Su Yu’s devotion was undeniable.
Wang Jinhe was both moved and relieved by his words, as she understood that Su Yu’s love and support were the most important things to her.
With the situation defused, Su Yu, Wang Jinhe, and the rest of the wedding party continued the festivities, leaving the disgruntled onlookers behind.
“Jinhe’s qualities are known to me, and I don’t need any of you to worry or have an opinion,” Su Yu retorted directly.
Today, he didn’t want to engage in arguments or be harsh, but some people seemed to be persistently seeking trouble. He couldn’t understand why they were so intent on provoking him.
Wang Jinhe’s face lit up with a smile when she heard Su Yu’s protective words. She appreciated his defense but maintained her calm.
“Indeed,” she replied to Su Yu. “My value as a partner is clear to those who matter, and I am grateful to be chosen by someone who truly appreciates me.”
Su Yu observed Luo Shi’s bitter demeanor, maintaining his composure, and delivered a stern message. “I suggest you avoid making such comments in the future.”
Despite his polite tone, Su Yu’s warning was clear, leaving Luo Shi biting her lip without a response. In contrast, Jiang Shi, who felt threatened, couldn’t hold back her frustration. She locked eyes with Su Yu, her voice dripping with sarcasm, “What does she have that justifies such special treatment from you?”
Su Yu leaned in with a sly smile, his eyes glinting with mischief. “Let me tell you what she has — she has me. That’s all she needs.”
The onlookers were taken aback by Su Yu’s bold declaration, realizing the depth of his devotion. Wang Jinhe was both moved and reassured by his words, understanding that Su Yu’s love and support were the most valuable things she could have.
With the confrontation defused, Su Yu, Wang Jinhua, and the wedding party continued with the festivities, leaving behind the disgruntled onlookers who had sought to provoke them.
“Xiao He…”
“There’s no need to argue with them today. Some people are just filled with jealousy, and when they see us living well, they become envious. We know who we are and what we have, and that’s all that matters. As for the rest, these people have no right to interfere,” Wang Jinhe soothingly reassured Su Yu.
“You remember last year’s Chinese New Year when everyone had money to spend on delicious food and stylish clothes, except for them? Can you imagine how that felt for them?” Wang Jinhe asked with a smile, her tone gently contemplative.
Su Yu nodded, understanding the point Wang Jinhe was making. The envy and frustration of those who couldn’t match their good fortune was something he had witnessed before.
Today, it was no different. In the end, they were content with their love and prosperity, leaving the jealous onlookers to grumble in the shadows.
She had come to understand that some people couldn’t stand to see others doing well, so she decided to thrive even more and make those people watch helplessly with no recourse.
“But I’m not happy,” Su Yu frowned, his face not looking very pleasant.
“Are you unhappy with me? What’s bothering you today?” Wang Jinhe raised an eyebrow and asked.
Su Yu looked at Wang Jinhe, feeling somewhat helpless, “I didn’t mean it that way.”
“If you’re not happy, we can go back home,” Wang Jinhe said as he took Su Yu’s hand and led him inside. When they entered the house, Su Yu turned to look at Jiang Shi and Luo Shi.
The way he stared at them was like he was wishing them dead, and it made Jiang Shi anxious.
Once inside, Jiang Shi finally breathed a sigh of relief, “Do you think he’ll come to cause trouble for us?”
Luo Shi glanced at Jiang Shi and then walked away. She found Jiang Shi’s dismissive look rather infuriating. After all, she was just the mother of a scholar, so what was so special about her? However, Jiang Shi was indeed extraordinary because she had a scholar son. Most people wouldn’t dare to cross her, but there were exceptions like Su Yu, who paid her no mind and didn’t provide her with an opportunity.
As she looked around the room, she could still see the boxes filled with gifts. Regardless of her thoughts about Wang Jinhe, she couldn’t help feeling a bit envious at this moment.
How could someone like Su Yu, a good man, not be in her life?
Thinking of Su Yu, thinking of her own man, Jiang Shi curled her lips and then left.
Back at home, Xie Kang [1]A family friend who was introduced when they caugh wild boars, Xie Kui, and the others all looked at Su Yu. Xie Kang said, “Are you trying to scare us to death? So many things! It’s enough to last us for several lifetimes!”
Su Yu didn’t mind at all. “I still have plenty of things in the capital. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be just this much.”
They still had a long way to go before reaching the level of Ten Li Red Bridal Attire. Wang Jinhe didn’t want to give him to give anything at all, he even had to force her to accept this little gifts.
“Only this much? How much more do you want to give to Xiao He?” Xie Kang asked.
Su Yu replied seriously, “Ten Li Red Bridal Attire.”[2] This phrase is often used in the context of traditional Chinese culture and literature to describe a scene or moment of great beauty and grandeur.
Everyone stared at Su Yu in disbelief. To utter such words about giving Ten Li Red Bridal Attire was almost infuriating. They all wished they could hit someone right now and couldn’t help but feel envious. They looked at Su Yu in bewilderment.
“Xiao Yu, did you ever consider how others might feel when you were preparing all of this?” The village chief asked Su Yu seriously.
Su Yu furrowed her brows, looking puzzled. “Why would I need to consider others?”
The chief sighed and said, “Alright, forget it. You could say such a thing, after all.”
Xie Kui felt that they were completely ignored. This young man’s heart was solely focused on Xiao He.
On the other hand, Xiao Bao applauded enthusiastically, “Daddy is the best!”
Su Yu reached out and lifted Xiao Bao into his arms, a smile in his eyes. “Xiao Bao is such a good boy. Come, Daddy has prepared some nice things for you too.”
Wang Jinhe furrowed her brow and looked at Su Yu. “You’ve already prepared plenty of things for Xiao Bao. What more have you prepared for him?”
Su Yu chuckled, “Oh, just some stationery like brushes, ink, paper, and inkstone, but they are slightly better quality.”
Apart from these items, he really hadn’t prepared much else.
Wang Jinhe, however, looked at Su Yu skeptically. She couldn’t help but wonder what was going on.
Wang Jinhe playfully pinched Su Yu’s ear and said seriously, “Let me tell you, you’ve already given Little Bao plenty of things before. You don’t need to give him any more. Do you hear me?”
If it were books, she wouldn’t say anything, but they already had too many toys, and Xiao Bao only had two hands. He couldn’t play with all of them.
Su Yu smiled and nodded, “Alright.”
Seeing that he agreed so readily, Wang Jinhe allowed him to take Xiao Bao to inspect the items. When Xiao Bao saw the contents of the boxes, he turned to Su Yu and asked, “Daddy, will Mommy get angry if she sees all these things?”
“See, there are writing materials and books too. What’s left is for Xiao Bao to play with. We haven’t been playing with them all the time, right?” Su Yu whispered to Xiao Bao.
Xiao Bao tilted his head and looked at Su Yu. Daddy’s words seemed right, but there was something not quite right.
“Daddy, I think you’re tricking Mommy,” Xiao Bao said seriously, looking at the items in the boxes.
