Year 356 of Lancaster Kingdom, Month of Flowers. The Sixth King of Lancaster Kingdom, Gernika.
◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆
That was the content of the parchment scroll that I had received from the old man with a smoldering gaze, or in short, King Gernika. I wanted to think of this as some sort of cruel joke but I knew this was not a joke.
100.000?? Isn’t that a bit too little to manage an uncultivated land??
I had a lot of things I wanted to ask, like if 100.000 would be enough to manage a territory or not or whether the real reason why they ennoblement me was because I had successfully revived the king’s desolate head or whether they were being exaggerated about the ‘savage’ part but alas, my opponent was the king himself.
It would be best if I kept it low for now. Also, regarding that expensive looking sword…
【Sacred Sword Delmund : A sword made from a rare metal, mithril and bearing the name of the blacksmith Delumnd from the Gand Kingdom. Its attack power changes according to the user’s skill. There are legends of a bearer strong enough that they were able to split rocks with a single slash. Also known as the Growing Sword. Attack Power +33】
It was definitely an impressive sword, especially in the hand of a skilled individual but it seemed the me right now wouldn’t be able to use this sword to its proper potential.
My Hellfire Sword had attack power +25 status so the difference wasn’t that significant and if Delmun Sword couldn’t unleash fireball or any other projectile then Hellfire Sword would be the better option for me right now.
In shorts, I guess I will put this sacred sword on the shelf for now.
More importantly, it seemed they were planning a celebration party at Bavarian-sama’s banquet hall later. That party would be the perfect opportunity for me to showcase my true skills as a professional businessman.
Why? Because thinking that you would be able to live a carefree and enjoyable life just because you had become a noble was not realistic, given that you had to live within the society. Being a noble and enjoying a carefree life was nothing but a fleeting dream. The reality wasn’t that sweet. While humans had their good points, but they were also creatures who could easily be envious of others’ success and even would try to hold back others simply from jealousy or pettiness alone.
While being a noble might look good on paper but in reality it meant you had acquired a new boss, which was the king and your freedom was basically taken away from you. If I fall into the king’s disgrace, my head might be rolling on the ground.
Imagine if someone who desired for status and fame were to be envious of me and started slandering me in front of the king with the sole purpose of ruining my reputation, what would happen then? My life could be easily obliterated to the ground.
So it would be better to always act cautiously. I needed to plan my moves as if someone were jealous of me and wanted to poison or assassinate me.
This kind of behavior within humans had been documented throughout the history of Japan and the history of other countries. It would be naive of me to think that the humans in other world would have pure, tender hearts.
If someone was trying to poison me, I just needed to create a new poison and increase my poison resistance. Also, maybe I needed to change all of my tableware to silver..
“If I hadn’t met Yurina-san, I think I would probably run away and go back to living like a hermit…”
I sighed as I watched food after food being brought to the grand hall and arranged on a pristine white lace tablecloth.
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
T/N: Honestly when I read the parchment, I don’t see the benefit in being a noble for MC. He’s already rich and has a happy family with 1 fur baby and 1 human baby (Tanya). The king is just trying to use MC because the kingdom happens to have a ‘savage’ land 눈‸눈

The matter of someone new ruling the local town once the old lord dies was hanging undecided, was it? If not Heinrich, then someone else would likely try to subordinate Keigo by force. The best defense against nobles is to become a noble yourself.
