“Ye Caiping was hanging clothes in the yard, humming a song with a pleasant mood.
“Ye Shi, come out here!” A sharp child’s voice rang out.
Ye Caiping froze, turned around, and saw an eight or nine-year-old skinny boy standing at the door with an arrogant expression.
Li Gouwu?
Ye Caiping recognized him. He was Li Zhiyuan’s neighbor, and also Li Zhiyuan’s cousin’s son from two generations back.
What was he doing here?
Ye Caiping couldn’t be bothered and pretended not to hear.
“Hey, I’m talking to you!” Li Gouwu, irritated, yelled. The shabby good-for-nothing who was abandoned by his scholar uncle actually ignored him.
“Who is this bastard dog yelling here?” Ye Daquan walked out of the house and saw it was the dog boy. Frowning, he said, “Aren’t you that good-for-nothing from next door to Li Zhiyuan? What are you doing here?”
“I’m here to find Ye Shi.”
Li Gouwu, overshadowed by Ye Daquan’s tall figure, was initially a bit timid. But thinking that he was here on the orders of Scholar Uncle and Sister Jiaojiao, he immediately straightened his back and put on an arrogant expression.
Ye Daquan’s face darkened. Regardless of whether the boy was standing straight or not, he slapped him across the face:
“You uncouth little brat, who do you think you are calling Ye Shi?”
Li Gouwu was knocked to the ground by the slap, howling in pain.
Ye Caiping looked at him rolling on the ground and sneered coldly.
Although the original owner didn’t treat her natal family as people, she was completely submissive to her husband’s family.
Not only did she serve her husband and mother-in-law like a servant, but she also showed loyalty to anyone Li Zhiyuan cared about, treating them sincerely.
Li Gouwu had always been favored by Li Zhiyuan since childhood, and the original owner doted on him greatly.
Whenever there was anything left at home, it would always be given to Li Gouwu first, while her two daughters could only watch longingly.
A few days ago, he had fallen into the icy lake and nearly drowned. Even his parents had given up on him.
It was the original owner who kept him warm all night, and that was how he survived.
Now, he was the one calling out “Ye Shi,” as if he were willing to die for Li Jiaojiao.
“What are you doing here?” Ye Caiping said coldly.
Li Gouwu jumped up from the ground, wiped the mud off his face. “You think I want to come? Let me tell you, Uncle Xiucai asked for you.”
Why did he call him Uncle Xiucai instead of Uncle Zhiyuan? As if Li Zhiyuan were the only scholar in the world.
After saying this, Li Gouwu wore a proud expression, waiting to see Ye Caiping’s excitement and urgency. However, what he got instead was Ye Caiping’s look of disdain:
“What does he want me for? I don’t want to be involved with shit.”
Li Gouwu couldn’t believe it. He knew better than anyone how much Ye Shi cared for Uncle Zhiyuan.
He was momentarily confused, not understanding what was wrong with Ye Caiping, so he just completed his task of delivering the message: “Scholar Uncle said, to send over the jade you usually wear.”
Jade? Ye Caiping froze.
Li Gouwu noticed the change in her expression and quickly said, “Yes, where is it?”
“Get lost, what nonsense!” Ye Caiping snapped.
Li Gouwu choked and was about to speak, but Ye Daquan had already stepped forward, cracking his knuckles. Li Gouwu, scared, turned and ran away.
“That little bastard, lucky he runs fast, or I would have broken his dog legs!” Ye Daquan yelled at his retreating figure.
Ye Caiping touched the jade pendant around her neck, the corner of her mouth curling into a cold smile.
The last time she saw Li Jiaojiao in town, she had already sensed it.
Li Jiaojiao had set her eyes on her jade pendant! No, it should be said that she was after her space!
What a pity. The space had already acknowledged her as its master, merging with her soul. Now, the jade pendant was nothing but an empty shell.
But even so, this jade pendant couldn’t be given to her.
Who knows if one day the main heroine might suddenly trigger something.
However, Li Jiaojiao’s personality was extremely obsessive. Once she decided to do something, she would definitely do it. Whatever she wanted, she would get.
Her approach was all about indulging her desires, doing whatever she pleased without restraint.
She had to be prepared.
…
Li Gouwu returned to the Li family and immediately spilled everything about Qinghe Village.
Li Jiaojiao and her brother exchanged a glance, full of confusion.
Li Zhiyuan’s face was full of disbelief. “Impossible, that Ye Shi…”
Usually, when he ordered Ye Shi to kneel, she would kneel, and when he ordered her to stand, she would stand.
As long as he gave her a displeased look, she would become anxious and obediently try to please him.
Now, he had even sent someone to ask her for the jade, and she actually dared not to give it?
Li Jiaojiao frowned slightly. “I should go myself. Spending one or two hundred wen should be enough to buy it.”
“No way.” Li Zhiyuan thought for a moment, then snorted. “Well, well, Ye Shi, you’ve actually gotten smarter.”
“She doesn’t want to give the jade to Gouwu, she just wants me to go to her personally. Hmph, is she worthy of this? She actually expects me to personally visit her!”
Li Jiaojiao was anxious. “But…”
“Jiaojiao, don’t worry. Just let her cool off for a few days. Then, she’ll be desperate and will come running, begging me to take it.”
Li Jiaojiao thought about it and agreed. Indeed, Ye Shi was a shameless wicked woman, she shouldn’t be given too much face.
As long as her father was involved, within a few days, they could get the jade.
“Ah, it hurts so much!” Gouwu suddenly rolled to the ground.
“Gouwu, what happened?” Li Jiaojiao jumped in shock.
“Just now, in Qinghe Village, that bitch’s older brother punched me.”
Li Jiaojiao and the others immediately surrounded him, asking all sorts of questions. “Where does it hurt?”
“This hurts! That hurts too! And this! Sister Jiaojiao, hurry and blow on it for me.” Gouwu rolled on the ground, acting cute and begging.
“I see you’re just fine, you just want to trick me into blowing on it.”
Li Jiaojiao was both heartbroken and annoyed, causing a ruckus that made everyone in the room laugh.
…
The next day, they had to set up a stall in the county city, and the Ye family was quite nervous.
In the evening, while Ye Caiping was soaking the dried vegetables, Yan Fang asked, “How many barrels should we make for the county city?”
Since it was their first time setting up a stall, Yan Fang was a bit worried. Back in the small town, they had only made one barrel as a test.
Ye Caiping thought for a moment, “There are more people in the county city. We can take a risk and make three barrels!”
Yan Fang quickly got to work, soaking the dried vegetables.
The next day, at four in the morning…
“Three large barrels of spicy hot soup were loaded onto the cart, along with double the amount of tables, stools, and bowls.
Because it was too heavy, Ye Caiping and the others couldn’t sit on the cart. They had to walk alongside the ox cart as they headed out.
When they arrived at the small town, they unloaded the three barrels of soup, and Ye Caiping, Ye Daquan, and Huan’er sat on the ox cart, heading towards the county city.
The stall in Dashu Town was left to Yan Fang, Ye Erquan, and Ye Jin’er.
They weren’t worried about a lack of manpower. Previously, there were four people, but once they got used to it, one person was actually quite unnecessary.
Now, three people were just enough.”
