Three Years of Marriage: Even a Military Union Must End in Divorce Chapter 21

Chapter 21: Why Does My Daughter-in-Law Make Everything Smell So Good!

The previous night, Jiang Ning went to bed early and woke up at the crack of dawn the next morning.

This time, when she went to the bathroom, she didn’t see Shen Mo taking a shower, which was a bit disappointing.

Returning to her room, she pulled open the curtains. Outside, she could still hear the loud chorus of crickets and grasshoppers.

A gentle breeze brushed against her face, a gift from nature.

As dawn broke, Jiang Ning saw a faint figure in the courtyard.

The fresh air chased away the last remnants of her sleepiness.

Shen Mo stood in the open space of the courtyard, his upper body bare, revealing sexy and firm abs.

Jiang Ning stared intently at the man in the courtyard, holding a large stone while doing squats.

He’s really disciplined, getting up early in the morning to exercise.

Jiang Ning couldn’t help but lean on the windowsill to admire him. They were still a couple, after all. What’s wrong with looking at his abs?

She wasn’t a person with feudal thoughts, and there was nothing wrong with the intimate things between a husband and wife.

As she thought about it, a flush of heat appeared on Jiang Ning’s face.

Oh dear, what am I thinking about?

Shen Mo, on the other hand, knew she was watching the moment Jiang Ning opened the window. His palms, holding the stone, broke out in a slight sweat, but it didn’t hinder his squats.

After some harmonious images inexplicably appeared in her mind, Jiang Ning’s face grew hotter the longer she watched. Feeling that something big might happen if she continued, she immediately turned around and ran to the kitchen.

Yesterday, Shen Mo brought back a large piece of pork belly, and Jiang Ning had deliberately saved some to make steamed buns. She chopped the meat, which had a good mix of fat and lean, into mince and mixed it with chopped green onion, ginger, and garlic. Then, she stir-fried it with oil and seasonings to make a meat filling.

Taking out the dough she had prepared the night before, she kneaded it vigorously to expel the air, making it smooth and elastic. After rolling it into a long strip and dividing it into equal portions, she was ready to make the buns.

After making about ten buns, she had used up all the meat filling. She kneaded some more dough and added sugar to make sweet steamed buns.

Jiang Ning enjoyed the feeling of being busy in the kitchen, which was completely different from facing cold instruments and reagents in the lab.

Jiang Ning suddenly found herself enjoying this slow-paced life.

As she was busy, she felt someone walk in behind her. Without even turning around, she knew who it was and gave her instructions without any hesitation, “Shen Mo, add another handful of firewood to the stove.”

Shen Mo obediently sat down in front of the stove and added the firewood.

From time to time, he glanced up at the busy figure. He had seen many people cook, but none of them looked as graceful as his wife, even when she was busy.

His wife was truly beautiful.

He knew that cooking was quite tiring, so he had never intended for his wife to cook often. He even had the idea of going to the military canteen to learn cooking skills from the chefs.

But it seemed that his wife actually enjoyed cooking.

The sky, which had been slightly bright and somewhat dim earlier, gradually brightened as the rising morning light illuminated the day. A beam of light reflected through the bright tiles into the room, shining on the girl inside.

Jiang Ning placed the buns in the steamer and started boiling porridge on the other stove. Seeing that both pots were operating smoothly, she patted the flour off her fingertips and turned around to see Shen Mo squatting in front of the stove.

The man had just finished exercising when she called him to start the fire. He was still bare-chested, and sweat stains on his forehead rolled down his cheeks, all the way to his sharp jawline.

Jiang Ning thought that was the end of it, but suddenly, Shen Mo lifted his chin. The drop of sweat traveled down his jawline, reaching his slightly protruding Adam’s apple, and to make matters worse, he swallowed.

Jiang Ning quickly averted her gaze. Did it feel like Shen Mo was tempting her? But it was perfectly normal to exercise early in the morning and to sweat!

The water in the pot started boiling, and steam began to rise. As the kitchen gradually heated up, Jiang Ning also started to feel warm.

Shen Mo filled the stove with more firewood and then stood up.

The kitchen wasn’t very spacious, and with Shen Mo standing, it felt even more cramped.

“The buns will be ready soon. You, go take a shower and then come out to eat,” Jiang Ning, feeling flustered, reached out to push Shen Mo in the chaos.

She touched something scorching hot, causing her to quickly pull her hand back with a light exclamation, “So hot.”

Hearing her, Shen Mo explained, “My body temperature is higher than normal.”

Jiang Ning urged him, “Go, go take a shower.”

Shen Mo went to take a shower.

Shen Mo took the water ladle and scooped cold water from the bucket, pouring it over his head one spoonful at a time, hoping to quickly cool the heat welling up in his abdomen.

It was said that men bathed quickly, finishing in just a few minutes. However, by the time the buns were steamed, Shen Mo was still drying his hair as he emerged from the washroom.

Jiang Ning silently gave him a label of being clean, as she disliked men who were covered in sweat and smelled bad.

But just now, when Shen Mo was adding firewood and covered in sweat, she didn’t find him smelly at all.

Lifting the lid, the aroma of the buns filled the air. As soon as Shen Mo stepped out, he was greeted by the enticing scent.

He was momentarily stunned.

So fragrant.

Why does everything my wife makes smell so good!

Shen Mo walked into the kitchen and saw Jiang Ning using chopsticks to place the buns into a bowl one by one.

Jiang Ning sensed something and looked up to see the man’s eyes fixed on the buns in the pot, his eyes sparkling as if he was about to drool.

With her phoenix eyes shimmering like autumn water, Jiang Ning suddenly had the urge to tease him.

“You’re drooling,” Jiang Ning said playfully.

Sure enough, Shen Mo instinctively wiped his mouth.

“Hahaha…” Jiang Ning couldn’t help but laugh out loud, “I’m just teasing you.”

Shen Mo realized he had been tricked by his wife.

In reality, Shen Mo’s face was naturally stern, and his temper wasn’t the best. When he furrowed his brows, the soldiers under his command would walk past him with their tails between their legs, not daring to joke around in front of him.

In front of Jiang Ning, he always tried to control his temper, but there was still a sense of distance between them.

Now, it finally felt a bit more like they were a real couple.

His wife wasn’t afraid of him at all.

He was very pleased.

Jiang Ning was in a good mood. Having someone appreciate her cooking was the greatest compliment for a chef. She picked up a steamed bun, blew on it to cool it down, and then handed it to Shen Mo, “Try it, is it delicious?”

Seeing the bun handed to his mouth, Shen Mo was momentarily stunned. No one had ever fed him before.

Eager to get his opinion, Jiang Ning urged, “Quick, try it. How does it taste?”

Following her instructions, Shen Mo took a bite, sinking his teeth into half the bun. The aroma filled his mouth, and his eyes lit up.

“Delicious!” he exclaimed. After a brief pause, as if feeling that the two-word compliment was too vague, he added, “The flavor lingers in the mouth, and it’s incredibly tasty. If you opened a shop, many people would rush to buy them!”

Jiang Ning was already satisfied with the initial compliment, but she didn’t expect the additional praise.

Happily, she ladled a bowl of porridge and handed it to Shen Mo, “Thank you for the compliment. But I have no intention of opening a steamed bun shop. It’s too tiring.”

Shen Mo took the porridge and also grabbed the bun she had picked up, “Even if you wanted to, you shouldn’t. It’s too exhausting.”

Anything related to the food industry was tiring. His wife was delicate and slender, and he didn’t want her to be so worn out.
