Chapter 74: Confusion & Did Mr. Lu Also Spill the Beans?
Cheng Yubai opened the door for her, and Qin Ruyan went out.
Behind her, he couldn’t help but remind her again.
“Xiaoyan, sometimes you don’t have to keep everything bottled up inside.”
Qin Ruyan paused, but didn’t turn around. She waved her hand behind her and walked out.
Cheng Yubai watched her back and sighed helplessly. Because he knew her so well, he knew that once she made up her mind, it was hard to change it.
When Qin Ruyan walked out of the medical experiment building, the entire campus of Beijing University was deserted. After entering autumn, the leaves turned yellow and fell, and she felt a low pressure around her, making her even more irritable, ready to explode at any moment.
Lu Jingchen’s phone call came at this time. She took out her phone from her pocket and answered it.
“Where are you? I’ll come pick you up?” Earlier, he received her WeChat message saying that if he wasn’t busy tonight, he would go back to the old house for dinner. She said that his grandfather missed them both terribly and had been nagging for days about why they hadn’t gone back to see him. He thought about it and realized it had been a long time since they last went back, so he finished his work in the office and called her.
The phone receiver carried Lu Jingchen’s low and gentle voice, and Qin Ruyan’s initial mood seemed to ease slightly.
“Wait for me at the company, I’ll take a taxi there? I have something to do at Beijing University right now.”
Hearing this, Lu Jingchen frowned. He had seen Cheng Yubai last time, and although Qin Ruyan’s explanation was quite convincing, plus Qin Chaoyang and Qin Shi were also investigating this matter, he didn’t feel anything wrong at the time. But after thinking about it later, Cheng Yubai was involved, and Qin Shi didn’t know about Cheng Yubai’s involvement, so there must be something else going on.
He decided to investigate it himself later.
“It’s not that far from the old house, find a place to wait for me, I’ll come pick you up.”
Lu Jingchen thought for a moment, it would be faster if he went directly to pick her up.
Qin Ruyan didn’t argue with him, it wasn’t easy to hail a taxi right now. “Okay, I’ll find a milk tea shop to wait for you.”
They hung up the phone, and Qin Ruyan walked towards the school gate.
She wasn’t familiar with Beijing University, and she was even less familiar with the surrounding area. She opened the navigation and searched for a milk tea shop, which wasn’t far away, just a six or seven-minute walk. She sent the location of the milk tea shop to Lu Jingchen and walked outside.
Twenty minutes later, Lu Jingchen’s car stopped opposite the milk tea shop. Before he could call Qin Ruyan, she walked out of the milk tea shop, holding a cup of milk tea in one hand and a duckbill cap in the other.
She didn’t tie her hair today, it was casually draped over her shoulders. She was wearing a black and white checkered shirt, tucked into her pants, and a pair of jeans on the bottom, making her waist look thin and her legs look straight.
Lu Jingchen raised his eyebrows, watching her slowly walk over. He reached out and pushed open the passenger door, waiting for her to get in the car before fastening her seatbelt. His hand touched the milk tea cup, and Qin Ruyan glanced at him alertly.
“What are you doing?”
Lu Jingchen smiled, “I remember you’re about to have your period, checking if you’re drinking hot milk tea.”
Qin Ruyan made a sound of understanding, “I didn’t realize, Mr. Lu knows quite a lot?”
He withdrew his hand, grasped the steering wheel with both hands, his eyes fixed straight ahead, and lightly said, “Whether I know or not, you should have the most say, right?”
Qin Ruyan’s mind was filled with yellow paint the next second, she closed her eyes and shook off those things.
“I’m a little sleepy, I’ll sleep for a while, call me when you get there.”
Typical avoidance when she can’t argue, Lu Jingchen was quite used to her operation, and he nodded in good temper, then turned down the music volume.
“There’s a blanket in the back, you can use it if you’re cold.” He was driving, so he couldn’t turn around to help her get it.
Qin Ruyan hummed in response. She leaned back, took the blanket and covered herself, then closed her eyes to rest.
Lu Jingchen glanced at her while waiting for the red light.
She had been busy working on her studio drawings lately, staying up late almost every night, and she hadn’t gotten much sleep. He could see faint dark circles under her eyes.
He reached out and touched her face. It was a little cold, so he turned up the air conditioning in the car a bit. When the light turned green, he continued driving.
Forty minutes later, the car stopped at the Lu residence.
The phone on the mobile phone holder in front of Lu Jingchen lit up. He quickly pressed the decline button before the ringtone could sound.
He got out of the car quietly and pushed the driver’s door shut, not closing it all the way, afraid of waking her up with the sound.
Lu Jingchen walked a few steps to the side before calling back.
“What’s up?”
The person on the other end of the phone, Chengxu, had just gotten off the plane. He hadn’t seen Lu Jingchen in a long time, and he was surprised by his cold tone when he called. But there was something more important right now.
“I got some information. You know who the old man used to find out about the information he gave you?”
He sounded a bit smug, guessing that Lu Jingchen would be interested in this.
But Lu Jingchen’s reaction was unexpected. “Who?”
This wasn’t what Chengxu had expected. He was stuck for a few seconds before speaking. “It seems like someone from the International Criminal Detective Agency is involved.”
Lu Jingchen’s hand holding the phone tightened, and his voice also tightened.
“Are you sure?”
Since he retired a few years ago, the International Criminal Detective Agency hadn’t investigated many obscure cases. Their international reputation wasn’t as good as before. Could it be that they had recruited a new member with hacking skills that surpassed his?
Chengxu chuckled. “The old man said it himself. He even traced the IP address, but unfortunately, the final location was our base in H country. It was obviously intercepted and tampered with.”
Lu Jingchen hummed in response. He lowered his eyes, thinking for a while. He knew that the only people in the underworld who could evade his investigation were those from the International Criminal Detective Agency.
He was about to say something else when he noticed movement in the car. Qin Ruyan must have woken up. He sighed and hung up the phone.
“Just call me at the company tomorrow if you need anything. I’ll hang up now.”
He hung up the phone, walked to the passenger side, opened the door, reached out to hold her hand, and pulled her out.
“Have I been asleep for a long time? Why didn’t you wake me up?” She knew she had a bad temper when she woke up, but it wasn’t morning, and the location, time, and situation were all wrong.
Lu Jingchen reached out and touched the corner of her eyes. “You were sleeping so soundly, I couldn’t bear to wake you up. Besides, it’s still early, no rush.”
He didn’t like seeing the faint dark circles under her eyes. They hadn’t been intimate lately, so why was she still so tired? She was always drawing.
“I see your clothing studio is doing well. Do you need more staff? Do you need any designers? I can introduce you to one.”
Lu Jingchen thought of a designer at Lu Corporation who designed clothes for him. He thought he was good and recommended him to Qin Ruyan. He just didn’t want her to be so tired.
