The county magistrate nodded in agreement, “That’s not a problem.”
Upon hearing that she would be detained for such a long time, Luo Shi, despite her weakened state, stood up and pointed at Su Yu, hurling curses, “You all are a bunch of wolves in sheep’s clothing, you…”
The county magistrate grew impatient with her words, “Take her away.”
“Yes, sir.”
Luo Shi was dragged away by the bailiffs, continuing to curse the county magistrate as she left. Hearing her words, the county magistrate’s expression turned cold, indicating that she wouldn’t have an easy time ahead.
Wang Jinhe looked at the county magistrate gratefully and said, “Thank you for standing up for us.”
“You’re too polite; it’s what I should do,” the county magistrate replied with a smile.
After expressing their gratitude to the county magistrate, Su Yu pulled Wang Jinhe away. The county magistrate watched their retreating figures with surprise; he hadn’t expected that the prodigy from before had finally found someone he liked.
Wait, just now Luo Shi mentioned that Su Yu was a wild man. That means the father of Wang Jinhe’s child is…
Taking a deep breath, the county magistrate turned away. He knew nothing, heard nothing.
After leaving the county office, Wang Jinhe looked at Su Yu, who had a faint smile on his face, “The county magistrate seems to be a good person.”
“Indeed.”
“Oh, by the way, since we’re in the county town, let’s get some things together.” Wang Jinhe suddenly remembered that the roller should have been made a long time ago. Since they were in the county town today, they might as well bring it back together.
“What do you want to get?”
“I came up with a convenient thresher. I had the roller made at the blacksmith’s shop, and it’s time to pick it up. I haven’t gone there yet, and since we are here today and have some time, let’s go get it together,” Wang Jinhe said. She felt quite favorable towards the county magistrate, she planned to give him the thresher after testing its effectiveness.
“Oh? Is it something good?” Su Yu asked in surprise.
Wang Jinhe nodded, “Yes, it’s definitely something good.”
“What are your plans once it’s made?” Su Yu inquired.
“I’ll test its efficiency first. If it works well, I’ll let the county magistrate handle it. I quite like the county magistrate,” Wang Jinhe said with a smile.
Su Yu raised an eyebrow, looking at Wang Jinhe. “Haven’t you considered taking this invention to the capital city yourself? You could gain some benefits for yourself in the process.”
“If this invention really becomes a reality, it would be something beneficial for the country and the people. If you were to present it, you could gain quite a few benefits,” Su Yu said.
“It’s fine. I don’t want to expose myself too much. This way is also good,” Wang Jinhe shrugged nonchalantly.
“Alright, as long as you’re happy. But I have to say, your luck is quite good. This county magistrate and the prefect here are both decent people. When they report this to higher authorities, they will probably include your name. You’ll also benefit from it,” Su Yu said. He reached out and playfully tapped Wang Jinhe’s head, speaking indulgently.
Wang Jinhe looked surprised. “Is it really like that? If so, the county magistrate and the prefect are indeed commendable. But can they really gain benefits by doing this?”
“If we can solve all these issues, things will become much simpler. In the future, you can sell the seeds to the court at a low price,” Su Yu said.
“With that, our family can receive more support.”
“Xiao He, do you have any other plans?” Su Yu asked, guessing what Wang Jinhe might be thinking.
“I plan to experiment this year to see if I can increase crop yields. If it works, I intend to sell seeds to the court at a low price,” Wang Jinhe said seriously. “But the trouble now is that I don’t have enough paddy fields. I can’t plant more rice. I went to buy some before, but a family maliciously raised the price, so I didn’t buy. Other places are quite far away.”
“Distance isn’t a problem. When the time comes, we can build a village nearby. Plant vegetables and fruits inside and grow grains outside. That should work,” Su Yu suggested after giving it some thought.
Wang Jinhe’s eyes lit up. “You’re right, how could I forget about the village?”
After arriving at the blacksmith’s workshop, the owner hurried over, wearing a mournful expression. “Miss, we thought you didn’t want this anymore.”
“This is valuable; why wouldn’t I want it? It’s just that I’ve had some recent matters to attend to, and I forgot to come and collect it. I’m truly sorry, Uncle,” Wang Jinhe apologized quickly.
“It’s alright; you’ve come to collect it now, that’s what matters. Everyone has their own business to deal with,” the blacksmith waved his hand dismissively.
“It’s a total of one hundred wen. You paid fifty wen as a deposit; just pay the remaining fifty wen now,” the owner stated.
“How much do I owe you for those miscellaneous parts I asked you to make?” Wang Jinhe didn’t forget there were some smaller components, which took even more time.
“The truth is, these smaller parts you requested actually took more time and effort than the large roller. I can’t offer you a discount, so how about three hundred wen?” After giving it some thought, the owner made his offer.
He didn’t want to charge so much, but these parts were indeed time-consuming.
“Here’s three hundred and fifty wen. Count it.” Wang Jinhe didn’t think it was overly expensive and handed over the money directly.
The owner counted the amount and then smiled, “That’s correct, it’s the right amount.”
“That thing is ready for us to take.”
“Sure, feel free to come back if you need anything in the future.”
Watching the roller, Su Yu raised an eyebrow. He asked Yuan Xu and the others to help move the equipment out and also find a ox cart to transport it back.
Once they arrived home, Wang Dagui and Grandpa Wang came over to look. “Xiao He, is this the roller?”
Wang Jinhe nodded with a smile. “Yes.”
“Really? Let’s hurry and install it to see how it works.” They had already prepared all the wooden components for other parts of the machine; they were just waiting for the roller to arrive.
After assembling all the parts, Grandpa Wang stood in front and stepped on the pedals. As he increased the speed of his pedaling, the roller started to turn faster.
