Chapter 28 Lin Zhi’s entire being…
The graduation photos were developed the day before the holiday.
When Lu Liu brought the photos back to the classroom, Lin Zhi was packing his books, stacking them several dozen centimeters high on his desk and in his drawer. He was too lazy to move them back, thinking he might just sell them by weight to some person who somehow managed to get into the school to collect old books during graduation season. After all, once the college entrance exams were over, he wouldn’t need to look at them again.
During the last few days, the students in the class weren’t as focused on studying as they had been at the beginning of the term. They often gathered with friends to take photos around the school, and in the classroom, there was constant noise. There was a mix of excitement about the future and reluctance to part ways. Some of the girls even secretly wiped away tears during the final class of each subject when the teachers chatted casually.
After receiving the graduation photos, the classroom became even noisier, like a pot of boiling water.
Lin Zhi first glanced at his photos. After confirming that his image in all three photos looked fine, he nervously glanced at the classmate whose face was covered by Hao Hongda’s school uniform.
That face was completely hidden, and it looked exactly the same as in his previous life, so much so that Lin Zhi didn’t recognize who the “victim” was at first.
Just as he was about to look at the name labeled below the photo, Hao Hongda’s deskmate suddenly let out a strange cry, then grabbed Hao Hongda by the shoulders and shook him back and forth wildly, continuously shouting:
“Damn it, Hao Hongda!”
“Are you stupid?”
“Give me my face back!”
“Ahhhh!”
—
Hao Hongda, dizzy and confused, muttered incoherently as he tried to shift the blame: “It’s not my fault, Four Lin… I made it to one, just admit—”
“Cough, cough.” Lin Zhi pretended not to understand what he was saying and lowered his head, acting seriously as he looked at the photos.
In truth, it really wasn’t his fault. Maybe it was just destined to be this way—how else could one explain the photographer from the last life, who started the countdown from “three,” now starting from “one” this time?
It’s not like he misremembered… right?
“Eh?” Lin Zhi suddenly saw something else in the photo as he looked at it, “Class monitor?”
“Hmm?” Lu Liu turned his head.
“Why is everyone looking up,” Lin Zhi pointed to where Lu Liu’s head was in the photo, “But you’re looking down?”
Before he could hear Lu Liu’s reply, Lin Zhi was suddenly grabbed by the arm from behind.
The person probably didn’t control their strength, or maybe the action was too sudden. Lin Zhi wasn’t mentally prepared, and in any case, he was pulled back nearly 180 degrees, his body’s center of gravity shifting suddenly.
In that moment, Lin Zhi realized he might fall, so he instinctively reached out his other hand to grab the books on the desk to stabilize himself. However, since the books were stacked too high, not only did he fail to grab them, but he also pushed the stack of books over.
With this mishap, Lin Zhi lost his grip, and the possibility of falling turned into a certainty.
Amid the clattering sound of books hitting the floor, Lin Zhi’s whole body fell sideways into Lu Liu’s arms, causing Lu Liu to stumble back two steps. During this, Lu Liu’s foot tripped over the leg of the desk, and he finally ended up sitting on the floor in a very awkward position, with Lin Zhi still on top of him.
The classroom fell silent for a few seconds, and everyone turned to look at them. Hao Hongda, the “instigator,” had his mouth open in an “O” shape.
While Lin Zhi was lying on top of Lu Liu, he heard Lu Liu curse under his breath. This was the first time Lin Zhi had ever heard him curse.
It actually sounded pretty good…
Lin Zhi couldn’t help but glance at Lu Liu again, almost forgetting how inappropriate their current position was, until he noticed Lu Liu’s ears slowly turning red. Lin Zhi hastily pushed himself up from the ground.
“Are you guys okay?” Hao Hongda reached out to pull Lin Zhi.
“Do you think so?” Lin Zhi gritted his teeth. He was fine, but Lu Liu had probably taken a hard fall, especially since the curse words had slipped out of his mouth.
“Sorry,” Hao Hongda quickly apologized, “I only pulled lightly. I didn’t expect it to turn out like this.”
After Lin Zhi stood up, he bent down to grab Lu Liu’s arm and helped him up. He noticed Lu Liu’s ears were as red as if they were about to bleed. He said, “You really should apologize to the class monitor.”
Hao Hongda apologized repeatedly.
Finally, Lu Liu waved his hand to signal it was fine, and Hao Hongda shamefully returned to his seat, completely losing the attitude he had when he came to “settle the score” with Lin Zhi earlier.
“Are you really okay?” Lin Zhi asked with concern, hoping he hadn’t injured his coccyx.
“I’m fine.” Lu Liu squatted down to help Lin Zhi pick up the books that had fallen to the ground.
Lin Zhi adjusted the collar of his shirt, which had shifted to one side, and lowered his eyes to see that the redness in Lu Liu’s ears hadn’t faded yet. He wondered why it was still red after such a long time, even when he had fallen on top of Lu Liu, his ears didn’t turn red.
Wait, didn’t his ears turn red? Lin Zhi reached up to touch his own ear, and it felt quite hot.
After straightening his clothes, Lin Zhi also squatted down to pick up the books. A few of them had fallen open. His frequently used notebook was lying open on the floor, and when he reached to grab it, Lu Liu beat him to it and picked it up first.
Sometimes, being too considerate isn’t necessarily a good thing.
Every time Lu Liu picked up a book, he would dust it off, and the notebook was no exception. However, the last page of the notebook, which had been lying on the floor, was the one he turned to. On that page, three lines of words written with a fluorescent green highlighter caught his eye.
The color of the highlighter was so glaring that not only could Lu Liu not ignore it, but Lin Zhi, standing next to him, also noticed it immediately.
Lin Zhi’s mind went blank for a few seconds. When he came back to his senses, he scrambled to snatch the notebook from Lu Liu’s hands, stammering, “T-thank you.”
The redness in Lu Liu’s ears, which had not faded earlier, instantly drained away, leaving him pale. His eyesight was sharp, and his memory was good. Even if his eyesight were poor, or his memory weak, he wouldn’t be able to forget the words he had just seen.
【I have a boyfriend now】
It was Lin Zhi’s handwriting, and judging by Lin Zhi’s reaction, it wasn’t something he wrote casually.
And he wrote it three times in a row. How excited had he been when he wrote it?
When was this? Who was it? Was it Yao Wenjing?
Lu Liu suddenly felt a little tired. The last time he heard Yao Wenjing mention that Lin Zhi liked someone, he hadn’t been very comfortable with it, but he still felt that there was a chance for him. He had even planned to wait until the college entrance exams were over and…
But now, not only did he know that Lin Zhi liked boys too, but he also knew that Lin Zhi already had a boyfriend.
In the end, he never had the chance.
