Chapter 83 : You will go back to your hometown in a few days
On this side, Su Ranran and her husband were busy preparing for the typhoon, while on the other side, Wang Chunmei had been busy all day and finally prepared the meal. However, she waited and waited, but Zhang Xinrong didn’t come back.
The mother and daughter were hungry, staring at the dishes on the table, but didn’t dare to touch them.
The main reason was that Zhang Xiaohua didn’t dare, because Wang Chunmei had said that if she didn’t behave, she would be sent back to her hometown.
So even though she was so hungry she felt she might cramp, she didn’t dare to ask for food.
Time passed slowly, and they didn’t know how long it had been. It was almost dark when footsteps finally came from the door.
Wang Chunmei’s eyes lit up, and she quickly stood up to greet him.
“You’re back!”
Although her face was still timid and her voice too small to be clearly heard, anyone could see how bright her eyes were.
Zhang Xinrong nodded, didn’t say anything, and had no expression on his face.
But Wang Chunmei seemed used to this and served him rice herself.
She picked up the spoon and made him a bowl of thick rice porridge without a single piece of sweet potato in it.
Zhang Xinrong took it and buried his head in eating, not even looking at Wang Chunmei.
Wang Chunmei looked at the man eating with big mouthfuls, a satisfied smile on her face.
Zhang Xinrong’s face visibly became impatient.
Seeing this, Wang Chunmei didn’t dare to look at him anymore and made herself a bowl of thin porridge to eat.
And Zhang Xiaohua, who seemed to be invisible, didn’t dare to say a word. She quietly reached for her own bowl and went to make porridge silently.
When making the rice, she didn’t dare to scoop more. It was also a small bowl, with a few scattered grains of rice, and not many sweet potatoes in total.
Her mother had said that her father was training hard in the army and could have rice porridge if he wanted it. She, as a child, would be full after just a little. Although Zhang Xiaohua never really felt full, she wouldn’t dare to say no. She was afraid that if she made the adults unhappy, she would be sent back to her hometown.
The family of three ate in silence. Aside from the sound of slurping porridge, no one spoke. The atmosphere was awkward and heavy.
Zhang Xiaohua didn’t even dare to take an extra bite of the food.
Wang Chunmei was probably the only one who truly seemed happy at the table.
If she weren’t afraid that Zhang Xinrong would despise her, she would have wanted to scoop some food for him.
But her eagerness never earned a glance from the man.
After a silent meal, Wang Chunmei was about to clear the table when she heard Zhang Xinrong say, “You can go back in a few days.”
As soon as he finished speaking, there was a “clang”—the sound of a bowl falling on the table.
“You… what did you say?” Wang Chunmei trembled, her face filled with fear and terror.
Zhang Xinrong couldn’t help but frown at her appearance.
“I’ve bought the tickets. You can take Xiaohua back with you in a few days.”
Hearing this, Wang Chunmei seemed to suddenly snap out of it.
“No! I can’t go back! How could I go back?” She had finally escaped from her hometown, how could he send her back?
“Do you dislike my poor work? I can farm! No one is better than me at farming! I can grow a lot of sweet potatoes, you can’t send me away!”
As she spoke, she stepped forward and tried to grab his clothes, but Zhang Xinrong easily avoided her.
“If you don’t go back, what will happen to the family? Mom is old, and there are Da Wang and Er Wang…”
But before he finished speaking, he was interrupted by Wang Chunmei’s sharp voice!
“She’s fine! It hurts when she hits people! If you don’t believe it, look, these are the scars she left on me!”
Wang Chunmei seemed to have lost her mind. As she spoke, she pulled at her own clothes.
“Enough! Wang Chunmei, why are you crazy?” Zhang Xinrong’s face turned extremely ugly. “My mother is such a good person, how could she do such a thing?”
In Zhang Xinrong’s heart, his mother could not be more kind, so how could she have hit people?
“If you don’t believe it, then look, my body is full of scars left by her beatings.”
Wang Chunmei cried and laughed, her hands never stopping as she spoke. She looked like she was really losing her sanity.
“No need to say more. The ticket’s been bought. I’ll send you back in a few days.”
After saying this coldly, Zhang Xinrong didn’t look at the woman anymore and walked out of the door in large strides.
The mother and daughter were left behind, feeling as though the sky was about to fall.
The news of Zhang Xinrong’s family soon spread throughout the family compound.
The main reason was that Wang Chunmei was acting like she had gone mad, complaining to everyone she met.
And women, naturally, love gossip. Wang Chunmei hadn’t said much before, but everyone had been curious. Now that she took the initiative to talk about her hometown, how could they not listen?
After piecing the story together, people finally understood why Zhang Xinrong was so impatient with Wang Chunmei.
It turned out that the woman he had his eyes on wasn’t her. He had gone back to visit his relatives and saved Wang Chunmei when she fell into the water, and as a result, had to marry her and take her home. He had originally had a sweetheart but ended up marrying Wang Chunmei by mistake. How could he not resent it?
And as a country girl, Wang Chunmei was already tainted once she was saved by a man, she had lost her innocence. If she hadn’t married Zhang Xinrong, how could she have survived?
A pair of strangers had ended up married.
Perhaps understanding the man’s dilemma, Wang Chunmei had diligently managed the house and farm for all these years, even though Zhang Xinrong never gave her a good face.
But who knew that the mother-in-law wasn’t easy to get along with either? She scolded and beat them, never giving them food.
Seeing there was no way to live, the mother and daughter secretly ran away to the island.
Who could have imagined that Zhang Xinrong would drive them back so soon?
Wang Chunmei’s heart was full of bitterness! Not only did she vent her complaints, but she also wanted to take someone back to convince Zhang Xinrong to change his mind.
The unfortunate Su Ranran, after finally getting the results from her computer simulation, was about to go out to find Shen He when she was stopped by Wang Chunmei.
“Sister-in-law, it’s not that I don’t want to help you, but I have something urgent right now. Maybe you can ask someone else first?”
Su Ranran was so anxious at this moment that she just wanted to fly to the military camp immediately. How could she care about such trivial matters?
The computer data simulation results showed that this typhoon was at level 18!
This wasn’t the era when steel and concrete were everywhere, but rather a poor time when entire villages were filled with thatched houses.
She couldn’t even imagine what would be left of the island after the typhoon.
No wonder the Internet said it was a catastrophic typhoon.
There would be quite a few casualties!
Now, the typhoon was approaching soon. If they didn’t quickly prepare supplies and evacuate people, the consequences would be disastrous!
But how could Wang Chunmei listen to her advice at this moment?
She grabbed Su Ranran tightly with both hands, refusing to let go, no matter what Su Ranran said.
“I know your man is the deputy head of the group and can control Zhang Xinrong. Please, please help me, I can’t be sent back!”
