Back to the 1970s: Bringing Hundreds of Billions of Supplies to the Army Chapter 93

Chapter 93 : Not waiting for dad anymore?

Wang Chunmei listened to the caring words of her daughter and couldn’t help but think of the ungrateful person she had raised in her previous life.

Suppressing the bitterness in her heart, she smiled at Zhang Xiaohua and said, “No, Mom can do it alone.”

It turned out that everyone’s food was basically carried back by the men in their families, except for Wang Chunmei’s, and there was no sign of Zhang Xinrong.

In the end, she had to carry it by herself.

Zhang Aizhen had helped her carry another heavier bag of sweet potatoes.

The rest wasn’t very heavy, so she didn’t let Zhang Xiaohua carry it.

The military wives couldn’t help but silently complain about Zhang Xinrong in their hearts. He was really a piece of trash. Even if he didn’t like this wife, she was still the mother of his three children.

They really looked down on him for behaving this way.

Originally, the military wives thought Wang Chunmei was a little odd, but since she woke up from her coma, she never complained about her hardships. Instead, they sympathized with her.

Su Ranran also felt that Zhang Xinrong’s actions were utterly unacceptable.

She started feeling more sympathy for the mother and daughter.

“Sister-in-law, let me help you carry it,” Su Ranran said as she reached out to take the half bag of food from Wang Chunmei’s hands.

However, Wang Chunmei knew that Su Ranran was pregnant and that her husband was still recovering from a serious injury, so how could she trouble her?

She quickly avoided Su Ranran’s hand that was about to take her food.

“No, I can do it myself. We’ll be at the family compound soon.”

After a day, she gradually became familiar with these strange terms and finally spoke less hesitantly.

But as she avoided Su Ranran, she ended up standing next to Zhong Juhua.

Zhong Juhua was straightforward. Without waiting for Wang Chunmei to refuse, she reached out and took a bag of food from her.

“Hey Chunmei, you’re just too polite. Here, let me help you!”

After spending a night together, she no longer felt as distant from this poor woman.

Since the food had already been taken, Wang Chunmei couldn’t take it back forcefully, so she had to accept the kindness.

“Thank you, sister-in-law.”

Hearing this, Zhong Juhua smiled and said, “Let’s not call each other sister-in-law anymore, just call each other by name.”

Wang Chunmei pursed her lips, smiled, and followed suit, calling out, “Juhua, Ranran.”

This more easy-going attitude won Zhong Juhua’s favor even more.

Although Su Ranran still felt that Wang Chunmei was a bit inconsistent, her opinion of her had improved significantly.

Soon, the group returned to the family compound.

However, before they could enter, they were shocked by the sight before them.

The tile roof, which had always seemed sturdy, had been almost completely blown away. Broken and intact tiles littered the ground. The doors and windows were torn to pieces by the wind, and even Su Ranran’s reinforced doors and windows were not spared.

The fruit tree in the yard had lost all its leaves and was leaning to one side.

The fence in the yard was blown into a mess, and even the grass was torn into pieces.

Shen He was cleaning up the tiles inside the house. Seeing Su Ranran about to enter, he hurriedly stopped her.

“It’s dangerous inside. Wait outside for a moment.”

The tiles on the roof had been loosened by the wind and could fall and hit someone at any time.

Since she wasn’t allowed to go inside, Su Ranran had no choice but to tidy up the yard.

First, she straightened the crooked tree.

She wasn’t sure if it would sprout again, but Su Ranran decided not to water it in her space, fearing it would attract too much attention.

The yard was littered with items blown in from who knows where.

Su Ranran picked up the scattered debris and set it aside, then gathered the fallen tiles and stacked them in a corner of the yard.

Before the typhoon hit, she had placed the broom in the shower room. Perhaps because the shower room was small, everything inside remained intact and wasn’t blown away.

Su Ranran retrieved the broom and swept up the fallen leaves on the ground.

Meanwhile, Shen He had already gathered all the tiles. Without hesitation, he selected the undamaged tiles and began repairing the roof.

Su Ranran had just finished dumping the garbage outside. As soon as she stepped back inside, she saw Shen He climbing up the roof with a neat stack of tiles.

Su Ranran: …

“How did you manage to do that?”

Standing in the yard, Su Ranran looked up at his tall figure on the roof, questioning reality a little.

Noticing the amazement and admiration in her eyes, Shen He’s expression showed a hint of pride.

“It’s easy if you practice enough,” he replied.

In truth, the height was never a challenge for him. And now, after drinking the special water and training with body-quenching techniques, he felt even more at ease.

Su Ranran didn’t know what else to say except to admire him.

However, instead of letting him climb up and down repeatedly, she quickly fashioned a simple zipline to pass the tiles up to him.

Thus, the couple worked together to repair the house.

On the other side, Wang Chunmei and Zhang Xiaohua were also diligently cleaning up the damage caused by the typhoon.

As for the so-called “man of the house,” he was nowhere to be found. Since waking up yesterday, Wang Chunmei hadn’t seen him even once.

Thinking about having to spend her future with such a man, she felt a deep sense of unease. However, she knew from the lessons ingrained in her since childhood that a woman’s marriage was like a second life whether good or bad, there was no turning back.

Just like in her previous life, even though she despised that face, she still had to endure it. Since she couldn’t change her fate, she decided she should at least be kinder to herself.

Having been given a second chance, she didn’t want to live a life of self-neglect anymore. With great effort, Wang Chunmei and Zhang Xiaohua managed to clean up the house and kitchen.

At that moment, Zhang Xinrong, who had been missing for so long, finally appeared.

Wang Chunmei looked at him with an expressionless gaze.

He was tall, dark-skinned, and looked decent enough. But this was a man who had shown no love for his first wife.

Thinking of this, Wang Chunmei averted her eyes, no longer wanting to look at him.

Zhang Xinrong found it strange. Wang Chunmei, who used to hover around him constantly, was suddenly distant.

However, he didn’t dwell on it. Since she wasn’t complaining, he felt relieved.

Without sparing her another glance, Zhang Xinrong borrowed a ladder from the neighbors and started repairing the roof of their house.

Wang Chunmei paid him no attention. After finishing the kitchen cleanup, she began preparing a meal.

Using the original owner’s memories and with Zhang Xiaohua’s help, despite some clumsiness, she managed to cook a pot of sweet potato porridge.

Yesterday, before heading to the resettlement site, the original owner had packed up all their food, including some salted fish.

Wang Chunmei took out the salted fish, fried it in oil, and called Zhang Xiaohua over to eat.

Hearing this, Zhang Xiaohua’s eyes nearly popped out. Swallowing hard, she hesitated and asked, “Mom, shouldn’t we… shouldn’t we wait for Dad?”
