Fuming with anger, Wen Changming returned home with his wife and daughter, only to find Wen Nuan sitting calmly in the house, enjoying a bowl of egg noodles.
Seeing her relaxed posture, Wen Changming’s anger flared instantly.
“Wen Nuan!”
Wen Nuan glanced up at him, casually blowing on the noodles on her chopsticks, continuing to eat without the slightest sign of panic.
Wen Changming took a deep breath, trying to calm himself before asking.
“Wen Nuan, why didn’t you take your sister to handle the job handover this afternoon? Didn’t we agree on this? I already gave you everything you needed!”
Wen Nuan quickly finished the bowl of noodles. Ever since her rebirth, not only had her senses become sharper, but her appetite had also increased.
Even though she had just eaten, the moment she returned to the Wen household, hunger struck her. No matter what, she wouldn’t let her stomach go hungry, so she decided to cook herself a bowl of egg noodles.
However, she hadn’t even finished eating when this unpleasant person came back.
Placing her chopsticks on the table, Wen Nuan wiped her mouth and looked at the person with a sly smile.
“When did I ever agree to give my job to Wen Qing?”
The person paused at her words, staring blankly at her. They exchanged confused looks, both equally baffled.
“Heh, from the start, it’s been all talk from you two. I never gave my consent! To be honest, my job has already been sold off, so you can stop scheming for it!”
“What? Sold it? How could you sell it?”
Wen Qing couldn’t help but rush at her. Without a job, she would have to go to the countryside. This was something they had agreed on, so why was Wen Nuan changing her mind?
“Wen Nuan, you promised me! You took Father’s money, so you should give me the job. How could you sell it off without telling me?”
“The job is mine, and I can sell it if I want to. As for that thousand or so yuan, it was left to me by my mother. I’m entitled to it, and it has nothing to do with you!”
Wen Qing was so furious that she didn’t even care whether she could win in a fight. She charged at Wen Nuan, ready to get physical.
“Enough! Don’t make a scene!”
Wen Changming reached out to stop Wen Qing, loudly reprimanding her for her actions.
“Father!!”
Wen Qing’s eyes were filled with grievance, and tears fell uncontrollably. She really didn’t want to go to the countryside!
“Go to your room and calm down first. I’ll think of a way to handle the job situation for you.”
“Really?”
A glimmer of hope flashed in Wen Qing’s eyes.
“Of course. When has your father ever lied to you? Be good and go rest in your room for now.”
“Alright, I’ll listen to Father.”
With Wen Changming’s promise, Wen Qing finally felt at ease. She gave Wen Nuan a provocative glance and strutted off.
After sending Wen Qing away, Wen Changming turned his attention to Wen Nuan. His expression was a mix of emotions, but Wen Nuan paid no mind.
“If there’s nothing else, I’m going to rest. I’ve been walking around the department store all day; I’m really tired.”
“Since you’re tired, you should rest then.”
Wen Nuan gave a slight nod, barely acknowledging him, then ignored Tan Xiulian’s cold, piercing gaze as she walked directly to her small room.
“Changming! What should we do now? Wen Nuan… she…”
“Tonight, follow the plan.”
“But if Wen Nuan has already eaten, how are we supposed to put the drug in her food?”
“I’ll go buy a bottle of soda. If she drinks it willingly, then it’ll be easy for everyone. If she’s stubborn, then she’ll suffer a little tonight. As long as she doesn’t die, it’ll be fine.”
“Then it’s up to you.”
“Alright, go cook. Fry a couple more dishes; Liu the cripple should be coming over soon.”
“Alright!”
Back in her room, Wen Nuan pressed her ear against the door, listening clearly to the conversation between Wen Changming and Tan Xiulian.
After securing the door with a cabinet to ensure her safety, Wen Nuan entered the space again.
Relying solely on brute strength wouldn’t guarantee her safety; she also needed skills for self-defense. She rummaged through the bookshelf.
Eventually, Wen Nuan found a martial arts manual suitable for ordinary people—Yin Yang Taiji Quan (Yin-Yang Tai Chi Fist).
This martial art was a balanced combination of hardness and softness, and it was very easy to learn, especially for women.
Although time was limited and she couldn’t master it right away, she could still learn a few basic moves. Combined with her strength, even if something happened with Li Haiyang, she would be able to defend herself.
Time passed quickly as Wen Nuan committed all the moves from Yin Yang Taiji Quan to memory. Now, all she needed to do was practice and refine them continuously.
Knock knock…
Even though she was in the space, Wen Nuan could still clearly hear the knocking on her room door. A thought crossed her mind, and she instantly returned to her room.
“Xiao Nuan, Father bought some soda for you and Qingqing, come and drink it!”
Wen Changming had already brought the soda back. Wen Nuan wondered about the situation with Li Haiyang, though.
“I’m not drinking it, you guys go ahead.”
As she spoke, Wen Nuan quietly moved the cabinet away from the door. She knew that Wen Changming wouldn’t leave so easily.
“Xiao Nuan, you’re all grown up, and this is the first time Father has bought you soda. Do me a favor and try it!”
As expected, Wen Changming’s temperament was something Wen Nuan could never quite figure out.
Creek…
Wen Nuan opened the door and took the soda from Wen Changming’s hand.
“I’m tired today. After I drink the soda, I’ll go to sleep. Don’t come knocking on my door unless it’s necessary!”
“Alright, alright, I won’t knock, go ahead and sleep! Drink it and then rest.”
“Mhm.”
Wen Changming was naturally pleased that Wen Nuan was heading to bed quickly, especially after drinking the soda. The dose of drugs inside was enough to knock out an entire cow. He didn’t believe for a second that this girl wouldn’t fall for it!
After closing the door, Wen Nuan looked at the orange soda in her hand, a sarcastic smile spreading across her face.
Her biological father—what a real scumbag!
If it were possible, she truly wanted to dig his heart out and see what color it was.
She couldn’t understand it—she was his own daughter, so why was Wen Changming so heartless toward her?
The soda was poured out onto the floor, then placed in a hidden corner. Wen Nuan lay down on the bed, waiting for the night’s performance to unfold.
Meanwhile, not far from the Wen family’s home, at the Li family’s courtyard, Li Haiyang was hosting a few of his buddies for drinks.
Although he was busy coordinating the gathering, his mind was preoccupied with what was going to happen to Wen Nuan that evening. He hadn’t drunk much, despite the lively atmosphere.
The friends he invited were all heavy drinkers—each of them easily able to down a full bottle of liquor without issue.
“Come on, come on! It’s been so long since we’ve all gathered together. Tonight, we’re going to have a real blast!” Li Haiyang cheered.
“Yeah, yeah! Big thanks to Haiyang for organizing this. My wife’s been strict lately, so it’s been a while since I’ve had a drink.”
“Haha, not really. With that wife of yours, it’s a miracle if she lets you drink!”
“Shut up! You think you’re any better? Your pocket money for the whole month doesn’t even add up to a buck!”
“I’m just being considerate of my wife, something you wouldn’t understand!”
“Haha…”
