Three Years of Marriage: Even a Military Union Must End in Divorce Chapter 47

Chapter 47: Treatment

The young woman had quickly stopped the bleeding with a few swift needle pricks, and he instinctively trusted her.

Jiang Ning led them to the clinic. Only Old Master Huang was there; Huang Xiaodong had gone out again to who knows where.

Old Master Huang didn’t expect her to return so soon. When he saw the two men following her, and noticed the injury on the middle-aged man’s leg, his expression didn’t change at all.

Old Master Huang looked at Jiang Ning and asked, “Can it be treated?”

Jiang Ning nodded, “It can be treated.”

As she spoke, she rolled up her sleeves and gestured for the young man to help place the middle-aged man on the examination table.

Old Master Huang went to the medicine cabinet and retrieved several types of herbs. He began grinding them, and once they were finely ground, he handed them to Jiang Ning.

Jiang Ning poured the dark powdery substance into a bowl of water, stirred it evenly, and then handed it to the middle-aged man, saying, “Drink this.”

The young man stopped her, saying, “Commander, how can you just drink something like this?”

The middle-aged man gave the young man a look, signaling him to stay quiet. He then took the bowl of dark ‘soup’ from Jiang Ning and drank it all in one go.

He knew his own body well, and to his surprise, the pain in the wound gradually subsided, the effect comparable to that of an anesthetic.

Soon after, the middle-aged man lost consciousness.

Jiang Ning removed all the silver needles from his leg and then took out a willow leaf-shaped knife. In front of the two astonished men, she cut, treated, sutured, disinfected, and finally bandaged the wound.

Not long after she finished treating his leg, the middle-aged man woke up.

Jiang Ning didn’t leave; she waited until he was awake and then said, “Rest for half a month and avoid strenuous activities.”

She went to the medicine cabinet, took out some herbs, and ground them into an ointment. She divided the ointment into seven portions and handed it to the middle-aged man, saying, “Change the dressing every two days and apply it to the wound.”

The middle-aged man personally accepted the ointment and said, “Thank you, miss.”

Jiang Ning said, “That will be ten yuan.”

The middle-aged man glanced at the young man beside him, who immediately took out a large unity note and handed it to Jiang Ning.

“Miss, with such incredible skills, why aren’t you working at a military hospital?”

The middle-aged man was very curious about Jiang Ning. He had only seen highly skilled doctors who were much older, yet this young woman, who looked to be around twenty, was exceptionally proficient in medicine.

Given how remote this area was, there probably weren’t many patients to treat.

Such excellent medical skills should be used to treat severely injured soldiers in military hospitals. It seemed like a waste for her to be here.

“I don’t have a medical license, so I can’t work at a military hospital.”

She had even been turned down for positions at clinics and health centers, let alone a hospital.

The middle-aged man seemed genuinely unwilling to let such talent go to waste. “If you’re interested in working at a military hospital, I can help you with the medical license issue.”

Jiang Ning had overheard the young man addressing him by his military rank. If he said he could help, he probably could. After thinking it over, she shook her head and said, “Not for now. I’ve only just started working here, and it wouldn’t be good to change jobs so soon.”

The middle-aged man didn’t understand the term ‘change jobs,’ but he knew she was declining his offer.

Since she wasn’t interested, they couldn’t force her. “Alright, if you ever consider working at a military hospital, you can come find me at the nearby camp. My surname is Liang.”

In front of the soldiers, Jiang Ning nodded obediently, “Alright.”

The two men left, and Jiang Ning tidied up and headed home.

Because she had been treating the middle-aged man’s leg, it was almost dark when Jiang Ning left the clinic. She could barely make out the path ahead.

As she passed a lush grove, she heard some noises coming from within.

She frowned and quickened her pace to leave.

It seemed someone had spotted her and shouted urgently, “Jiang Ning, help me!”

Jiang Ning recognized the voice as Huang Xiaodong’s. She furrowed her brow and ignored him, continuing to walk quickly.

The family compound was not far ahead.

But after just a few steps, a man suddenly rushed out and blocked Jiang Ning’s path.

“Where are you going?”

The man who blocked her had a very lewd and ugly appearance. Seeing Jiang Ning, he was momentarily stunned, then quickly flashed an evil grin, “Oh ho, what a treasure I’ve encountered. When did such a beautiful woman appear around here?”

Jiang Ning’s eyes turned cold. No matter the era, there were always such disgusting people.

“My husband is from the nearby military district. Do you dare to touch me?”

Hearing this, the man’s body stiffened for a moment, but he quickly retorted, “You say so, and I should believe you?”
