“This…” The guard, hearing about the banner and the letter of commendation, instinctively glanced towards Brigade Commander Liang.
The leader was right there. Should he accept it or not?
Before the guard could feel awkward, Brigade Commander Liang stepped forward, “You can give the items to me. I am the leader here and can pass them on for you. What exactly are you commending?”
Seeing that the guard didn’t object, the young man and the elder immediately handed over the items.
The young man was Wu Gui, whose wife had nearly died in childbirth the previous night, and he had run to the clinic to find a doctor. Beside him was his wife’s grandfather, who was also the village head.
Wu Gui hurriedly explained, “Last night, my wife was giving birth, and the midwife said the baby’s position was wrong, endangering her life. Doctor Jiang Ning from the military family compound saved my wife. We are here to express our gratitude.”
The elder reached out to Brigade Commander Liang, speaking earnestly, “Leader, I am the village head from the neighboring village. I know this place has strict rules and can’t be entered casually. Since the doctor saved my granddaughter and great-grandson, I wanted to show my appreciation with this letter of commendation.”
Brigade Commander Liang nodded and accepted the banner and the letter of commendation, “Alright, I will take these items and ensure they are passed on.”
Wu Gui and the village head left satisfied. They had wanted to thank her in person, but when they went to the clinic today, they found it empty. So, they decided to leave the items with the soldiers at the family compound and wait for Jiang Ning to return to the clinic to thank her personally.
Wu Gui and the elder left.
Brigade Commander Liang looked at the envelope. The entire letter was filled with praise for Doctor Jiang Ning. He handed the envelope to the orderly beside him, “Go and deliver this letter of commendation to the broadcast station at the family compound. Have the broadcaster publicly commend the actions of the wife of Deputy Regiment Commander Shen.”
“Yes, sir.”
Meanwhile, Jiang Ning had already arrived at the school.
In the second-grade classroom, by the time Jiang Ning got there, the two children who had already been separated were fighting again for some unknown reason.
Some people were trying to break up the fight, or rather, three people were ganging up on Zhiqi.
Grandma Wang, seeing the children fighting, was anxious and pacing around. When she saw her grandson being beaten up, she immediately rushed over and started pushing and pinching Zhiqi.
Most of the people around were students, along with some parents who were watching coldly.
As long as the fight didn’t involve their own children, they wouldn’t intervene.
Zhiqi, despite being outnumbered three to one, showed no fear. He managed to give Wang Xiaotian and Wang Xiaodi a good beating, leaving them with bruises, though he also sustained some minor injuries.
The teacher, Feng Chuan, did not intervene to stop the students from fighting. He only occasionally said, “Don’t fight, talk it out.”
When Zhiqi had calmed down, Wang Xiaotian insulted Jiang Ning again, which made Zhiqi lose his temper and charge at him again.
Jiang Ning pushed through the crowd and saw the shameless old woman, Grandma Wang, hitting the child. Her expression immediately darkened. Without thinking, she reached out and pulled Grandma Wang away.
An old woman’s strength was no match for the young Jiang Ning.
Grandma Wang, feeling Jiang Ning pull her, rolled her eyes, stumbled, and sat on the ground, crying out, “Oh, my old back! How could a young girl like you push me? My legs hurt so much, I can’t get up. I think I’m crippled.”
“Heavens above, why is my fate so bitter? At my age, I’m being bullied by a youngster. Is there no justice left in this world?”
The old woman’s cries caused quite a commotion.
Since there were already some onlookers outside, her loud cries attracted even more people.
A crowd gathered around the classroom.
Seeing the old woman sitting on the floor, throwing a tantrum, everyone was astonished.
Their gazes then shifted to Jiang Ning, and upon seeing her striking and beautiful face, their expressions changed.
Grandma Wang was an expert at this kind of dramatic behavior.
Jiang Ning ignored her and went to Zhiqi. She saw the scratches on his face and the bruises on his exposed skin.
Suppressing her anger, Jiang Ning took out a handkerchief and gently wiped Zhiqi’s dirty face.
Seeing her silent, Zhiqi felt uneasy. His mother had told him she didn’t like naughty children, and he had caused her trouble by fighting. He feared she might not want him anymore.
The more he thought about this possibility, the paler he became. He was afraid Jiang Ning might say she didn’t want him.
He lowered his head, hiding his distress.
Even if Jiang Ning really didn’t want him, he would accept it. He had been the one who misbehaved first.
Fighting, no matter the reason, made him a bad child.
Jiang Ning handed him the handkerchief and gently patted Zhiqi’s head.
Seeing his tense body and sensing his nervousness, Jiang Ning softened her tone, “Don’t be afraid, I’m here.”
Zhiqi looked up, wide-eyed, his pupils trembling.
He had expected to be scolded by Jiang Ning.
Jiang Ning, comforting him like a child, gave him a piece of candy before turning her attention to Grandma Wang, who was still sitting on the floor.
She took two steps and crouched down in front of Grandma Wang.
“What are you crouching down for? Don’t even think about touching me! Be careful not to make my injuries worse!”
“Let me tell you, your son hit my grandson, and now you’ve crippled me. This isn’t over!”
Grandma Wang spoke before Jiang Ning could, remembering how sharp Jiang Ning’s tongue was. This time, she was determined to stick to her story no matter what Jiang Ning said, intending to humiliate her and make her lose face in the family compound forever!
However, this time she was wrong. Jiang Ning, silent, took a small cloth package from her bag, her movements quick and light as she slowly opened it.
When she pulled out a silver needle almost the length of her palm, everyone around them gasped in unison.
Jiang Ning approached Grandma Wang with the needle.
As the silver needle came closer, Grandma Wang silently scooted backward, but Jiang Ning grabbed her leg, “What… what are you doing?”
“What am I doing?” Jiang Ning tilted her head and then grinned, “Aren’t you in pain? I’m going to acupuncture you to relieve the pain. Don’t worry, I’m very skilled. I guarantee that with one needle, your pain will be gone.”
What skill? Doctors usually talk about medical skills, right?!
“No… no need.”
“Just try it. If I paralyze you, it’s on me. I’ll compensate you however much you want.” Jiang Ning raised the silver needle, her expression suggesting she was ready to pay up.
The silver needle glinted in the air, sending a chill down everyone’s spine.
It wasn’t the needle that scared Grandma Wang, but Jiang Ning’s words.
What did she mean by paralyzing her? Could she really do that with a needle?!
Grandma Wang definitely didn’t want to end up bedridden for life!
Just as Jiang Ning was about to insert the needle, Grandma Wang suddenly got up from the floor and pushed Jiang Ning forcefully, “Don’t needle me!”
Jiang Ning stumbled backward, her lower back hitting a table with a loud thud. The table creaked under the impact, and everyone in the classroom heard it.
Suddenly, Jiang Ning looked up, and tears started falling from her eyes.
Her watery eyes filled with tears, and then, as if realizing something, her beautiful eyes widened in disbelief, “Aunt Wang, your legs aren’t paralyzed! So, you were just pretending to be in pain to extort me?”
Tears still streaked her face as she held her lower back, looking pitiful, “Aunt Wang, I was sincerely trying to treat you. How could you push me? Waaah, it hurts! I hope my back isn’t broken!”
