Chapter 3: Breaking It Off
The bright crystal chandelier in the hall cast its light on Bo Si’s sharp-angled face, highlighting his features, as if every inch had been meticulously sculpted, without a single flaw.
The man’s long legs were crossed, his demeanor calm and composed.
His slightly raised chin displayed his arrogance, and his eagle-like eyes were fixed on Yu Feng.
Sang Tian’s heart trembled violently, her eyes filled with disbelief as she looked at Bo Si.
Was he trying to make their relationship public?
Sweetness spread through her heart, and she was enveloped in excitement and joy.
But thinking about the consequences, she immediately became worried.
Once their relationship was made public, uncle and niece… it would be a huge scandal. Not only would the Bo family’s reputation be ruined, their social credit would plummet, their stock price would crash, and most importantly, the eldest son of the Bo family’s political career would be severely damaged! Those political enemies would definitely seize this opportunity to make a big deal out of it, until they pulled him down from his position!
Then the Bo family’s century-old foundation would be destroyed.
Sang Tian was uneasy, clearly not wanting things to go that far. In her confusion, a harsh shout startled her, making her whole body tremble.
“Bo Si!” Old Madam Bo slammed her hand on the table, clearly furious, “Don’t talk nonsense! Sang Tian has always been well-behaved and sensible, she never makes friends casually, where did she get a boyfriend?”
Just when the two families were about to successfully form an alliance, and Bo Zhengrong was about to gain another powerful arm, suddenly someone said she had a boyfriend. Old Madam Bo almost choked on her anger. She was even more angry at her stupid son who couldn’t think straight. If she had one, she had one, just break it off, why say it in front of Yu Feng? Wouldn’t that leave no room for reconciliation? Of course, she couldn’t let the situation get out of hand.
She looked at Yu Feng, comforting him, her tone firm, “Don’t listen to Bo Si’s nonsense, those are just Sang Tian’s male friends, suitors, they don’t count as boyfriends. Your marriage with Sang Tian was arranged by both families, with the consent of our parents, that’s the real deal, don’t think too much about it.”
Yu Feng didn’t believe it. He was an upright person and didn’t want to force anything. He turned to Sang Tian, “Do you really have a boyfriend?”
Sang Tian rubbed her hands, not knowing how to answer for a moment.
If she admitted it, what would she say if they asked her who her boyfriend was? She couldn’t really say it was Bo Si, could she?
But if she didn’t admit it, her relationship with Yu Feng would be confirmed.
Old Madam Bo was looking at her with a warning in her eyes. She ignored her and looked at Bo Si.
The man nodded slightly at her, as if giving her a reassurance.
Although she didn’t know what he was planning, she chose to listen to him.
“Mm, I already have a boyfriend, and we’re doing pretty well.”
Yu Feng didn’t make things difficult for her when he heard this, instead, he offered his blessings and said that even if they couldn’t be lovers, they could be friends.
He was measured and very gentlemanly.
Old Madam Bo almost choked on her anger. She asked Bo Si to send Yu Feng away and called Sang Tian into the study.
The teacup smashed at her feet, Sang Tian instinctively dodged to the side, but the tea still splashed all over her.
Old Madam Bo was furious, “I don’t care how far you’ve gone with that wild man outside, you must break it off within three days!”
Sang Tian lowered her head and said nothing, silently resisting.
Old Madam Bo knew she was stubborn and had her own ideas. She snorted coldly, “Got a big head?”
“Don’t forget that the Bo family raised you. From head to toe, everything about you is from the Bo family! There’s no free lunch in the world. You’ve enjoyed the treatment of a Bo family young lady, so you have to fulfill the responsibilities of a Bo family young lady. Your marriage is not up to you! Even if you don’t marry into the Yu family, you’ll still have to marry someone else!”
Sang Tian raised her head, her eyes firm, “The shares and dividends Dad left me, I’ve never touched them. I owe the Bo family, I’ll repay them later, I won’t agree to an arranged marriage.”
Sang Tian’s resolute attitude made Old Madam Bo even more unhappy, “Repay? What will you repay with? Money? We Bo family don’t lack that money! Without the Bo family, there wouldn’t be you today. Everything about you, including the knowledge in your head, your stable mental state, even the formation of your values, is inseparable from the Bo family’s upbringing!”
Sang Tian couldn’t refute this. A four-year-old child was almost a blank slate. The fact that she could grow up to be who she is today was inseparable from the Bo family’s care. But it was unacceptable to ask her to repay with her lifelong happiness.
“I can repay in other ways, but I won’t agree to an arranged marriage.”
Old Madam Bo looked at her with disdain, sat down on the chair behind the desk, took a sip of tea, and then slowly said, “After all these years, your grandmother’s treatment at the nursing home is still arranged by the Bo family. I see that she’s getting better, I heard she can even use a wheelchair now. When will you bring her over? I’ll have a good chat with her.”
Sang Tian’s grandmother had a car accident the year her mother died, leaving her paralyzed and unable to take care of her. Second Master Bo sent her grandmother to the best nursing home in Jin City for treatment. It wasn’t until recent years that her upper body recovered some function and she could move around.
Old Madam Bo wanted to bring her grandmother over, this was a blatant threat.
“This has nothing to do with my grandmother.”
Old Madam Bo didn’t care about that, she only wanted the result, “Break it off with that wild man within three days, and get along well with Yu Feng! I can see that he still has feelings for you. Otherwise, you’ll bear the consequences!”
The door was knocked on, Bo Si came in after sending Yu Feng away. He noticed the atmosphere in the study was wrong, his eyes swept over the broken teacup on the floor, and he looked Sang Tian up and down, making sure that only tea had splashed on her before he breathed a sigh of relief.
“Mom, Sang Tian is still young, why are you getting angry with her?” Bo Si winked at Sang Tian, signaling her to go out, he would handle this.
Sang Tian glanced at Old Madam Bo, seeing that she didn’t object, she turned and left. As she reached the door, she heard Old Madam Bo’s warning, “Sang Tian! Remember what I just told you!”
Sang Tian paused for a moment before leaving.
The Bo family’s old mansion was on the mountainside, with mountains behind it and a lake in front.
She had come in Bo Si’s car, but now she had to go back, the old mansion wouldn’t send a car for her, so she could only walk down the winding mountain road.
The new round of selection was imminent, and the Yu family was the best support. Old Madam Bo, for Bo Zhengrong’s promotion, had to make her marry Yu Feng.
The dim path ahead was illuminated, and the crisp sound of a horn pulled her thoughts back. She turned her head and saw Bo Si.
He had one hand resting on the window, the other hand gripping the steering wheel, his appearance casual and unrestrained, “Get in.”
Sang Tian opened the car door and got in. Bo Si touched her head, “What did Mom tell you? Why do you look unhappy?”
Sang Tian didn’t hide anything, “She gave me three days to break it off with you.”
“What did you say?” Bo Si turned his head to look at her.
Sang Tian didn’t answer directly, but looked into Bo Si’s eyes and asked solemnly, “I can refuse an arranged marriage for you, can you refuse an arranged marriage for me?”
