Chapter 15: Embarrassment
After Little Mumu took his afternoon nap, Gu Nanyan returned to her room and opened her computer. She had already received many emails.
Medical experts from all over the world had sent invitations to meet.
After being declined, they had all asked medical-related questions.
Gu Nanyan responded to each one, almost like a customer service representative.
A few people hadn’t read her emails yet and hadn’t replied.
Gu Nanyan planned to wait until everyone had responded, then she would create a group.
In this era, medicine was still so underdeveloped. Since she had the medical skills, she wanted to use them to the fullest to save as many lives as possible.
As she was drafting an email, someone knocked on her door.
She closed the computer, opened the door, and saw Butler Lin standing respectfully outside.
“Madam, you will be going to the old house this weekend. Do you need any custom clothing?”
“No need, I don’t think there’s enough time. I’ll just wear my regular clothes,” Gu Nanyan replied, feeling that her wardrobe was already ample.
“Understood,” Butler Lin said before turning and leaving.
Gu Nanyan stood at the door and couldn’t help but glance toward the end of the corridor.
That was where Shen Boyan’s study was.
Both their bedrooms were on the second floor of the main house, but hers was at one end of the corridor and Shen Boyan’s was at the other.
The main house had a double staircase design, so they usually went upstairs separately, without disturbing each other.
Gu Nanyan suddenly felt that having such a large house might not be as great as it seemed.
If there were only one staircase, they would have more opportunities to bump into each other.
Just as she was about to return to her room, the study door suddenly opened, and Shen Boyan, wearing only a shirt, walked out.
Gu Nanyan’s expression faltered. Before she could look away, Shen Boyan’s gaze turned toward her.
Their eyes met once again. From across the corridor, the air seemed to crackle with electricity as their gazes collided, sparks flying.
Gu Nanyan stared at the noble and handsome man in front of her.
She could now understand why some people had been led astray by beauty.
Such beauty was simply impossible to look away from.
Shen Boyan, however, remained calm. After staring at her for a few seconds, he shifted his gaze and went downstairs.
Gu Nanyan suddenly snapped out of her daze, her face flushing slightly. She quickly turned and returned to her room.
Leaning against the door, she closed her eyes in embarrassment.
How could she be so useless?
Had she never seen a handsome man before?
But it seemed… she truly hadn’t seen one as handsome as him.
Downstairs, Shen Boyan had only been feeling a little bored in his study, so he came down for a breath of fresh air.
He had just sat on the sofa when a servant brought him a cup of hot tea.
Shen Boyan’s long, defined fingers lightly picked up the cup, and his gaze casually swept upstairs.
Gu Nanyan’s door was closed, but her image naturally appeared in his mind — her flushed face as she stared at him without blinking.
A smile unconsciously tugged at the corner of his lips. He took a sip of tea, unaware of the small shift in his mood.
Later that evening, after dinner, Gu Nanyan returned to her room and noticed many new clothes.
When she asked Xiao Yue, she found out that Butler Lin had instructed several luxury brands to send over the season’s limited edition pieces.
Since there wasn’t enough time for custom tailoring, he had allowed her to choose from these top luxury limited editions instead.
Gu Nanyan truly felt what it meant to be in a wealthy family.
“Xiao Yue, what kind of clothes does Boyan usually wear when he goes to the old house?” she asked.
There were so many clothes to choose from, Gu Nanyan didn’t know where to begin, so she asked Xiao Yue.
Without thinking, Xiao Yue replied, “Young Master always wears dark-colored clothes, even when he goes to the old house.”
“Dark-colored, huh…” Gu Nanyan’s gaze inadvertently landed on a few black dresses hanging on the rack. She didn’t like them.
“Has Little Mumu’s outfit for the old house been prepared?” she asked.
“Yes, it’s ready. It’s a light blue suit, very cute,” Xiao Yue answered, smiling.
All of these arrangements were made by Butler Lin. Xiao Yue, being familiar with him, had even taken a look herself.
“Blue?” Gu Nanyan’s eyes lit up. She loved blue.
Without hesitation, she grabbed a blue dress from the rack and smiled. “This one will do.”
“Madam, you look great in anything,” Xiao Yue sincerely complimented her.
Gu Nanyan usually looked beautiful even without makeup, and when she did put some on, she was sure to captivate everyone.
Weekend.
Gu Nanyan woke up early to get ready.
She put on the new dress, let her long hair fall over her shoulders, and applied a light layer of makeup. Standing in front of the mirror, she felt very pleased with her appearance.
No wonder people always say that three parts are about looks, and seven parts are about dressing up. A little bit of makeup can make such a difference.
The old house was a bit far from the estate, so she needed to leave early.
Once she finished getting ready, she quickly went downstairs, only to find that Shen Boyan and Little Mumu were already waiting downstairs.
Shen Boyan was still wearing his black suit, but this time, his tie was not dark, but a light-colored one embroidered with blue flowers.
Little Mumu was dressed in a cute light blue suit, looking adorable.
The father and son, sitting together, had similar faces, clearly father and son.
“Mommy’s here!”
Little Mumu spotted Gu Nanyan first, happily pointing at her.
Shen Boyan glanced over, and his eyes froze.
The young woman, in her light blue dress, slowly descended the white staircase. Her hair cascaded over her shoulders, her face serene, her demeanor elegant, with a subtle smile that was both gracious and poised.
“Daddy, isn’t Mommy pretty?” Little Mumu asked, noticing that his father was staring.
Shen Boyan quickly averted his gaze, but a trace of unease flashed in his dark eyes.
“Did I come down late?” Gu Nanyan asked, thinking she had woken up early, but seeing that father and son were already waiting.
“No, we came down early,” Little Mumu immediately answered on her behalf.
Gu Nanyan, surprised by how well Little Mumu could speak at his young age, smiled.
She glanced at Shen Boyan, but seeing his cold, expressionless face, she quickly wiped the smile from her face.
“It was Little Mumu who insisted on coming down to see you,” Shen Boyan explained, his expression still unreadable, as he picked up Little Mumu and said, “Let’s go have breakfast. After eating, we’ll head out.”
As the family walked toward the dining room, they encountered Qin Yuwei, who was waiting by the door.
Today, Qin Yuwei was clearly dressed up, wearing a silk dress with delicate makeup and voluminous waves in her long hair. Upon seeing Shen Boyan, she immediately walked over, “Mr. Shen, I heard that the old matriarch has been having some headaches again. Last time I visited her, I felt a strong connection, as if she reminded me of my own grandmother. Could I join you and visit her this time?”
Gu Nanyan was clearly stunned by Qin Yuwei’s words. She raised an eyebrow.
She had seen people with thick skin, but not to this extent.
Using the old matriarch as an excuse to cling to Shen Boyan?
Didn’t she know her place? What made her think she had the right to visit the old matriarch?
“No,” Shen Boyan replied coldly, his words firm and decisive.
Qin Yuwei froze in place.
