Rebirth in the ’70s: A Farming Side Story – Chapter 28

Chapter 28

Liu Ye, being somewhat of a “manly” type, was deeply displeased to see his sister’s unfaithful ex. Without hesitation, he stepped forward, blocking Li Qinghua’s path.

“What are you doing here? My sister made it clear last time—she doesn’t like you! Don’t come looking for her again! Go back to wherever you came from!”

Li Qinghua sneered coldly. “Then I should thank your sister! But I’m not here for that today. Who would’ve thought that your sister, who looks so naive, would secretly harm others? I really despise her!”

Liu Ye gritted his teeth in anger. “You!”

Hearing herself being called out, Liu Yu immediately stepped forward. “Li Qinghua, what nonsense are you talking about now? Liu Ye, leave this to me. I’ll handle it myself.”

Li Qinghua confronted Liu Yu directly. “What, you dared to have your father secretly harm someone, but now you don’t have the guts to admit it?”

Liu Yu’s expression remained calm as she met his gaze, her tone steady yet firm. “You’d better explain yourself clearly—who did I harm?”

Li Qinghua sneered. “Wasn’t it you who made Bai Xueling do the fertilizing work? You’re deliberately trying to humiliate her! Liu Yu, I don’t like you, so you go out of your way to target the woman I like. How despicable!”

Liu Ye, now understanding the situation, nearly spat blood.

OMG! What kind of over-the-top drama cliché was this?

Looking at Li Qinghua’s clueless face, it was obvious—this guy was being used as a tool.

Liu Yu coughed twice, clearing her throat. “So, you’re saying I set up Bai Xueling to do fertilizing work. Let me ask you, is labor divided into noble and lowly tasks?”

Li Qinghua thought for a moment. “No.”

Liu Yu clapped her hands. “Exactly! Harvesting forage and cutting pig grass are all hard, sweaty work. Labor is glorious; the joy of labor is endless!”

Li Qinghua found no fault in her logic. However, forcing the fair and delicate Bai Xueling to work with dirty fertilizers—this was clearly bullying!

“I’m telling you, I forbid you to make Bai Xueling do such filthy work!” Li Qinghua declared, issuing his final ultimatum.

“Ah? Forbid Bai Xueling from doing such work?”

Liu Yu blinked her eyes innocently and, seeing an opportunity, decided to use someone else as a tool. She turned to Liu Ye. “Hey, little brother, you’re quick on your feet. Go and fetch the team leader!”

The team leader happened to be nearby, patrolling. Since Liu Ye was the son of a trusted assistant, the team leader gladly came along when asked.

When the team leader arrived, Liu Yu greeted him sweetly. “Uncle Zhang, Li Qinghua says Bai Xueling shouldn’t have to do dirty work! I thought this was a matter for our production team, so I called you over.”

The team leader frowned in confusion. “Why is Li Qinghua telling you this?”

Liu Yu widened her eyes. “I don’t know either! This morning, my father assigned Bai Xueling to fertilize the cornfield, and then Li Qinghua came over to scold me out of nowhere!”

The team leader’s brows furrowed deeply.

Liu Ye chimed in, “Li Qinghua claims my sister set Bai Xueling up by making her do fertilizing work!”

In short, Liu Yu’s words subtly painted Li Qinghua as dissatisfied with Bai Xueling doing her assigned task.

The team leader’s face darkened further as he scolded Li Qinghua. “What is this nonsense? Fertilizing is hard work with the highest work points, and others are fighting to do it! Tasks are assigned by the squad leader under my orders. How exactly did she ‘set up’ Bai Xueling?”

Liu Yu, ever the opportunist, added fuel to the fire. “Team Leader, I’ve been trying to explain to Li Qinghua that no farm work is beneath anyone. But he insists Bai Xueling shouldn’t do dirty tasks.”

The team leader’s expression grew even grimmer. “Since when does our production team take orders from a young intellectual like you, Li Qinghua? Bai Xueling will fertilize as assigned! Women hold up half the sky—acting all delicate and pampered, what’s that supposed to mean?”
