Chapter 4
This was the third time this year.
The previous times, Wei Liangchen had basically helped her fend them off. A word from him was better than ten from her. Even if he couldn’t persuade them, he always had ways to make it impossible for them to succeed, and he wouldn’t push the blame onto her.
This was also one of the reasons why she had allowed this abnormal relationship to develop. Her strength was too small, she was no match for Mrs. Wei.
Actually, if the people Mrs. Wei introduced were decent, she was willing to accept them, as a way to repay the Wei family for their upbringing and the hundreds of dollars they spent on her hospital bills.
The problem was, the previous few were either divorced, or old enough to be her grandfather, or the Cloud Gang’s prince who was addicted to poppy, or a greasy man with a wife who wanted her to be a concubine.
How could she possibly marry any of them?
“What’s the third son like?” Jinye had no impression of him at all.
Mrs. Wei smiled. “The third son of Chief Zhou from the Su City Police Department, he’s the legitimate son, only a year older than Liangchen, he’s refined, handsome, and talented, he started his own shipping business, he’s young and successful.”
The better they described him, the more problematic it seemed, that was Jinye’s experience.
This time, it was her turn to rub her foot against Wei Liangchen’s calf, meaning for him to say something, to block it for her.
But he didn’t react at all.
She rubbed it again, but he still ignored her, his eyes were dark and distant, thinking about something.
Did he really not care about her because he heard that Miss Ling was coming back?
Jinye didn’t feel particularly sad, she just felt a little tightness in her chest. Finally, she gave up on asking for help and pulled her foot back. He suddenly said, “Go, go see him together.”
Then he got up, pulled out his chair and left, taking the bottle of wine that Li Ma had just brought over.
“This child…” Mrs. Wei shook her head.
If his temper was half as good as his skills, it would be perfect.
A gust of wind blew in from the window, Jinye felt a little cold. She lowered her head slightly. “Okay, I’ll go.”
Wei Yanting said, “Little Jin is still young, no need to rush into marriage.”
Jinye looked up at him in surprise.
Big Brother never interfered with Mrs. Wei’s affairs, was he helping her?
She had heard before that no matter who begged him for help, he would help. But Jinye had never asked him for anything.
Warlord Wei also hummed in agreement.
Just as Jinye saw a glimmer of hope, Mrs. Wei said while peeling shrimp for her husband, “She’s not that young anymore, she’s almost twenty. Besides, it’s just a look-see, not getting married. What if you hit it off, it’s fine to date first, if you don’t hit it off, we won’t force you, right, Little Jin?”
Jinye’s heart sank slightly. “…Yes.” She smiled. “You’re right, Mrs. Wei, it’s fine to meet first.”
Wei Yanting looked at her, then said nothing more.
Her favorite ice cream came out later, but Jinye didn’t enjoy it.
Jinye’s room was the last one on the second floor, it was a suite, with a separate bathroom and a walk-in closet. In terms of material things, the Wei family was generous with her.
She returned to her room shortly after dinner and stayed there until she finished her bath, there was no movement.
Did he really not care about her because his white moonlight was coming back?
Or was it that they had been sneaking around for almost a year, and the novelty had worn off?
Just as she was thinking, the phone rang, Jinye jumped.
It was transferred from the downstairs switchboard, Cheng Yi’s excited voice came through. “Little Jin, are you coming to school tomorrow? The layout of our new issue of the newspaper is out, Professor Gu from North City is coming to give us guidance this time.”
Cheng Yi was her close friend.
“No, I have something to do tomorrow.” Jinye said.
Cheng Yi was a little disappointed. “Okay, then see you the day after tomorrow.”
After hanging up the phone, Jinye packed the clothes she would wear tomorrow, and it was almost twelve o’clock before she knew it.
She walked to the window and looked up diagonally. From this position, she could see his bedroom. Sometimes, he came from there, his strong body like Spider-Man, a few flips, and he could climb in through the window.
The room was pitch black, he was asleep.
Good. Anyway, it was always uncomfortable to tiptoe around like a thief.
Jinye also went to sleep.
She would figure things out tomorrow.
She was young after all, no matter how big the matter was, it was hard to affect her sleep. The next day, Jinye woke up feeling refreshed. After breakfast, Deputy Commander Shen said the car was ready and asked them to leave first.
Wei Jiaqi was unhappy. “Where’s my brother?”
She hadn’t seen him all morning.
Breakfast was eaten by Mrs. Wei, Wei Jiaqi, and Jinye together.
Deputy Commander Shen was Wei Liangchen’s aide, named Shen Yunzhuo. He smiled, “The young master didn’t say, he just said to send the third and fourth misses.”
“He wouldn’t stand someone up, would he?” Wei Jiaqi said.
“He wouldn’t dare.” Mrs. Wei was confident. “Then you two go first, don’t keep the other party waiting.”
Then she turned to Jinye. “Mr. Zhou was so happy when he heard you were willing to meet, he immediately cancelled all his schedule for today. Get along well.”
Jinye squeezed out a smile. “I will.”
The two girls got in the car.
They were riding in Wei Liangchen’s usual car today, a jet-black, shiny, extended Chevrolet. The back seat was spacious and very comfortable. This man knew how to enjoy himself, he didn’t feel sorry for himself at all.
The Wei family’s private horse farm was in the western suburbs, next to a hill with beautiful scenery. Many local and foreign wealthy people had bought land and built villas there, using it as a summer retreat or a stopover for outings.
Warlord Wei also had a villa on the hill.
“Didn’t my brother spend the night here last night?” As they got out of the car, they saw a few people riding horses down from the hill in the distance. The eye-catching one in the middle was none other than Wei Liangchen.
Jinye pretended not to see him and went straight into the horse farm.
Ning Xiujun, the daughter of the Governor of Huan Province, and Zhou Siwei, the third son of the Chief of the Su City Police Department, were already there. Besides them, there were two other girls, one was Zhou Siwei’s sister, and the other was Ning Xiujun’s cousin.
It seems like having a sister is standard for blind dates.
Jinye followed Wei Jiaqi and greeted Ning Xiujun first.
Ning Xiujun had beautiful features and was already wearing riding clothes. She had a valiant and heroic air, a woman who could match men in strength.
Then she looked at Zhou Siwei.
She thought he would be a flamboyant and lustful playboy, but his eyes were gentle, his temperament was elegant, he even had a bit of her elder brother’s vibe. He was even more handsome than Mrs. Wei had described.
“Look, Young Master Wei is here.”
Wei Liangchen was wearing a white shirt, a dark blue waistcoat on top, matching riding pants, and black riding boots. All you could see were legs, plus that handsome face, and he instantly attracted everyone’s attention.
It has to be said, wherever he went, he was the most dazzling presence.
It was as if the sun’s light was shining on him.
“I’m actually the last one to arrive.” He smiled.
“Important people make a grand entrance.” Ning Xiujun, considering herself a new-style woman, boldly looked him up and down, her eyes shining with admiration. “Everyone is riding horses, why don’t we have a race?”
That instantly shortened the distance between them.
“I wouldn’t dare refuse.” Wei Liangchen said.
His gaze swept over the girl next to him.
