Chapter 9
“Would that be too forward?” Zhou Siwei was a little embarrassed too.
Jinye asked, “Mr. Zhou, you should know about my background. But you’re the legitimate son of your family, don’t you think it’s not a good match?”
“I don’t care about that.” Zhou Siwei said. Zhou’s father wasn’t a traditional person, Zhou’s mother might mind a little, but she listened to her husband. He himself had studied at North City University for a few years, and he considered himself to be in tune with the times, not bound by arranged marriages, he believed in free love.
A scholar.
Jinye was instantly impressed.
“Of course.” Zhou Siwei said again. “My father was promoted by the Warlord. He wanted to solidify this relationship through marriage, and Mrs. Wei also has this intention, so I’m just going with the flow.”
Zhou Siwei looked at her.
She was very fair, with a small, upturned nose, and when she smiled, she had a shallow dimple on her left cheek, very sweet.
Their eyes met, and Jinye became even more uncomfortable.
Maybe she could give it a try?
But she was scared from the previous blind dates, she couldn’t believe that Mrs. Wei would give her such a good opportunity.
Zhou Siwei was also afraid of scaring her, he smiled. “You don’t have to answer me right away, there’s plenty of time.”
“Thank you.” Jinye breathed a sigh of relief.
The Cantonese food was authentic, and Zhou Siwei was also knowledgeable and talented, there was basically no awkward silence. When he talked about his yacht, which could sail directly to Hong Kong, everyone listened with great interest, saying that they would definitely take a ride on it next time.
The meal was very enjoyable.
In the end, Deputy Commander Shen sent the three girls back to the Warlord’s mansion.
Then he went back to the villa in the western suburbs to wait for orders.
Yang Xin was a guest, she stayed in a guest room in the separate courtyard. Jinye went to see her off, and took the opportunity to go see the second concubine and Wei Jiaxin. Of all the children in the Warlord’s mansion, she and Wei Jiaxin had the best relationship.
After Xu Xiaoyun’s accident, she had stayed in the second concubine’s courtyard for a while, sleeping with Jiaxin. Later, she moved to the main villa.
Jinye packed a plate of white cloud pork knuckle for her, it was chilled, refreshing, sweet and sour, and could be eaten as a snack.
“You’re trying to fatten me to death.” Wei Jiaxin was a foodie, she complained but still ate it. While eating, she gossiped. “Tell me, what about you and the third son of the Zhou family?”
She didn’t know about Jinye and Wei Liangchen’s affair, she wanted to be a sisterly love consultant.
Jinye told her the gist of it, the second concubine was listening too. “I think he seems pretty good, at least much better than the previous few.”
“Next time you two go on a date, take me to meet him, I’ll give you some advice.” Wei Jiaxin, who had read a few love poems, was now a love expert.
The second concubine rolled her eyes at her. “I’m going too.”
The three of them laughed.
To be honest, they didn’t trust Mrs. Wei very much.
The second concubine said, “I hope Mr. Zhou is a good man, if you marry him, your aunt will be relieved.”
Although the concubines were also in competition with each other, the saying goes “the enemy of my enemy is my friend.” The second and third concubines had once been allies, they had a revolutionary friendship. Now that she was like this, they felt even more sympathy for her.
Jinye smiled. “We’ll see, it’s not even set in stone.”
She asked again, “Aunt Qiu, who did your sister say she was going to meet? Think back.”
The second concubine’s surname was Qiu. She frowned. “She only said she was going to meet a friend, she didn’t say his name.”
The second concubine remembered clearly. “At that time, your aunt was happy, but she also seemed a little nervous. She wore a new dress, with a dark red opera coat over it, and asked me if her hair looked good.”
“This person must be important.” Jinye said.
But the Warlord had been investigating for two years and hadn’t found anything. Her aunt’s things were collected and returned to her, and she had looked through them many times, but there were no new discoveries.
“Maybe your aunt is blessed, she’ll wake up.”
“I hope so.” Medical miracles do happen, but the probability is very low.
Wei Jiaxin and Jinye were in the same school, they were still in preparatory school. They agreed to go out together tomorrow.
Jinye returned to her room and reviewed her lessons for a while before going to sleep.
She didn’t know if it was because she had eaten too much white cloud pork knuckle, but her stomach felt a little bloated, and she tossed and turned, unable to sleep.
Her eyes rolled around, looking at the moonlight pouring in from outside, she remembered that it was a full moon today.
The last full moon was spent at the villa on the mountain, looking at the moon from the rooftop. It was big and round, like a silver plate. The birds and frogs chirped in the mountains, the breeze was gentle, it was peaceful and comfortable.
But it wasn’t peaceful at all later, she shouted for half the night, her throat was hoarse.
What was he doing now?
It was impossible to say that she didn’t mind at all. But if he really accepted Ning Xiujun, this hidden relationship of theirs might be over.
Thinking about going to school tomorrow, Jinye ordered herself to calm down. She was tired from playing all day, and she eventually fell asleep. As she was drifting off to sleep, she felt like the wind was a little strong, blowing the window, she opened her eyes, it seemed like the curtains were swaying, but she thought it was impossible, the window was closed tightly, the curtains couldn’t move.
She was really sleepy, her head was heavy, and she quickly fell asleep again.
The next day, she had just finished brushing her teeth when she suddenly heard a horn outside, followed by a mother’s voice, “Young Master is back.”
“So early!” It was Mrs. Wei’s voice, she always got up early and liked to prepare breakfast for the children.
Jinye pushed open the bathroom window and looked out. She saw Wei Liangchen and Ning Xiujun getting out of the car, one after the other.
Wei Liangchen seemed to look up, but Jinye quickly retracted her head, unsure if he had looked up.
It was 7:15 AM.
Jinye put on her embroidered shoes, those black velvet old Beijing cloth shoes, a light blue shirt with a dark blue skirt, her school uniform, and hurried downstairs.
Breakfast was already set on the table, Wei Jiaqi was sitting there drinking porridge and yawning. Mrs. Wei was personally arranging the tableware. When she saw them come in, she smiled. “You’re up so early, why don’t you sleep a little longer.”
It has to be said that Mrs. Wei’s thinking was open, maybe it was because Mr. Song was putting pressure on her.
Jinye had just arrived when Wei Liangchen and Ning Xiujun also sat down.
Ning Xiujun’s face looked a little tired.
Even with powder, it couldn’t hide the dark circles under her eyes.
Was her brother that intense?
Wei Jiaqi’s eyes were rolling, one moment she was frowning, the next she was pouting, like her own cabbage had been eaten by a pig.
Jinye said nothing, she sat down next to her, but she didn’t look at the people across from her.
She suddenly felt like she had no appetite.
Mrs. Wei had a knowing, secret smile on her face. She scolded her son, “You don’t know how to be considerate, I’m not some Empress Dowager, I need to be woken up early for morning greetings.”
“Aren’t you the Empress Dowager?” Wei Liangchen’s lazy voice rang out, his posture was still not proper, his gaze swept over a certain woman, a moment of dark, fierce energy flashed in his eyes, as if it were real.
Jinye felt like she had thorns all over her body, she quickly glanced at him, then quickly turned away, focusing on her breakfast.
“Shrimp dumplings?” Her eyes lit up.
“Yes, Mr. Zhou sent them. He said the Cantonese teahouse we went to last night had breakfast, and he sent someone to buy them early this morning.” Mrs. Wei seemed very pleased.
Especially last night, she had also heard from Wei Jiaqi that Jinye had been very cooperative throughout, chatting and laughing with Zhou Siwei, and even letting Ning Xiujun win when they were shooting, she was very good at handling people.
Jinye felt a warmth in her heart, and her appetite returned. She picked up her chopsticks to grab a shrimp dumpling.
Suddenly, another pair of chopsticks intervened. She looked up and met Wei Liangchen’s gaze.
