In the moment of passing by, Yu Yue’s eyes turned red. But he forcibly held back the tears, went through security, and submitted all the necessary documents.
Once on the plane, before takeoff, Yu Yue sat in the window seat.
Closing his eyes, he took a short rest. His phone rang.
Lowering his head, he saw that it was a call from Steven.
After a moment, he answered the call.
On the other end of the phone, Steven’s voice trembled as he asked, “Did you go back to your country…”
Yu Yue replied with a soft “Hmm,” and added, “I’ll be back soon.”
Steven asked anxiously, “Did you go back to… reconcile with Z?”
Yu Yue remained silent, gazing at the thick night outside the porthole.
He had been holding back, enduring until now. It felt like he couldn’t hold back anymore. Tears slid down his face, and a faint sob escaped his throat. “Hmm.”
Steven asked, “Did it work?”
Closing his eyes, Yu Yue whispered, “No.”
Steven uttered a soft “Ah.”
Raising his hand, Yu Yue pressed against his heated eyelids, speaking very softly, “He didn’t come. I waited for him for a long time. I gave him many chances… I stood by the glass, waiting for him to come over and hug me. But he didn’t. I walked past him, waiting for him to grab my hand, but he didn’t…”
Steven had originally thought that Yu Yue hadn’t met this so-called “Z.”
But he didn’t expect that he did.
Steven was at a loss for words, completely stunned.
During the breakup, it seemed like Yu Yue had never cried like this, shed tears like this. When he moved out of the house he shared with Xu Yuanzhe, he didn’t shed a tear. After going abroad, he never cried. During countless nights thinking about Xu Yuanzhe… Yu Yue wasn’t aware of it, so he refused to acknowledge that he had shed tears.
But today, Yu Yue cried for the first time while fully conscious.
Standing two or three steps away, Xu Yuanzhe just stood there, unwilling to approach.
After ending the call, Yu Yue bent down, burying his face in his knees. While the plane hadn’t taken off yet, he cried like this for a very long time.
It wasn’t until a flight attendant approached, inquiring about his condition, that he slowly lifted his face.
It seemed like he had truly broken up with Xu Yuanzhe.
Moreover, Yu Yue was acutely aware that in the future, he might never be with Xu Yuanzhe again.
Because Yu Yue knew that it wasn’t just Xu Yuanzhe who didn’t come over.
Yu Yue himself didn’t turn around either.
While looking at the figure reflected in the glass, Yu Yue had a thousand chances to turn around, but he didn’t. In the moment of passing by, Yu Yue also had a thousand chances to grab Xu Yuanzhe’s hand, but he didn’t.
Because Yu Yue knew himself. When he saw the current Xu Yuanzhe, he was genuinely happy. Happy to see Xu Yuanzhe getting roles, signing with a good company, finding a good agent, gradually getting better roles, and having a brighter future. Yu Yue was genuinely happy.
Yu Yue was unsure if, by returning to Xu Yuanzhe now, he would, as before, bring more pressure to Xu Yuanzhe or make him feel that he couldn’t provide a better life.
In reality, Yu Yue didn’t care about those things. He only cared about Xu Yuanzhe.
Just like how Xu Yuanzhe wouldn’t know that Yu Yue, watching him work so hard, felt more pain and sorrow than anyone else.
That’s how it is.
Yu Yue thought, hoping that the boy he liked could, as he said before, go from supporting actor to second lead, from second lead to lead, then make movies, and finally become a movie star.
He should have his own dreams and youth, not be buried in the pressure and hopelessness that didn’t belong to him just to provide a better life for Yu Yue.
Before the plane took off, Yu Yue took out his phone again.
He sent a message to Xu Yuanzhe.
He said, “I’m sorry. Actually, the words I said earlier were part of a dare my friend asked me to do. I’m sorry for the misunderstanding.”
After a moment of silence, Xu Yuanzhe replied.
He said, “Okay.”
Yu Yue’s eyelashes trembled.
He continued, “I hope your work goes smoothly, that you get more and more roles, and become more and more popular.”
Xu Yuanzhe replied, “Okay.”
With lowered eyes, Yu Yue continued to type. Tears fell on the phone screen as he wrote, “I also hope you meet someone more suitable for you in the future.”
Xu Yuanzhe still said, “Okay.”
…
Sitting in the company’s car, Xu Yuanzhe turned his head to look at the predawn night outside the window.
His agent sat in the front passenger seat, turning slightly and asking Xu Yuanzhe, “Why didn’t you go up just now? You’ve finally come back; why didn’t you take a step forward?”
Xu Yuanzhe extinguished the light of the phone screen.
Closing his eyes, he leaned his head against the car window, his voice hoarse and unrecognizable, “I don’t know.”
After a long, long silence, Xu Yuanzhe finally said, “Maybe because I haven’t learned magic yet.”
The agent was puzzled, “What magic?”
Eyes closed, Xu Yuanzhe whispered, “The magic that can conjure up a lot of money.”
Silence filled the car for a moment.
The agent reassured him, “It’s okay. Take your time to repay those debts. Things are getting better now, and the company has a legal department for lawsuits. Don’t worry too much.”
Xu Yuanzhe didn’t say anything.
The car was silent.
The agent didn’t speak again.
Xu Yuanzhe closed his eyes, leaning against the car window, appearing as if he had fallen asleep. Yet, in this quiet moment, a trace of autumn frost-like tears slid down his cheek.
…
On the plane, Yu Yue cried and slept, woke up, and uncontrollably shed tears again.
However, after a dozen hours on the plane, there would always be a time when the tears ran dry.
Just like on this day, in the small episode during the five years of separation from Xu Yuanzhe, and in the upcoming nearly five years, this moment would gradually fade away.
TN:
F*ck these two are so frustrating😭. JUST F*CKIN COMMUNICATE!!!!! Why do you keep making assumptions about what the other wants when they never even said that?!
