Chapter 13.1 Public Photo
In an hour and a half, her birthday would be over.
Shi Miao chose a photo from the birthday wishes photos taken by Min Xi, and captioned it: 【I made a luxurious wish tonight.】
This was her first WeChat Moments post in six months.
The first person to like it was Ye Shuo, who commented: Happy birthday.
The second person to like it was Ye Xicun, whose blessing was equally simple: May your wish come true.
Ye Sangyu was blocked, so she couldn’t see this post, and she no longer had to feel unhappy because the two of them liked Shi Miao’s Moments so quickly.
After posting, Shi Miao locked her phone screen and put it aside. She had plenty of time tonight, but she didn’t read. She turned off the lights, leaned against the headboard, and stared into the darkness for a while.
When she opened her phone again, there were over a hundred likes and comments. Some friends and university classmates, under the guise of wishing her a happy birthday, also gossiped about who the man beside her was and why she didn’t post a high-definition photo.
Shi Miao replied: I don’t have a high-definition photo of him on my phone, I’ll post one next time.
This was considered a positive response to the relationship between her and the man in the photo, and they all started to make a fuss.
The university classmates’ group, which had been silent for months, became lively again tonight because of Shi Miao.
【Is the man in the photo Ye Xicun?】
【What are you talking nonsense about? Ye Xicun is Shi Miao’s brother.】
【So what if he’s her brother? He’s not her biological brother, you old-fashioned people (smirk)】
【To tell you the truth, the man in the photo does have a bit of Ye Xicun’s temperament.】
【Right, I feel the same way.】
【Your eyesight is really good, it’s so dark you can’t even see the outline, you have X-ray vision!】
【How do you know I have X-ray vision? I’m in the radiology department! Haha.】
Ye Xicun had accompanied Zhao Moyin to Shi Miao’s school, and her roommates knew him and had even had dinner together. In the following years, Ye Xicun often sent things to Shi Miao on behalf of Zhao Moyin, and many classmates had seen him in person.
This was the first time they had made such an inappropriate joke.
Shi Miao clarified in the group: Ye Xicun is my brother, the man in the photo is my husband.
The classmate who shipped her and Ye Xicun: I was just joking, don’t take it to heart.
Shi Miao: It’s okay.
The group changed the topic: 【Shi Miao, did you apply for the outstanding paper selection?】
Another classmate: 【If you guys hadn’t mentioned it, I would have almost forgotten. The Cardiothoracic Surgery Annual Meeting is being held in Beicheng this year, Shi Miao must have applied.】
Shi Miao replied: I applied.
The group started chatting about the October surgery conference, and she exited the chat box.
Several more people liked her Moments, Shi Miao clicked in and saw Min Ting’s profile picture among a row of profile pictures. He only liked it, without any words, his usual style.
She was about to go to sleep when Min Ting sent a message: I’m home. Do you need me to post it on Moments?
Shi Miao: ?
She didn’t understand what he meant for a moment.
Min Ting explained concisely: Public. Didn’t you post a photo of us together?
Shi Miao understood, he was reciprocating.
She said: Aren’t you always wearing a ring? That’s also considered public.
Min Ting: It’s different.
He didn’t ask her again whether she needed to post it, and started editing the photo.
A few minutes later, Shi Miao saw her birthday photo appear on Min Ting’s Moments. His caption was in line with his personality, no words, only a cake emoji.
It was both public and a birthday celebration for her.
Before they got their marriage certificate, she never thought he would be so considerate of her feelings.
In return, Shi Miao gave him a like.
Their circles of friends barely overlapped. She only saw Min Xi’s comment: Brother, your phone won’t be able to rest tonight (smiling without saying anything)
Unknowingly, it was past midnight, and Shi Miao turned off her phone and went to sleep.
She still didn’t receive a call or message from her father, it seemed that he had completely forgotten her birthday.
—
After her birthday, Shi Miao got busy and stopped caring too much about whether her father remembered her birthday.
On Friday afternoon, Gu Changshen posted a screenshot in the cardiac surgery group chat, which was the list of selected outstanding papers this year.
He humorously said: Congratulations to our Dr. Shi for making it into the top sixteen, keep up the good work, and strive to make it into the top eight!
Shi Miao stood out from hundreds of young cardiothoracic surgeons, but whether she would eventually win or not would depend on another round of on-site competition.
During the Cardiothoracic Surgery Annual Meeting, she would give a presentation with fifteen other selected candidates.
Gu Changshen: Prepare your presentation well.
Shi Miao: Yes, director.
Having been selected for the outstanding paper, she had the opportunity to participate in the annual cardiothoracic surgery conference. According to the department’s custom, she had to treat everyone to coffee, so she started to order coffee.
“One cup of coffee won’t do.” A colleague who had just finished surgery sat down heavily on a chair. “The Cardiothoracic Surgery Annual Meeting is only held in our country every few years, and this time it’s in Beicheng again. It’s such a rare opportunity for you to catch, you can’t just treat us to one cup of coffee, right, Lao He?” He sought He Wenqian’s agreement.
He Wenqian was happy for Shi Miao and chimed in: “Why not two cups?”
“…Don’t you understand life! Afternoon tea must have coffee and cake. If there are no buns, have a piece of cake to warm your heart.”
He Wenqian: “You have it in for buns, don’t you?”
The colleague laughed: “How can I not? Shi Miao got married, and I can’t eat the buns from that bun shop anymore.” He had two surgeries today and had been standing on the operating table for more than ten hours. He leaned back wearily, looked at Shi Miao and said with a smile, “Shi Miao, our director’s blood sugar isn’t low, I specifically checked his blood sugar during the last physical examination, give me his cake, let me be the one to get sick.”
Shi Miao smiled: “Plenty of cake.”
“Shi Miao is awesome!” He closed his eyes, and overwhelming tiredness came over him. “Call me when the cake arrives.”
