Chapter 49: A Salted Fish Will Thrive Anywhere

Jiang Shouchuan, Qin Fu, and the others were chatting with Han Shiguo. After all, what man doesn’t have some admiration for the military? However, not everyone has the chance to join.

Han Shiguo shared some of the things he could talk about.

As the conversation went on, the topic shifted to housing allocation. Su Lili asked Han Shiguo, “When Jiang Qian follows you to the military, will she live in the house the military has assigned to you?”

“Yes,” Han Shiguo nodded.

“That’s so nice!” Su Lili was clearly envious.

Jiang Shouchuan then asked Qin Fu, “I heard your factory is about to allocate a batch of houses?”

“You’re getting housing allocated?” Su Lili quickly turned to Qin Fu, as if she hadn’t known about it.

Qin Fu nodded. “Yes, but it doesn’t really concern us. It’s mainly a benefit for the senior employees.”

Hearing this, Su Lili looked disappointed. Qin Fu, knowing what she was thinking, asked Jiang Shouchuan about renting a place since Jiang Shouchuan had many connections.

“Renting a place? Yeah, there’s one near us. There’s an older lady who has a nice house—it’s two bedrooms and a living room. I even went to see it with a colleague. The rent is a bit high though, two yuan and eighty cents a month. And that lady is quite strict about cleanliness. She once refunded a tenant’s rent and kicked them out because they weren’t tidy. If you’re interested, I can take you to check it out after dinner. Personally, I think it’s great!” Jiang Shouchuan explained.

Qin Fu and Su Lili exchanged a glance, their eyes lighting up. “Let’s go see it after we eat!” they both said excitedly.

“Alright,” Jiang Shouchuan agreed.

The group enjoyed a cheerful meal together. After dinner, Jiang Shouchuan took Qin Fu and Su Lili to check out the house, while Han Shiguo drove Jiang Qian home.

Jiang Qian sighed, “Who knows when we’ll be able to gather like this again?”

Han Shiguo had a good impression of his brother-in-law and of Qin Fu and Su Lili as well. “Don’t worry, whenever we have time, I’ll bring you back.”

“We’ll see when the time comes,” Jiang Qian said, leaning against his back. “Shiguo.”

“Hmm?” Han Shiguo responded while pedaling the bicycle.

Jiang Qian smiled. “Nothing, just felt like calling your name.”

She couldn’t help but feel a bit emotional. Who would have thought she’d be getting married so soon? They had only known each other for a few days!

But fate works in mysterious ways. Some people are in relationships for seven or eight years, or even a decade, only to break up in the end. And then there are situations like theirs.

Love at first sight.

But who knows what the future holds? There’s always the chance that he might change his heart someday.

Still, Jiang Qian’s personality was always to go with the flow.

In simpler terms, she had a bit of a “salted fish” attitude.

There’s a saying that a salted fish, no matter where it is, will always live well.

Take this moment, for example. Even though she had married him after knowing him for such a short time, Jiang Qian had no regrets.

In life, the most important thing is the present!

Jiang Qian hugged his waist, and now that they were officially married, she didn’t hold back her playful side. She reached out and touched his stomach.

Han Shiguo glanced down, a smile in his eyes. “It’s windy out here. You can put your hand inside.”

Well, since he put it that way, she wasn’t going to hold back!

Jiang Qian happily slid her hand inside and started feeling the abs she had been thinking about for so long. As she did, she couldn’t help but ask, “How did you train these? How did you get them so perfect?”

Han Shiguo chuckled and asked, “Do you like them?”

“Of course,” Jiang Qian answered straightforwardly. She believed that showing appreciation for her partner was a great way to strengthen their relationship.

As expected, Han Shiguo was quite pleased. “If you like them, feel free to touch them whenever you want. I’m all yours.”

This response was exactly what Jiang Qian wanted to hear. He was hers now—if she wanted to touch, she could touch; if she wanted to kiss, she could kiss.

Well, maybe not kiss just yet.

After a little while, she withdrew her hand and sat quietly behind him.

By the time they arrived at Han Family Village, the sky had already turned dark.

Only someone like Han Shiguo would dare travel so late. Just because the times were decent didn’t mean there weren’t any wrongdoers around. They still existed.

But Han Shiguo wasn’t the type to be afraid.

After returning the bicycle, they headed home.

“You’re back? Have you eaten?” Han Shiguo’s mother asked with a smile.

“Yes, we’ve eaten,” Jiang Qian replied with a smile of her own.

“That’s good,” Han Shiguo’s mother nodded.

Han Shimin, Li Xia, and Han Jiadong, along with Han Jiayue, were all in their respective rooms. Since it was already dark, they were washing up and getting ready for bed.

Jiang Qian went back to her room, while Han Shiguo followed his mother into her room to hand over the bankbook. “I’ve put it into a three-year fixed deposit.”

The duration of the deposit was always up to his mother to decide.

“Alright,” Han Shiguo’s mother replied softly, then smiled and said, “Go make some brown sugar ginger tea for Jiang Qian.”

“Mm.” Han Shiguo went to the kitchen to boil water. First, he brought over a large basin of warm water for Jiang Qian to wash up. It was colder than yesterday, and with weather like this, she didn’t really need to bathe every day, especially since she hadn’t been working in the fields. But Jiang Qian still wanted to clean up—it made her feel refreshed and comfortable.

After she finished and opened the door, Han Shiguo brought in the ginger tea he had just brewed.

Having been out all day, and with everything that had happened, Jiang Qian was a little tired. After drinking the tea and brushing her teeth, she decided to go to bed.

As expected, though, before going to sleep, Han Shiguo still wanted to enjoy the pleasures of having a wife.

Although he couldn’t eat, it was still nice to play around and tease his wife a bit.

Jiang Qian eventually fell asleep in his arms, and in the cold of the night, her sleep quality was excellent—she slept all the way through until morning.

But when she woke up, Han Shiguo was already gone.

He had gotten up early to scoop some flour and knead the dough. While the dough was resting, he went to buy some meat, chopped up the filling, and started making dumplings.

However, when he was chopping the filling, Li Xia heard the noise.

Unable to resist, she nudged Han Shimin. Han Shimin, clearly annoyed, grumbled, “What are you doing up so early? Why don’t you go back to sleep?”

He wasn’t like Li Xia—when it came to working in the fields, he never slacked off. He always put in full work hours, because with four kids to feed, he had no choice. Even though they received money from Han Shiguo, he would never just take it easy.

He knew that sooner or later, they would have to split the family up. His younger brother couldn’t keep supporting him forever. Besides, as the older brother, he didn’t have the face to keep taking advantage of Han Shiguo’s money.

He had responsibilities, and he would do his part.

So, by the end of the year, he was truly exhausted. There was no time to rest, except during this winter season, when he could recuperate and restore his energy.

But this early morning sleep was too comfortable to waste, even with all the noise.

“You hear that? He’s chopping the filling again. Are they making dumplings?” Li Xia couldn’t help but comment.

Han Shimin heard it too, and to be honest, he felt a little tempted. He glanced at her and said, “Give me some money, and I’ll go buy some meat too.”

“Are you crazy? We’ve barely got any money left. You think you can just buy meat whenever you feel like it?”
