She looked like a princess from the mortal world and an ethereal fairy descended from heaven!
When Princess Huarong glanced at her, Feng Yuanyuan quickly assumed a respectful posture, kneeling on the couch.
However, Princess Huarong lowered her eyes and continued reading.
Feng Yuanyuan was left dumbfounded.
Weiyun smiled and handed her a moist towel, whispering, “Wipe your face. We’ve already entered the city of Ningzhou.”
Feng Yuanyuan then noticed the bustling scene outside the carriage, filled with lively chatter.
She wanted to look but didn’t dare to, so she lowered her head and took the towel. The fabric was also made of silk, soft and smooth. If someone gave it to her, she would probably be reluctant to use it to wipe her face.
“Come, I’ll help you comb your hair.”
Feng Yuanyuan obediently got off the couch and sat in front of Weiyun.
Although Princess Huarong had her own maidservant for hairstyling, Weiyun’s skills were also exceptional. She quickly fashioned a delicate and lovely hair bun for Feng Yuanyuan, leaving a thin layer of bangs on her forehead.
“Look in the mirror.”
Weiyun put down the comb and took out a gemstone mirror the size of a folding fan.
Feng Yuanyuan stared in amazement at the mirror handle made of gold and the various gemstones and jade embedded on it. When Weiyun turned the mirror around, Feng Yuanyuan saw her own face so clearly for the first time that she was startled, taking a while to adjust.
Immersed in these novel things, Feng Yuanyuan amused Weiyun, who burst into laughter.
Princess Huarong lifted her eyes.
In the princess’s eyes, Feng Yuanyuan’s freshly washed face was rosy, like the most tender peach blossoms on a branch. Her almond-shaped eyes were clear and lively.
Seeing this budding beauty, Princess Huarong couldn’t help but think that if such a girl ended up in a brothel, she would become the most valuable and sought-after courtesan in a single night. No wonder she had caught someone’s attention at the age of seven.
“What does the princess think?”
Seeing her mistress scrutinizing Feng Yuanyuan, Weiyun smiled and asked.
Princess Huarong glanced at Feng Yuanyuan’s plain hair, and with a critical tone, she said, “Too simple. Add some hair accessories later.”
The ones she currently wore were not suitable for Feng Yuanyuan.
Weiyun’s heart stirred. How did the princess plan to arrange this child? If she was just treated as a little maid, there was no need to bother adding hair accessories. Weiyun, who had served the princess since childhood, had received many precious jewelry gifts. However, none of them were specially added for her.
“You indeed are a fortunate one.”
Gently pinching Feng Yuanyuan’s somewhat bewildered face, Weiyun sighed softly.
Feng Yuanyuan, being around nobility, dared not say much.
The noise outside gradually faded away, and after another quarter of an hour, the carriage finally stopped.
Weiyun got off the carriage first, followed by Princess Huarong.
It was Feng Yuanyuan’s turn. She emerged from the carriage and, lifting her head, saw a majestic mansion gate. On the plaque hung four majestic characters: “Zhen Nan Wang Fu” (Zhen Nan Prince’s Residence). Eight guards knelt before the gate, all bowing respectfully to welcome the princess back to the mansion.
Overwhelmed by the grandeur, Feng Yuanyuan, guided by Weiyun, was carried out of the carriage. Subconsciously, she pressed close to Weiyun as she was brought out.
Weiyun held her hand and, with a composed demeanor, followed behind Princess Huarong as they walked toward the mansion.
Princess Huarong was headed to the rear residence of the mansion, leaving Chen Jing in the front yard.
As the sun began to set, Princess Huarong first went for a bath, leaving Feng Yuanyuan in Weiyun’s care.
Weiyun, leading Feng Yuanyuan, went to their quarters. A maid brought a tub for bathing, ready to assist Feng Yuanyuan.
Sitting in the tub, Feng Yuanyuan’s small face turned red from the steam. Weiyun stood by, expressing concern, “There aren’t any clothes that will fit you for you to wear here. You’ll have to put on the plain clothes from your bundle for now.”
Feng Yuanyuan replied, “It’s okay, plain clothes are fine.”
Weiyun sternly said, “From now on, you’re the princess’s person. Wearing plain clothes would diminish our princess’s splendor.”
Feng Yuanyuan blushed.
Opening her small bundle, Weiyun, ignoring the dagger with a known origin, chose the relatively newer set of clothes among the three.
After tidying up, Weiyun led Feng Yuanyuan to meet the princess.
Princess Huarong hadn’t finished her bath yet, so Feng Yuanyuan took the opportunity to observe the princess’s residence.
With limited education and no reading experience, she felt that this place was luxurious and elegant, probably not much different from the heavenly abode where immortals reside.
After a short while, Princess Huarong emerged, dressed in a new gown after her bath. Her noble and aloof demeanor remained unchanged.
“Bring the food. She will dine with me.”
“Yes.”
Feng Yuanyuan obediently sat at Princess Huarong’s right side, feeling nervous. She focused on her breath, avoiding any unnecessary glances.
Princess Huarong scrutinized Feng Yuanyuan from head to toe, frowned, and instructed another senior maid, Yingyue, “Summon the palace embroiderer here later.”
Yingyue nodded and went outside to instruct the junior maids.
Feng Yuanyuan thought, perhaps the princess wants to have clothes made for her?
She didn’t care about the beauty or age of the clothes, but surrounded by opulence in the princess’s residence, her humble attire might be intolerable.
Another group of maids brought in the meal, and there were eight dishes laid neatly on the table for the two of them.
The aroma was enticing, and Feng Yuanyuan’s stomach growled.
“Go ahead. If you can’t loosen up, there’s no need to come before me in the future,” Princess Huarong casually said as she picked up her chopsticks.
Feng Yuanyuan’s eyelashes trembled. She liked this beautiful princess and didn’t want to be disliked by her.
Alright, let’s eat. This task is not difficult at all!
