The House was Raided in Advance and I moved the Treasury to Escape the Last Days Chapter 29

Chapter 29: The Crown Prince Is Terrified and Kneels to Xie Zhizhi

Xie Zhizhi understood. Now that the Emperor was dead, the court must be in complete disarray. The Crown Prince was, after all, the heir apparent, and barring any unexpected circumstances, he would immediately ascend the throne. But what if there were unexpected events?

If there were, the ministers would have a reason to oppose him.

After all, the Crown Prince was not quite capable of gaining everyone’s approval. Besides the most likely successor, the Crown Prince and the Third Prince, there were two other princes who were younger than the Emperor.

It seemed the Third Prince was trying to use rumors about ghosts and gods to prevent the Crown Prince from ascending the throne.

Based on the storyteller’s previous hints, the common folk were spreading rumors and consulting relatives to confirm them. A few individuals were also fanning the flames, making it easy for people to assume the supernatural explanations.

But none of this concerned Xie Zhizhi; she was simply planning to visit the palace later, just to watch the drama unfold.

For now, breakfast was the priority. Soon, the waiter brought baskets of steaming pastries, meat pies, bird’s nest soup, and shark fin.

The tantalizing aroma made Xie Zhizhi’s mouth water. The three of them eagerly dug into their meal.

News from the teahouse spread quickly. One story became ten, ten became a hundred, and soon the entire city was buzzing.

The General’s Mansion had been raided, a hundred imperial guards mysteriously died, and vast amounts of wealth had vanished. Even the Empress’s palace had been stripped of everything—everything disappeared during the night, and there was a heavy rainstorm that drowned people and swept away several more.

The Xie family had just been exiled, and within a single day, so many ominous things had occurred. What could this mean?

As the stories spread, the phrase “divine punishment” began to circulate.

Some even claimed that the Emperor had died from a strange fire, and if it wasn’t heavenly fire, then what was it?

The situation in the west side of the city grew even more chaotic, with people becoming more irrational. Some began spreading rumors and pushing for civil unrest, with words against the Crown Prince starting to surface.

In the palace, the Crown Prince hadn’t slept a wink all night. Upon seeing the state of the national treasury, he rushed over joyfully but was met with nothing but the burned remains of what used to be the treasury.

His most cherished national treasure was gone, and in that instant, the Crown Prince thought nothing of the throne anymore!

If he ascended, he’d be forced to deal with the problem of a depleted treasury every year!

The treasury was empty, and the one his mother had kept was also missing. Where could he find money to fill such a huge hole?

This morning, the capital had been struck by a violent rainstorm, damaging many government buildings that would now require significant funds to repair.

It was a disaster.

The Crown Prince immediately sealed off all information about the treasury, ensuring that no one would find out about the loss.

From here on, he would have to take things one step at a time.

The day after the fire, when the court convened, all the ministers knew that the Emperor and Empress had passed away. The shock was inevitable.

This all happened so suddenly and mysteriously, and now everyone had their own thoughts. A silent battle for power had begun in the hearts of many.

When the Crown Prince returned to his study, he wasn’t concerned with the rumors circulating in the streets. His mind was filled with how to address the empty treasury.

Meanwhile, Xie Zhizhi quietly arrived at the study, hidden in the space, watching as the Crown Prince leaned on his desk, his face full of worry. His dark circles under his eyes had grown so large that they resembled a panda’s.

Ah, he must be troubled by the state of the treasury.

His expression was quite amusing; his brows furrowed into a shape that resembled a little caterpillar.

Well, let’s make his worries even more intense!

The study was lavishly decorated, with shelves full of books, rare and precious antiques scattered about. Most notably, there were many rare, one-of-a-kind books—unique editions that couldn’t be found anywhere else in the world.

Xie Zhizhi wasted no time and used her spatial abilities to move behind the Crown Prince. She picked up a large fan and directed a blast of cold air toward him.

Outside, the Crown Prince was deep in thought, contemplating how he could raise taxes after ascending the throne to try and cover up the treasury’s shortage. He didn’t expect a chilling breeze to suddenly brush against his back.

He immediately turned around, glaring. “Who’s there?!”

But there was no one in sight. Then, a wind blew from the left side of his neck. He turned to look, but still saw nothing.

His mind began to recall the strange events of yesterday. It seemed the officials from the Imperial History Office had encountered similar phenomena!

Suddenly, his body stiffened, and he called out urgently, “Guard! Guards, come in!”

Two guards rushed in, responding to the Crown Prince’s panicked tone. “Your Highness, what is your command?”

The Crown Prince thought, the more people around, the stronger the yang energy—anything supernatural wouldn’t dare approach. “You two stay there and don’t move. Get all the guards outside to come in!”

A dozen guards rushed in, blocking the door, though they had no idea what the Crown Prince wanted.

They stood in place, waiting.

Suddenly, the Crown Prince noticed that the bookshelf on the left side had disappeared!

Gone!

His body went rigid, his eyes locking on the empty space. He turned to the guards. “Do you see anything missing over there?”

Before the guards could respond, Xie Zhizhi, ever attentive to the Crown Prince’s gaze, made sure to remove the items he focused on, ensuring he felt “special attention.”

After all, the original owner of this body had also received a lot of “special attention” from the Crown Prince.

Soon, the guards also noticed that strange things were vanishing from the study.

“Your Highness… th-th-they’re gone!” one of the guards stammered.

The guards were terrified.

The Crown Prince was nearly in tears, his hands clasped together as he knelt. “Whoever you are, a divine being, I, the Crown Prince of Daxing, humbly welcome you! Please forgive my failure to greet you properly!”
