Faced with this matter, Su Yu followed Wang Jinhe’s lead.
Now, hearing him bring this up, she couldn’t help but feel a sense of helplessness.
“Well, it’s just that I feel she’s always causing trouble for us. If we don’t give her a gift, it might seem quite impolite. So, I thought, why don’t we send a gift to this young lady? What do you think of my idea?” Wang Jinhe explained.
Su Yu, after considering it, nodded in agreement. The idea seemed reasonable.
“You’re right. But what kind of gift do you want to give Gu Xiruo?” Su Yu curiously asked.
Wang Jinhe rubbed her chin. “I’ll go ask my mother if the little clothes she found when she picked me up are still around. Anyway, I don’t plan on going back, so even if they’re gone, it doesn’t matter to me.”
“Are you planning to send the little clothes to irritate her?”
“If she wants to irritate me, I can do the same. Isn’t she worried about me going back? Then I’ll show her the little clothes I wore when they found me. Oh, wait, no, not her—I want to give it to her parents.” Originally, Wang Jinhe had thought of giving it to Gu Xiruo, but now she changed her mind. What’s the point of giving it to Gu Xiruo? She could just keep it to herself.
She could pretend not to know anything.
But it would be different for her parents. Would this couple remember the clothes their daughter wore?
It was truly something to look forward to.
Seeing the smile on Wang Jinhe’s face, Su Yu couldn’t help but feel helpless. She reached out and rubbed Wang Jinhe’s head, comforting her, “People like them aren’t worth your worry and sadness.”
“I’m not sad. I just want to know if they are aware that their daughter has been replaced, and if they still remember the clothes their daughter wore when she was lost. Su Yu, do you think they’ll remember?”
Wang Jinhe looked at Su Yu and couldn’t help but ask.
Su Yu remained silent. In truth, he didn’t know if they would remember.
“Xiao He, not only are you trying to irritate Gu Xiruo, but you’re also testing the Gu family, aren’t you?” Su Yu, while asking Wang Jinhe, had a tone of certainty in his voice.
“Congratulations, you guessed it right. I do have these thoughts. If they still remember, and if they really come looking for me in the future, I’ll give them a good face. Otherwise, they can do whatever they want,” Wang Jinhe said without reservation.
Su Yu looked at Wang Jinhe and knew she wasn’t saying this out of spite but rather with seriousness. He reached out, hugged her, and affectionately said, “Alright, as long as you’re happy.”
The two went to find Gu Shi. After learning about Wang Jinhe’s intentions, Gu Shi gently touched Wang Jinhe’s cheek with a gaze full of tenderness. “Xiao He, I will support whatever you want to do, but remember, don’t do anything that harms yourself.”
“Don’t worry, Mom. These people aren’t worth me doing anything harmful to myself,” Wang Jinhe assured.
If it weren’t for Gu Xiruo causing trouble for her, they wouldn’t have had any interaction. But Gu Xiruo resorted to scheming just to prevent her from going to the capital. Wang Jinhe wasn’t going to let this slide; if someone did something like that, they should bear the consequences.
“Alright, I feel reassured knowing that. Xiao Yu, keep an eye on Xiao He and make sure she doesn’t get hurt,” Gu Shi said. Her daughter had a tough life, and she hoped for a better future for her, free from the current troubles and resentment.
“Don’t worry, Mom. With me by Xiao He’s side, nothing will happen to her. I can assure you of that,” Su Yu earnestly assured Gu.
Gu…
Gu also had the surname Gu, and her demeanor didn’t seem like that of an ordinary village woman. Moreover, when the county magistrate received a message to take care of the Gu family, it raised questions about who this person helping the Gu family really was.
What is the relationship between Gu shi and the Gu family?
Or is it just a coincidence of surnames?
After pondering for a long time, Su Yu still couldn’t figure out what was going on. Wang Jinhe, seeing her silent, curiously asked, “What are you thinking?”
“Hmm? Nothing, let’s go. We’ve got our things, should we get to work now?” Su Yu raised an eyebrow, looking at Wang Jinhe with a teasing expression.
Wang Jinhe nodded and took Su Yu outside.
After the two left, Gu Shi stared at them for a while, then lowered her head and remained silent.
Wang Jinhe found Yuan Bao and asked him to have someone deliver the small clothes to the Gu family, making sure they reached Madam Gu’s hands.
Watching the people around, Wang Jinhe’s lips curled slightly. It was not bad to have someone accompany her in doing mischief; she really liked that feeling.
“What are you looking at?”
“Nothing, I was just thinking about when we’ll get to enjoy the show,” Wang Jinhe said with a smile.
“Very soon.”
Unfortunately, they couldn’t witness it firsthand.
“Well, I’m really looking forward to it. Are you?” Wang Jinhe asked Su Yu.
“Of course.”
While the clothes were being sent to the capital, Wang Jinhe and Su Yu were also busy with other chores at home.
Since it was time to harvest other crops, Wang Jinhe planned to help with the corn. Unexpectedly, she developed an allergy, and her neck broke out in a rash as soon as she touched the leaves.
Seeing this, Gu Shi didn’t dare to let her continue.
“Wang Jinhe, you don’t need to stay here. Su Yu, take Jinhe to see the doctor and get some medicine to apply,” Gu Shi insisted, visibly concerned.
“Okay,” Su Yu said, looking at the rash on Wang Jinhe’s neck with a furrowed brow. If he had known about Wang Jinhe’s allergy, causing the rash upon contact, he would not have let her come over.
Before Wang Jinhe could protest, Su Yu had already pulled her away.
“Does it hurt a lot?” Su Yu asked, watching Wang Jinhe with a furrowed brow on the way back.
“It’s not painful, just a bit itchy,” Wang Jinhe said, unable to resist the urge to scratch.
Before she could scratch, Su Yu intercepted her with a hand gesture, saying, “Don’t use your hands to touch it.”
“Itchy,” Wang Jinhe could endure pain, but not itching. There were times when even Su Yu scratching her lightly made her unable to bear it, let alone this?
“After we see the doctor and apply some medicine, it’ll be fine,” Su Yu said, holding her hand to prevent her from scratching her neck.
Wang Jinhe glared at Su Yu discontentedly but eventually surrendered, obediently refraining from touching it.
They went to see Huang Qi, who diagnosed a simple allergy. He prescribed some ointment and advised against scratching, assuring that it would be fine after a day.
Seeing Su Yu’s anxious demeanor, Huang Qi couldn’t help but roll his eyes. The young master was indeed making a mountain out of a molehill; Jinhe was fine, and it became a problem only after his fuss.
“Young master, Jinhe is really fine. You don’t need to worry,” Huang Qi reassured.
