Chapter 7: Scolding
Shen Yunhe arrived at the office of the performance troupe leader. A man around forty years old was sitting inside. Zhao Anguo, seeing Shen Yunhe storming in with anger, immediately stood up.
“Ah, isn’t this Commander Shen? Please, have a seat!”
Zhao Anguo took out a cup, placed some tea leaves in it, and poured hot water, setting it on the table before sitting down on the couch.
“Old Shen, what’s going on? You’re so worked up. Who upset you?”
Just as Shen Yunhe was about to speak, the door was suddenly flung open with a loud bang. Liu Juan, her eyes red from crying, stood at the door, looking pitiful. Zhao Anguo put down his cup and coldly scolded her.
“Who are you? How dare you barge in like this? Don’t you know to knock and announce yourself before entering?”
Liu Juan, frightened by the leader’s reprimand, immediately straightened up and saluted.
“Report! My name is Liu Juan.”
“Who is your superior?” Zhao Anguo’s stern gaze bore down on her.
Liu Juan was too scared to speak, looking helplessly at Shen Yunhe. He picked up his cup and took a sip of tea, not giving her a single glance. Zhao Anguo slammed his hand on the table.
“I’m asking you a question. Why are you looking at Commander Shen like that?”
Zhao Anguo turned to look at Shen Yunhe, pointing at Liu Juan.
“Do you know her?”
Shen Yunhe frowned deeply, a flash of disdain and disgust in his eyes.
“I don’t know her.”
Liu Juan shook her head in disbelief, tears streaming down her face. Seeing this, Zhao Anguo became even angrier. Damn it, this woman barged into his office and started crying the moment she walked in—did she think he was dead and she had to mourn?
Fuming, he stood up and walked to the door, shouting out.
“Zhang, Zhang, come here!”
The guard, Zhang, rushed up. “Commander, what’s the matter?”
“Go check this woman’s background and get her platoon leader over here!”
“Yes!” Zhang saluted and then looked at the woman.
“Ah! I know this woman, Commander. She’s the beauty of the performance troupe, from the Seventh Platoon, famous. She’s been chasing after Commander Shen, and he’s been annoyed by her. He can’t get rid of her. Everyone in the unit knows her.”
“What!” Zhao Anguo looked at Liu Juan, then at Shen Yunhe.
“So, you came here to complain to me about this?”
Shen Yunhe stood up and walked over to Zhao Anguo.
“Old Zhao, you need to manage your soldiers properly. Don’t just sit around with nothing to do and let people do things that only a thug would do!”
Turning, he walked out. Zhao Anguo was left speechless.
“You… I…”
Seeing Shen Yunhe leave, Liu Juan immediately tried to follow him. Zhao Anguo yelled furiously,
“Stop right there! Did I tell you to leave? You’ve got no discipline at all. How did your platoon leader train you?”
Turning to Zhang, he shouted, “Go get the Seventh Platoon leader here. I need to ask her how she manages her soldiers. If she can’t manage them, she should step aside and let someone more capable take the position!”
Liu Juan’s face went pale upon hearing this. Offending the platoon leader—how could she stay in the Seventh Platoon now?
“Commander, it’s all my fault. It has nothing to do with the platoon leader. I…”
“Shut up. Wait for your platoon leader to come here!”
Liu Juan stood frozen in place, trembling. Her mind was blank. She was done for. After a while, a woman in her twenties ran over and stood at the door.
“Report, Commander. I’m Zhang Yan, the Seventh Platoon leader.”
Zhao Anguo pointed at Liu Juan and questioned Zhang Yan.
“This is one of your soldiers? No discipline, no sense of propriety. How have you trained her? Make sure you give her a proper lesson. If this continues, send her back!”
Zhang Yan shot a fiery glare at Liu Juan before saluting the Commander.
“Yes!”
Zhang Yan led Liu Juan out of the office, her chest tight with anger. It was the first time in nearly ten years of service that she had been scolded by a superior. She blamed Liu Juan. If it weren’t for her pestering Commander Shen and causing this shameful scene, dragging her into this mess, how could there be such a disgraceful woman? It completely reset her view of the world.
Liu Juan lowered her head, afraid to say a word as Zhang Yan glared at her.
Meanwhile, Shen Yunhe had taken half a month off and was on his way back home by train. He needed to clarify the situation about his divorce with Jiang Banyue with his family.
