Chapter 30: Jiang Banyue Gets Hurt
Jiang Banyue handed the children over to the nannies and took the money from home, then followed Gu Qingci to the hospital.
After she left, Xu Jingjing, fearing someone would come after her for responsibility, ran off.
Jiang Banyue was so anxious on the way that she broke out in a sweat. She regretted inviting Xu Jingjing to work at the shop. From the very beginning, she had caused such a huge mess.
Gu Qingci tried to comfort her. “Banyue, don’t worry. Let’s go to the hospital and see how things are. It might not be as serious as we think.”
At the hospital, Jiang Banyue hurried to the front desk to inquire.
“Excuse me, may I ask if there was a boy who came in with a head injury?”
The nurse looked up and replied, “Yes, he’s in the emergency room getting stitches.”
Earlier, an elderly woman had rushed in carrying a boy, shouting, and panicking. The boy’s face was covered in blood, so the nurse had a clear memory of the situation.
“Thank you!”
Jiang Banyue and Gu Qingci headed toward the emergency room. Before they entered, they heard a child crying loudly, along with a familiar voice. Jiang Banyue walked over in confusion.
“Mom, what are you doing here?”
Jiang’s mother, both anxious and angry, grabbed Jiang Banyue’s hand tightly.
“Banyue, Wen Shuo was pushed down by one of the staff in your shop. He hit his head really badly, and it might leave permanent scarring. What am I supposed to tell my son and daughter-in-law?”
Jiang Banyue stood frozen in shock, then turned to look at her nephew on the hospital bed. The doctor was pressing down on him, stitching up the wound. Jiang Qingfeng was not cooperating at all, kicking his legs wildly and screaming.
“I want my mom and dad! Waaahh…!”
Her niece was so frightened that she hid behind Jiang’s mother. Jiang Banyue asked her mother,
“Do Big Brother and Sister-in-law know?”
Jiang’s mother shook her head, leaning on her daughter’s shoulder and crying in pain.
“I’ve been here with the child, how could I have time to make a call? Even if I had, what could I say?”
Jiang Banyue gently pushed Jiang’s mother away. “Mom, I’ll call Big Brother and Sister-in-law. We need to let them know as soon as possible!”
Jiang Banyue walked outside with a heavy heart, while Gu Qingci looked at her with concern. She dialed her brother’s work number from a public phone. After a while, the phone was answered, and Jiang Banyue took a deep breath.
“Hello, I’m looking for Jiang Chenggong.”
“Please hold on.”
Moments later, Jiang Chenggong picked up the phone. “Hello?”
Jiang Banyue heard her brother’s voice, and it felt like something was blocking her throat, preventing her from speaking.
Jiang Chenggong glanced at the receiver. “Hello, is anyone there?”
“Big Brother, it’s me.” Jiang Banyue hurriedly spoke, afraid that her brother might hang up.
“Banyue, what’s wrong?”
“Big Brother, you and Sister-in-law need to come to the hospital right away. Wen Shuo is injured.”
“What! Alright, I’m coming now!”
Jiang Chenggong quickly hung up the phone, called Li Mei, and rushed to the hospital. Upon arriving at the emergency room and seeing the wound on their son’s head, Li Mei collapsed to the floor, weak with shock.
“My son, my son…”
When Jiang Qingfeng saw his parents, he cried loudly, reaching out for them to hold him.
“Mom… Waaah… Mom, hold me… It hurts…”
Mother and son clung to each other, crying nonstop, while Jiang Chenggong stood by in pain, watching his son. Jiang Banyue stood helplessly to the side, not knowing what to do.
Li Mei cried until she had no tears left, then wiped her face and asked Jiang’s mother,
“Mom, what’s going on? How did my son get hurt like this?”
Jiang’s mother looked helplessly at her son and daughter-in-law, apologizing carefully.
“It’s all my fault. I didn’t watch the child properly. I’m so sorry.”
“No, it’s not Mom’s fault.” Jiang Banyue looked at her mother, feeling heartbroken by her pitiful appearance, and her voice caught in her throat.
“It was one of my employees at the store who pushed Qingfeng down. He hit his head on the counter, Big Brother, Sister-in-law, I’m so sorry.”
Jiang Banyue lowered her head, admitting her mistake. Li Mei’s anger flared up, and she released her son from her arms. She walked over to Jiang Banyue and slapped her across the face.
Smack!
“Banyue!”
Jiang’s mother, heartbroken, rushed to hold her daughter, tears falling. She wanted to reprimand her daughter-in-law, but when she saw her injured grandson, she couldn’t find the words.
“Banyue!” Gu Qingci was furious and heartbroken. He looked at Jiang Banyue’s red, swollen face from the slap and quickly turned to find a cold compress.
“Li Mei, what are you doing?” Jiang Chenggong hurriedly pulled Li Mei away.
Li Mei shook him off, furiously pointing at Jiang Banyue. “It’s all because of her that my son is injured!”
“It wasn’t Banyue, it was her employee who pushed him!”
Jiang Chenggong stood in front of Jiang Banyue, furious at Li Mei’s outburst.
“Jiang Chenggong, that’s your son! Your son has such a big gash on his head, and you’re not upset? Instead, you’re protecting the person who hurt your son! Are you even his real father?”
Jiang Chenggong was torn between his sister, whom he had raised, and his wife and son.
Gu Qingci walked in holding a cold pack and gently placed it on Jiang Banyue’s face.
“How are you? Does it hurt?” His eyes flashed with cold fury; his lips tightly pressed together as he tried to contain his raging emotions.
“I’m fine.” Jiang Banyue reached out and took the cold pack, looking at her brother and sister-in-law.
“Li Mei, calm down.”
“My son’s head is seriously injured! How can you expect me to calm down?”
Li Mei couldn’t bear to even look at her son’s wound, it made her feel like she was suffocating. She turned angrily to Jiang Banyue.
“Get out! I don’t want to see you! Get out!”
Jiang Banyue put down the cold pack. “Sister-in-law, I’m sorry. Don’t worry, I’ll cover all the medical expenses for Qingfeng.”
Li Mei, enraged, shoved her, and Jiang Banyue fell to the ground, her head hitting the floor with a loud thud.
“Banyue!” Gu Qingci rushed to her side, and Jiang Chenggong and Jiang’s mother hurried to check on her. Jiang Banyue’s face turned pale from the pain, and she bit her lip hard.
“Banyue, let me take you to see the doctor!”
Gu Qingci picked her up and rushed toward the doctor’s office, Jiang’s mother wiping her tears as she followed. Jiang Chenggong glanced at his son, then stopped. He walked over to Li Mei and raised his hand high.
Li Mei glared at him with fiery eyes. “What? You want to avenge your sister and slap me too? Go ahead, try it!”
“Waaah!” Jiang Qingyue, frightened, hid behind the door and cried loudly. Jiang Chenggong lowered his hand and went to hug his daughter.
“Qingyue, be good, stop crying…”
Jiang Qingfeng lay on the bed, witnessing everything, too scared to speak. Li Mei walked over to her son’s bed and hugged him tightly.
“Mama, it wasn’t Aunt who pushed me. Why did you hit her?”
“You got hurt in your aunt’s shop, so she’s responsible!” Li Mei hugged her son tightly, and when she saw the wound on his head, she wished she could smash Jiang Banyue’s store.
Jiang Qingfeng protested, “Mom, Aunt is very nice. Every time I go there, Aunt gives me cake. This time, Aunt wasn’t home, so I took the cake myself. The worker didn’t know me, that’s why they pushed me.”
