Chapter 19: Even if They Get Married, I Will Take Jiang Yaoyao Back
Wei Changze’s fingers tightened around the script.
He slightly tilted his head and saw Jiang Yaoyao, who was reading the script seriously, her expression unusually focused.
At some point, the little beauty, with her eyes lowered, suddenly raised her eyebrows, a slight furrow appearing between them.
The deeper she read, the more her delicate brows furrowed.
When she finally looked up, the smile that had once been in her eyes was completely gone. She glanced at him, her expression complex, as though she was trying to suppress something.
However, the rejection in her eyes had grown stronger.
Wei Changze cursed his uncle in his mind.
He then forced a smile and said, “The script is well written, don’t you think?”
He emphasized the words “script” to make sure Jiang Yaoyao understood that the story was one thing, but the real world was another.
In the script, the young general betrays the crown princess and only uses her, but he, Wei Changze, had no intention of merely using Jiang Yaoyao. Every time he looked at her, his feelings for her only grew stronger.
Thinking back, since school and his debut, he had never been in a relationship.
But if his romantic interest was Jiang Yaoyao, it wouldn’t be so bad.
When he finished speaking, the little beauty simply fluttered her long eyelashes, ignored him, and turned to change clothes.
Wei Changze felt a bitter frustration rising in his chest.
Holding the script tightly, he looked back at Pei Heng, his eyes devoid of any respect for an elder.
The man sitting next to the director also had a cold gaze, his sharp eyes momentarily flashing with a murderous edge.
In a flash, the two men locked eyes, each face colder than the other, the tension between them palpable, as if sparks were flying in the air.
Gu Jinling rubbed his nose and quickly cleared his throat.
“Alright, Xiao Wei, go take a look at the script and change your clothes.”
Wei Changze had high hopes for this film and held great respect for Gu Jinling, a top-tier director. Moreover, even if Jiang Yaoyao wasn’t the leading lady, he still wanted to land the male lead role.
Based on Gu Jinling’s usual directing skills, this movie was sure to win awards.
He needed such prestigious accolades to support his rise.
Wei Changze pulled his gaze away, nodded at the director, and turned to leave, still holding the script.
As the door closed behind him, Pei Heng changed his sitting posture, crossing his long legs. His fingers, sharp and defined, lightly tapped the table. With his brows furrowed, the air around him seemed to darken.
“Why did you bring him here?”
Gu Jinling, a little guilty, picked up his thermos.
The two families had been close for generations, and although Pei Heng called him “uncle,” there was only a six-year difference between them.
When Pei Heng was a child, he used to play behind him, but now, as he grew older, his thoughts became deeper, and his presence stronger, even surpassing Gu Jinling’s in terms of aura.
Gu Jinling took a sip of tea, stiffening his neck as he replied,
“How would I know, you little brat…”
Glancing around at the people in the room, he lowered his voice,
“How would I know you were stealing someone else’s girlfriend!”
“She’s not anyone else’s.”
The handsome man lowered his eyelashes, hiding the ambition bubbling inside him. His lips curved in a sharp, detached smile, his voice cold and firm,
“She’s mine.”
Noticing no one else was paying attention, Gu Jinling continued to lower his voice,
“Stealing your own nephew’s girlfriend—Pei Xiao Heng, you really are something!”
The man sitting beside him curled his lips into a smirk, his gaze deep and cold, like a wolf slinking through a desert at night, with only his eyes glowing.
“Don’t just say ‘girlfriend.'”
Pei Heng’s voice was low, slightly husky, with each word deliberately pronounced.
“Even if they get married, I will take Jiang Yaoyao back.”
His tone was steady, yet it sent a chill through Gu Jinling’s heart.
Growing up together, Gu Jinling understood this nephew of his quite well.
Pei Heng wasn’t lying.
He was just that kind of person.
Anyone he set his sights on, no matter the cost or the means, he would do anything to claim them for himself.
Despite his appearance—dressed in a suit and shirt, with a calm and refined face—he had a darkness to him, one that could be deceiving.
He was a master at pretending to be polished.
If he ever really dated that little Yaoyao, once his true nature was revealed, wouldn’t it scare the poor girl?
Gu Jinling took another sip of tea.
What a mess.
He was helping this little wolf pup, Pei Heng, steal someone else’s wife.
Gu Jinling shook his head and quickly pulled out his phone, opening an electronic wooden fish app and tapping it rhythmically on the screen.
Pei Heng raised an eyebrow, clearly confused. “?”
Gu Jinling muttered under his breath as he tapped away, “It’s not my fault, I was forced into this. Pei Xiaoheng, that little brat, is the one who isn’t playing fair. All the trouble is on his head…”
Pei Heng didn’t respond.
After a while, Gu Jinling finished tapping on his electronic wooden fish.
Pei Heng’s voice was cool as he spoke.
“Kick Wei Changze out of this movie.”
Gu Jinling had already figured out a countermeasure during that brief pause.
Honestly, from the moment he saw the script, he had thought through all the potential actors for the male lead.
After much consideration, he thought Wei Changze was the most suitable.
Perhaps it was the Pei family bloodline—good-looking on the surface, seeming sunny and proper, yet with a hint of something darker underneath.
Wei Changze would perform well in this role, and by the later stages of the film, his performance would definitely leave a lasting impression on the audience.
Gu Jinling had faith in Wei Changze, and that’s why he wanted to keep him in the role.
He put his phone away and asked slowly:
“Why are you so anxious? Don’t you have confidence in yourself?”
Pei Heng’s eyes darkened as he fixed his sharp gaze on Gu Jinling, almost piercing through him.
“I just want to avoid unnecessary trouble.”
“Uncle, you don’t need to provoke me.”
Gu Jinling scratched his nose, quickly switching to the next line he had prepared.
“Yes, we are close, and it was your script, so naturally, I should follow your advice.”
“But Wei Changze really is a good fit for this role.”
Gu Jinling lowered his voice further as he continued.
“And there’s something you don’t know—your dad specifically came to my father about this. I wasn’t home, but my dad just agreed right away!”
“I have to say, your dad really cares about your stepmother…”
Pei Heng, lounging with his long legs crossed, lazily raised an eyebrow. A subtle gleam passed through his dark eyes.
His lips were tight, and after a long silence, he finally spoke slowly.
“I’m investing in this movie.”
Gu Jinling, afraid he might change his mind, quickly agreed.
“Got it!”
No sooner had the words left his mouth than the door opened again.
Jiang Yaoyao, dressed in a brocade gown with flowing wide sleeves, entered like a fairy descending from the heavens, her cheeks slightly flushed, her eyes misty with a soft glow.
She looked just like a little celestial being sneaking into the mortal world.
Pei Heng’s pitch-black eyes looked her way, and before he could even smile, he saw Wei Changze, in a black athletic outfit, his hair pulled up high, nagging at Jiang Yaoyao.
“Don’t be mad, Yaoyao…”
