The Moon Island
The Moon Island: Chapter 26

26. You Can Offend Me Too.

Spring is the plum rain season on Moon Island.

Continuous rain fell throughout the night, and the waves incessantly crashed against the coast. The rising tide submerged the rocks, and the wind rushed through the low eaves. The air was filled with moisture.

Raindrops streaked across the clean glass windows, forming long, slender rain lines. Looking at the world through the dense fog, everything seemed indistinct.

Qin Zhaoyi felt like her whole body was on fire, yet also cold.

In the hazy fog, she seemed to be dreaming.

Dreaming of her deceased grandfather, and her brother who fell into the water. She dreamed of Zhong Ling shaking her body, and even dreamed of kissing Luo Yue’s collarbone.

Various people appeared and disappeared in her dream, all fading away in the thick fog.

She stood still, not knowing which direction to go. Suddenly, the dense fog dispersed, and she slowly opened her eyes.

The sound of rain hitting the window frames drowned out the waves. She looked outside in confusion.

Moon Island was shrouded in thick fog, with visibility only extending to the courtyard gate.

Her head felt as if it had been struck by a heavy object, and the scenes from her dream remained vivid in her mind. All the various emotions rushed in.

Qin Zhaoyi pressed her temples, attempting to drive away the unpleasant memories.

“Awake?” a gentle voice came from the doorway.

Qin Zhaoyi turned her neck slowly, supporting herself with one hand as she looked toward the entrance. There, she saw Luo Yue standing with a tray in hand.

Qin Zhaoyi furrowed her brow, only now realizing that she was currently wearing different pajamas and lying in bed.

Her back was still damp with residual sweat, and even her forehead felt warm.

“My clothes…” Qin Zhaoyi furrowed her brow, “Did you change them?”
Luo Yue placed the tray on the bedside table and countered, “Whose do you wish it was?”

Qin Zhaoyi: “…”

Just waking up, her mind wasn’t working that fast. Seeing that Luo Yue still spoke the same way, she suddenly felt a bit displeased. Her tone became more assertive, “Can’t you just answer whether it is or isn’t?”

“Cheng Shijing changed them,” Luo Yue replied with an equally displeased tone.

Qin Zhaoyi: “…”

An awkward silence filled the quiet air.

Luo Yue reached out to touch Qin Zhaoyi’s forehead, but Qin Zhaoyi instinctively moved away.

Luo Yue’s hand hung in the air, fingers curling a few times before she casually withdrew her hand, pretending as if nothing happened, “Still having a fever?”

Avoiding the previous matter, she directly switched to another topic.

Qin Zhaoyi pressed her temples, frowning at the pajamas she was wearing, “Who changed my clothes?”

It couldn’t have been Cheng Shijing.

Luo Yue wouldn’t let a man change her clothes.

So, the answer was obvious.

Qin Zhaoyi just wanted Luo Yue to admit it. She disliked Luo Yue’s evasive way of speaking.

“What do you think?” Luo Yue remained unchanged.

Qin Zhaoyi pursed her lips, “I fainted, I don’t remember.”

Luo Yue: “…So you don’t remember anything from last night?”

Qin Zhaoyi tried hard to recall, but ultimately failed. Her memory froze at entering the house password while dragging her suitcase, falling on the sofa after entering the house, and attempting to open the window for ventilation due to feeling too hot, leaning against the wall.

After that… it seemed like she had a dream.

A dream about Luo Yue, dreaming that even in the dream, she was reluctant to get close to her.

…But that was just a dream.

After a moment of silence, Qin Zhaoyi attempted to change the topic, “When did you arrive?”

Luo Yue sat on the edge of the bed, picked up a bowl, stirred the white porridge inside with a spoon. The steaming hot porridge looked soft and glutinous, just like the Luo Yue she first met.

However, the current Luo Yue carried a thorn, and Qin Zhaoyi felt that she was angry.

But she didn’t know why she was angry.

If anyone should be angry, it should be herself.

Subjected to the cold shoulder, chilled by the cold wind, fell ill with a fever, came alone to a house that had been empty for a long time, and almost died here.

What did Luo Yue have to be angry about?

“Eat something.” Luo Yue didn’t respond to her words, just handed the porridge to her lips.

Qin Zhaoyi stared at her intently, her gaze somewhat dark.

After a long standoff, Luo Yue finally answered, “I came last night.”

“When?” Qin Zhaoyi asked.

Luo Yue hesitated slightly, “Last night.”

Saying this was as good as not saying anything.

This tone was really not good.

Qin Zhaoyi frowned even tighter. Miss Qin, who had been accustomed to having someone pick stars for her from a young age, had never experienced such grievances.

Normally, she was the one who left others unable to say a word, but no one had been so presumptuous in front of Miss Qin.

“I’m asking what time.” Qin Zhaoyi asked patiently.

Luo Yue’s hand was tired, and seeing her looking for trouble here, she was too lazy to serve her. She put the bowl back in the tray, making a not-so-light sound, her lips forming a straight line, and said in a cold voice, “Will it make a difference if I tell you? Or do you remember?”

Clearly, she couldn’t remember what she herself had been through.

One sentence left Qin Zhaoyi speechless.

Indeed, she couldn’t remember.

Luo Yue had spent the entire night without sleep, and her heart felt as if it had been shattered by the fine raindrops.

In the morning, she quickly tidied up the long uninhabited house, cooked soft white porridge for the patient, and took care of everything.

Unexpectedly, after Qin Zhaoyi woke up, she still had that vigilant look. Even the best temperaments could be worn down.

After a while, Luo Yue couldn’t stand the oppressive atmosphere in the room and stood up to leave.

Unexpectedly, as soon as she took a step, her wrist was grabbed from behind.

Luo Yue’s perspective was higher, and unintentionally looking over, she saw Qin Zhaoyi’s awkward expression.

Her fingertips were still a bit cold, and the temperature had dropped sharply. Even though she had found a thick blanket for her, it still couldn’t withstand the cold wind that came with this cold wave.

Luo Yue raised an eyebrow, “What are you doing?”

“I just wanted to ask you something.” Qin Zhaoyi slowed down her voice and sounded a bit aggrieved, “Did you change my clothes?”

Luo Yue: “Yes.”

Qin Zhaoyi breathed a sigh of relief, “Oh.”

Luo Yue: “…”

Luo Yue couldn’t figure out her intentions for a while.

This was a very obvious matter.

Could there be anyone else on this island who would change her clothes?

Qin Zhaoyi glanced at the white porridge, gradually pulling her thoughts back, and her anxious mood slowly calmed down.

“Are you angry?” Qin Zhaoyi asked.

Luo Yue: “?”

In the room, the sound of each other’s breathing was clearly audible.

Luo Yue was angered yet amused by her somewhat cautious and solemn tone.

Clearly, just a moment ago, she woke up full of vigilance, arrogant, and now she seemed to be bullied, pretending to be pitiful.

“Is it that obvious?” Luo Yue asked.

Qin Zhaoyi nodded, “Yes.”

“Just now, I thought you asked Cheng Shijing to change my clothes for me.” Qin Zhaoyi explained, “So my tone wasn’t good.”

For Miss Qin, who had always been proud, this was the biggest concession she had made.

Luo Yue let out a sigh and replied unkindly, “Oh.”

After saying that, she planned to leave, but her wrist was tightly grabbed by Qin Zhaoyi.

“Are you still leaving?” Qin Zhaoyi asked.

Luo Yue replied coldly, “What if I am?”

Compared to the previous Luo Yue, she was like a completely different person.

Qin Zhaoyi frowned tightly, not knowing where she had offended her.

“You…” Qin Zhaoyi hesitated and asked, “Why are you angry?”

Facing her question, Luo Yue chuckled, with a hint of sarcasm, “What do you think?”

It was still a familiar rhetorical question.

When Qin Zhaoyi subconsciously considered a question, she usually had to fiddle with something. Usually, when she was writing, she would put a pen aside and fiddle with the pen or the pen barrel.

Now, when she was questioned by Luo Yue, she subconsciously rubbed the skin on Luo Yue’s wrist as she thought.

Goosebumps quickly appeared on Luo Yue’s arm, and she immediately pulled her wrist out forcefully, leaving a conspicuous red mark around it.

Qin Zhaoyi was taken aback but realized what she had done, “Sorry.”

Luo Yue shook her hand lightly, “I have something to do, so I’ll leave first.”

After saying that, she left completely, leaving Qin Zhaoyi sitting on the bed in confusion.

She raised her hand to touch her forehead. The fever had subsided, but she still felt a bit sweaty.

Obviously, Luo Yue was angry.

But—what was she angry about?

Qin Zhaoyi couldn’t figure it out.

After leaving the room, Luo Yue received a message from Cheng Shijing: [Is that one awake?]

Luo Yue was speechless about Cheng Shijing’s way of addressing Qin Zhaoyi: [Doesn’t she have a name?]

Cheng Shijing: [I know.]

Luo Yue: [Then why do you say it like that?]

Cheng Shijing paused for two seconds before replying: [Did you guys have a fight?]

Luo Yue: [With whom?]

Cheng Shijing sent a voice message with the continuous sound of rain in the background, “Certainly not with me.”

Luo Yue: […]

Luo Yue didn’t want to dwell on this question, so she simply explained Qin Zhaoyi’s situation and told Cheng Shijing that she would probably need intravenous fluids for the whole day. She asked him to come after work to help Qin Zhaoyi and bring some antibiotics with him.

Cheng Shijing responded with an “OK” emoji.

Luo Yue put away her phone. Her head felt a bit heavy, and before she could calm her emotions, Cheng Shijing sent another message: [This is also good.]

A sentence without context.

Luo Yue: [What are you saying?]

Through the screen, Cheng Shijing could sense Luo Yue’s anger.

Luo Yue had always been obedient, from childhood to adulthood.

Even when she was abandoned by her father on Moon Island, she never complained about him.

Over the years, she had never had any conflicts with anyone, let alone getting angry.

Cheng Shijing: [Even fairies need to experience the mortal world occasionally, to live with a bit of human touch.]

Cheng Shijing: [If she made you angry, should I be a bit harsher when I give her injections today?]

Cheng Shijing: [Should I pretend not to find the blood vessels, poke a few more needles?]

Luo Yue: […Are you being childish?]

Cheng Shijing: [I’m helping you vent.]

Luo Yue: [Don’t bully her.]

Cheng Shijing sent a “tsk tsk” expression, then didn’t reply anymore.

Luo Yue stared at Cheng Shijing’s words, contemplating deeply.

She was indeed angry, but when talking to Qin Zhaoyi, there was a bit of acting involved.

She was angry that Qin Zhaoyi left without a word, angry that Qin Zhaoyi didn’t take her own health seriously.

Other than that, she didn’t really care.

Sitting in the living room, just as her emotions were calming down, the door to the room was opened.

Qin Zhaoyi came out holding the tray and walked to the sofa, pretending not to understand, she asked, “Where should I put it?”

Luo Yue coldly replied, “In the kitchen.”

Qin Zhaoyi took the tray away and asked, “Didn’t you go to school today?”

“The rain is too heavy,” Luo Yue said, “Today is a day off.”

Qin Zhaoyi nodded, unable to find any topic but wanting to talk to Luo Yue.

Holding a cushion, Luo Yue sat there expressionless, as if lost in thought.

Qin Zhaoyi always felt that there was something between her and Luo Yue.

Clearly, she asked questions, and Luo Yue would answer.

“Do you have anything else to do today?” Qin Zhaoyi asked.

Luo Yue immediately got up, “Yes, I have something to do.”

Qin Zhaoyi: “…”

Qin Zhaoyi’s expression changed instantly; she regretted bringing up this topic with Luo Yue.

Luo Yue left without any hesitation, walking into the rain without an umbrella.

Qin Zhaoyi stood at the door, the cold wind penetrating her body along the texture of her skin, but she couldn’t feel the cold.

She wanted to shout after Luo Yue, but she had already returned to the neighboring house.

Qin Zhaoyi spent the afternoon in the living room, and coincidentally, Zhong Ling called her.

“Consider me dead,” Zhong Ling’s first words after answering the call were, “Consider me dead after getting drunk.”

Qin Zhaoyi, still trapped in Luo Yue’s emotional trap, couldn’t spare the attention for Zhong Ling and just responded half-heartedly.

Zhong Ling couldn’t stop talking, “I shouldn’t have dated her in the first place. That slag woman flirted with me, slept with me, and then didn’t take responsibility. Straight woman pretending to be a lesbian, heavenly thunder strike her. F*ck, if I had known, I wouldn’t have gone to that bar. Then I wouldn’t have met her, and I wouldn’t be so miserable. Well, she has abs and good stamina. I didn’t lose anything sleeping with her… F*ck.”

“Wait, if I see her again one day, I’ll make her regret meeting me in this life.” Zhong Ling muttered, “Qin Zhaoyi, if I get drunk in the future, be sure to turn off my phone. I’m afraid I’ll have no self-respect and call her again.”

“What did I do wrong?” Qin Zhaoyi asked abruptly.

Zhong Ling, about to complain, suddenly stopped and asked blankly, “What did you do wrong?”

“I don’t know,” Qin Zhaoyi said.

If only she knew what she did wrong…

Well, she couldn’t bring herself to apologize for such a thing.

“One day I will go to Moon Island.” Zhong Ling shifted the topic back to herself, “I want to see how this place raises such unfaithful scum.”

“Do you think I’ll be forgiven if I apologize?” Qin Zhaoyi asked, “How should I apologize?”

“I really don’t understand. It’s been so long, why can’t I forget her?” Zhong Ling said.

Qin Zhaoyi frowned, “It’s indeed hard to forget. She seems really angry.”

Zhong Ling sighed, “The key is that last night I called her college roommate… Damn, I’m so useless.”

Qin Zhaoyi hesitated, “Wouldn’t it be better to apologize over the phone? But I really don’t know where I went wrong. Clearly, I’m the one being ignored.”

“That’s right. At that time, she was ignoring me.” Zhong Ling complained, “Their Police Academy was busy, while our Film Directing Department had nothing to do. I stayed up late editing just to free up time to eat and sleep with her. But every time I looked for her, she ignored me.”

Qin Zhaoyi finally realized the problem and said after a few seconds of silence, “You still talk about your ex all the time”

Zhong Ling, still dissatisfied, asked, “Aren’t you talking about your own affairs?”

Qin Zhaoyi: “…”

Qin Zhaoyi hung up the phone directly.

After a while, Zhong Ling sent a message on WeChat: [Don’t rush to apologize. Figure out the whole story first.]

Qin Zhaoyi: [She changed my clothes for me last night.]

Qin Zhaoyi: [Is this considered an invasion?]

Zhong Ling: [Damn, this is justice in the straight girl’s world.]

Qin Zhaoyi: [But… she’s into girls.]

Zhong Ling: [What about you? Did you also come out like me?]

Qin Zhaoyi’s fingertips hovered over the screen, not knowing how to reply.

After a long time, Qin Zhaoyi replied: [I’m not sure.]

Seeing her becoming serious, Zhong Ling, unlike before, advised her, [Think about it more.]

Zhong Ling: [Is your interest in her a passing fancy or indispensable?]

Zhong Ling: [Don’t act impulsively.]

Qin Zhaoyi replied: [Not acting impulsively. I’m calm now.]

Zhong Ling sent an eye-rolling emoji: [Darling, I can see it all over your face, ‘I want to date this girl, nothing in the world can stop us, we are true love.’]

Qin Zhaoyi: [Is it that obvious?]

Zhong Ling: [Just by the fact that Miss Qin, who doesn’t even know what she did wrong, is thinking about apologizing, I feel like you’re being controlled.]

Qin Zhaoyi: […]

That’s not entirely wrong.

But…

Qin Zhaoyi replied: [She’s angry.]

Zhong Ling: [I’ve been angry with you so many times, but I haven’t seen you apologize to me once!]

Qin Zhaoyi: [It’s different.]

Zhong Ling was so angry that she sent a voice message: “What’s different? Is she more important to you than I am? Qin Zhaoyi, you’re in the late stage of love-brain.”

After pondering for a while, Qin Zhaoyi replied somewhat uncertainly: “She’s like a capricious wind; I don’t know when she will disappear, so…”

The voice message abruptly stopped here. She added: [Forget it, I’ll figure it out myself.]

Sometimes working in isolation might not be a bad thing.

Zhong Ling, who had been gossiping halfway, felt like she was being scratched by something.

But there was nothing she could do, so she advised as someone who had been through this: [You can start a relationship, but don’t come out first. Sort everything out when it’s stable.]

However, Qin Zhaoyi was thinking about what to do next.

So—she wanted to use any means to keep Luo Yue.

Thus, bowing down, apologizing, admitting mistakes—all were on the table.

Realizing this, Qin Zhaoyi felt a growing sense of discomfort in her heart.

She kind of looked down on herself for it.

The remaining arrogance was still there but was gradually eroded in front of Luo Yue.

Yet, she accepted it willingly.

After a lethargic afternoon of doing nothing, Qin Zhaoyi felt somewhat fatigued. The signals of exhaustion from her body, not fully recovered yet, reminded her as she lay on the sofa and dozed off.

The drizzling rain gradually stopped, and the doorbell woke Qin Zhaoyi up.

She stood up, pressed her temples, dragged her somewhat tired body to open the door.

As she walked to the door, her steps felt a bit floaty, almost stumbling. She reached out and grabbed the wall for support. The cool touch of the wall provided some comfort at this moment. She opened the door with one hand, her body off balance, leaning against the wall.

The cold wind swept over her body, sending a chill straight into her mind.

It carried some unfamiliar memories.

“Luo Yue, come over and hug me.”

“Luo Yue, why don’t you listen to me in my dreams?”

“I want to kiss you, and I also want to have s*x with you.”

“Is this offensive? I want to be even more offensive.”

“After all, this is my dream.”

“How about a bite? Where should I bite? The collarbone?”

“Is this offensive enough? I unbuttoned one of your buttons with my teeth.”

“Your waist is so slender.”

All the memories from last night flooded back into her mind. The coldness on her back and the warmth in front of her made her feel like she was in a world of ice and fire.

Those offensive words, those offensive actions… seemed not to be a dream.

But later, all she did was reach out and unbutton Luo Yue’s clothes, and then she fainted.

Before fainting, Luo Yue still held her hand and asked, “Can you do it?”

She bit Luo Yue’s earlobe and said, “If not, then you do it.”

Luo Yue chuckled, “Are you trying to turn me into a female mummy?”

She spoke especially frivolously in matters like this, completely at odds with her gentle face, yet possessed a wild beauty.

It was tempting to conquer, but also desired to be conquered.

Cheng Shijing came to administer an IV for Qin Zhaoyi. However, upon entering, he found Qin Zhaoyi leaning against the wall in a daze, her furrowed brows deepening.

“Still having a fever?” Cheng Shijing took out a thermometer. “Let me check your temperature first.”

Qin Zhaoyi was still immersed in her own memories, completely ignoring him.

Cheng Shijing said coldly, “Then let’s measure your blood pressure.”

Qin Zhaoyi still showed no reaction.

Cheng Shijing reached out to wave in front of her eyes, but his hand was grabbed and held behind her by Qin Zhaoyi.

Even the usually refined Cheng Shijing couldn’t help but curse, “F*ck.”

“I have something to do,” Qin Zhaoyi said, releasing his hand, turning around, and running into the rain. Her footsteps splashed the rainwater across the courtyard.

Like a gust of wind.

After suffering a severe blow, Cheng Shijing shook his wrist but didn’t care about his own wound. He hurriedly sent a message to Luo Yue: [That person in your home has gone crazy.]

Luo Yue quickly replied: [? Speak properly.]

Cheng Shijing: [Qin Zhaoyi, the crazy one, ran to your house.]

Just as Luo Yue finished reading the message, the door was pushed open.

The drizzle lightly dampened Qin Zhaoyi’s hair. She was wearing loose black pajamas, and the baggy clothes made her appear even thinner.

Luo Yue put away her phone and calmly observed her.

Qin Zhaoyi closed the door, leaning against it, hands behind her back, with a slight dampness on her palms.

For a while, no one spoke.

In the quiet air, only the faint sound of Qin Zhaoyi’s breathing could be heard.

After a long time, Luo Yue asked in a low voice, “What’s the matter?”

But her voice overlapped with Qin Zhaoyi’s: “Last night, I…”

Luo Yue stared at her seriously, her voice rising slightly, “Yes?”

“Last night, I had a fever,” Qin Zhaoyi explained cautiously, “so I offended you.”

Luo Yue chuckled softly, “It seems you remember everything now.”

Qin Zhaoyi dared not miss any subtle expressions on her face.

Luo Yue looked at her, took a few steps forward, maintaining a distance of one step, and said at the right moment, “Do you need to apologize for that now?”

Qin Zhaoyi asked in return, “Are you angry because of that?”

Luo Yue stared at her directly, without answering for a moment.

Qin Zhaoyi swallowed nervously, reached out to pull down Luo Yue’s collar.

After returning home, Luo Yue changed into a light-colored sweatshirt. As she pulled it down, a bite mark was revealed.

Luo Yue’s gaze changed slightly, but she chuckled softly with lowered brows and eyes, “What are you doing? Admiring your masterpiece?”

Qin Zhaoyi’s fingertip gently traced the bite mark, and she asked in a low voice, “Does it hurt?”

“Are you asking me to bite you back?” Luo Yue raised her eyes slightly.

Qin Zhaoyi remained silent. Luo Yue leaned forward a bit, and the warm breath was expelled near Qin Zhaoyi’s ear.

Luo Yue said, “If you know it’s offensive, don’t mention it again.”

Qin Zhaoyi licked her slightly dry lips, tiptoed slightly, raising her height a bit more than Luo Yue’s.

Qin Zhaoyi said, “You can also offend me.”

She held her breath, “I allow it.”
