Zhou Wen suddenly coughed.
Princess Huarong glanced at him and decided not to say anything.
Weiyun and Yingyue tactfully moved to Zhou Wen’s side, indicating for Feng Yuanyuan to continue with the family introduction.
Feng Yuanyuan knelt down and, following Weiyun’s lip movements, respectfully said, “Father, please have some tea.”
For children, the identity of a mother is inherently closer than that of a father. Coupled with Princess Huarong’s kindness towards Feng Yuanyuan, she was more excited when acknowledging her as her mother, but she was calmer when it came to Zhou Wen, as if this father was just an additional relative that came with her new mother.
Zhou Wen didn’t immediately accept the tea. Instead, he smiled at Feng Yuanyuan and said, “Call me Dad,’ it’s more intimate.”
One can call someone “Father” for a lifetime, but not necessarily “Dad.”
Feng Yuanyuan instinctively looked at Weiyun.
Weiyun then looked at their princess.
Princess Huarong remained expressionless.
Before Weiyun could figure out the princess’s thoughts, Zhou Wen picked up the tea bowl and drank the tea offered during the acknowledgment ceremony.
“I’m tired, and I’ll leave the rest to the prince.”
It seemed that even with a daughter, there wouldn’t be much change in their lives. Princess Huarong returned to her inner chamber, her enthusiasm diminished.
Feng Yuanyuan felt at a loss.
Zhou Wen held her hand and smiled, saying, “Now that you’ve acknowledged your parents, you also need to acknowledge your uncle and aunt. Let’s go, they are waiting ahead.”
Feng Yuanyuan obediently followed him, while Weiyun and Yingyue exchanged a glance and followed behind.
Passing through the long corridor, Feng Yuanyuan once again arrived at the main courtyard of Wang Mansion, where Zhou Wen resided.
Voices could be heard from the main hall, indicating that it was the second young master’s family.
As she approached the door and looked inside, Feng Yuanyuan first saw a young couple. The man, dressed in a brocade robe, had a face that resembled Zhou Wen by about fifty or sixty percent, but he had sword-like eyebrows and piercing eyes, exuding a strong aura. The second madam, Qiao, had a round and plump face, with a vermilion birthmark at the center of her brow. Her figure was fuller and more enchanting than the average woman, appearing dignified and wealthy.
Standing beside the couple were a pair of brothers who were as beautiful as orchids and jade. The shorter one stared straight at her.
Feng Yuanyuan couldn’t help but grip Zhou Wen’s hand tightly.
A young girl’s emotions were displayed in her every move. Just from this morning’s observations, Zhou Wen already believed that she had never received any deliberate education from someone with ulterior motives.
“Big brother, is this the child?” Zhou Du squinted slightly as he scrutinized Feng Yuanyuan, as if trying to see through her inner thoughts.
Zhou Wen sat down on a chair, pulling Feng Yuanyuan to his side, and solemnly addressed his younger brother’s family, “Just now, Princess and I have adopted Yuanyuan as our daughter. The princess will soon write a letter to the capital to request the title of County Princess for Yuanyuan.”
Zhou Du and Qiao were both stunned.
In the morning, Big Brother only sent word to acknowledge Feng Yuanyuan as their adopted daughter and asked them to come to acknowledge her. They did not expect Princess Huarong to attach such importance to this child, even planning to request the title of County Princess for her.
“Yuanyuan, this is your second uncle, and this is your second aunt.”
Zhou Wen encouraged Feng Yuanyuan to step forward.
Feng Yuanyuan continued to greet the two unfamiliar elders.
Zhou Du was still pondering her true origins, while Qiao, in an unusual move, gently touched Feng Yuanyuan’s head and smiled, “So your name is Yuanyuan, and you’re really beautiful. Here, this is a gift from your aunt.”
With that, Qiao took out a pair of brightly colored jade bracelets from her sleeve and gently put them on Feng Yuanyuan’s slender wrists.
Regardless of Feng Yuanyuan’s background, she was Princess Huarong’s adopted daughter, and she had to give face to Princess Huarong!
Zhou Du’s news had been rushed, and Qiao didn’t have time to pick out a gift from the jewelry store, so she took out this pair of jade bracelets that she had worn as a child from the storeroom.
Looking at the pair of bracelets, Qiao’s eyes showed a hint of reluctance.
After all, these were her beloved possessions from her childhood, originally intended to be passed down to her own daughter. Unfortunately, after many years of marriage, she had yet to have a daughter.
“Thank you, Aunt.”
With such expensive bracelets, Feng Yuanyuan’s arms felt stiff, and she only accepted them after receiving a signal from Weiyun.
Qiao smiled and pulled one of her sons closer.
“This is your eldest brother, and this is your second brother.”
Feng Yuanyuan looked at the two boys and quietly acknowledged them as her brothers.
Zhou Ling smiled, while Zhou Jiao had no restraint and looked at her, asking, “Where did you come from?”
Feng Yuanyuan didn’t answer. Weiyun had made it clear that she should not reveal her true origins to anyone.
Qiao playfully poked Zhou Jiao’s head, “Mind your own business. She’s just your sister, so why do you care so much!”
Zhou Jiao saw his uncle and looked over, pursing his lips without saying a word.
After the kinship recognition was over, Zhou Wen and Zhou Du had to go to the military camp, while Weiyun took Feng Yuanyuan back to Fengyi Hall to meet Princess Huarong again.
Princess Huarong had no experience in raising a seven-year-old child.
She asked Feng Yuanyuan, “Have you read books? Do you recognize characters?”
Feng Yuanyuan shyly shook her head.
She only recognized some characters on the signs of shops in the county town. She would first hear the name of the shop and then match the characters one by one, such as “Chen Ji” and “Songhe Inn.”
Princess Huarong frowned, paused for a moment, and said to Weiyun, “Send her to the Wangfu Academy to study with the two children from the second courtyard.”
Weiyun complied and led Feng Yuanyuan to take her leave.
On the way, Weiyun was afraid that Feng Yuanyuan would feel the princess was too indifferent, so she explained, “All children need to study. When the princess was your age, she was already proficient in music, chess, calligraphy, and painting. Other princesses couldn’t compare to her.”
Feng Yuanyuan looked at her with admiration and made up her mind. She, too, would study hard and not let down the princess’s care and cultivation!
After walking for more than a quarter of an hour, the two arrived at Moxuan, where Zhou Ling and Zhou Jiao studied.
The brothers were taught by a local scholar named Xu Hong, who was over fifty years old, wearing a black Daoist robe, exuding a bit of an ethereal charm.
Seeing Feng Yuanyuan, Xu Hong stroked his beard and asked, “You’re seven years old. What books have you read?”
Feng Yuanyuan blushed and said, “I haven’t read anything.”
Xu Hong frowned displeasedly. He had taught so many students, and most of them started their enlightenment education at the age of three or four. This was the first time he encountered such a situation.
Weiyun glared at him.
Xu Hong thought of Princess Huarong, who had eyes in the sky. He dared not look down on Feng Yuanyuan, fearing he might face the princess’s wrath.
So, Xu Hong smiled kindly and accepted a new student.
