Shang Xinglu had stayed in the nursing home for over a month, and was almost fully recovered.
Although she was still reluctant to go out, she wasn’t as resistant as before.
The divorce between Lin Heng and Shang Xinglu had been scheduled, and the two were officially separated.
Shang Xinglu had been living in the house in Shanhai Guan, so she continued to stay there for now, while Lin Heng had sent people to remove the items he needed.
However, as for the divorce, except for the people handling it around them, both of them had maintained a tacit silence about it to the outside world.
The day Shang Xinglu was discharged, her close friends had specifically booked a private room outside to celebrate her homecoming and ward off bad luck.
Her friends had originally thought she wouldn’t come, considering that during her hospital stay, she wasn’t even allowed visitors, and the security was extremely tight.
Even the police investigation had been so strict, they practically had to go through multiple layers of checks.
The whole setup was intimidating, whether you looked at it from up close or far away.
To their surprise, Shang Xinglu actually showed up.
She pushed open the door to the room with a calm face, wearing comfortable, soft light-colored clothes. She had lost a little weight, and there was little expression on her face.
Shi Rui had already prepared a few words for the occasion.
She had even made sure to have a brazier set up in the hotel, despite it not allowing such things.
Though it seemed outdated and superstitious, at this moment, wasn’t it just asking for peace and health in a very old-fashioned way?
But when she saw Shang Xinglu, she couldn’t say anything. A surge of emotion welled up, and Shi Rui burst into tears.
Shang Xinglu stood there, stunned.
“Eh, wait a minute, why are you crying? Didn’t you tell me on the phone that today is a big happy day?” Shang Xinglu asked.
Shi Rui was crying so hard that she couldn’t catch her breath. Surprisingly, her makeup only lost a layer of highlighter and didn’t smear much, so her tears gave her a pear blossom after the rain effect.
Shi Rui said, “Today… today, just do whatever you want! Really!”
The crying atmosphere was contagious. As Shi Rui cried, the others joined in as well.
Shang Xinglu stood still.
“Uh, this… this… is it…” She buried her face, started sobbing, but without tears.
Xue Shaoying pulled her into an embrace, patting her back, saying, “Don’t hold it in, cry it out if you need to.”
Shang Xinglu buried her face in Xue Shaoying’s arms.
She tried to gather herself for a moment.
…But it didn’t work, she couldn’t cry.
She was fine now, Lin Heng was fine, whether the past events were resolved or not, she didn’t know, and she didn’t need to know.
Looking at it that way, there didn’t seem to be much worth crying about.
The lost fat would eventually come back, right?
Usually, these wealthy ladies would celebrate losing two pounds with a grand feast and showers of praise for their nutritionists and personal trainers. But now, they were crying so intensely over her losing a bit of weight.
She tried again.
Still nothing.
However, Xue Shaoying was very maternal, comforting Shang Xinglu in her arms.
Shang Xinglu snuggled closer.
“!!!*&!#…”
Shang Xinglu mumbled something, but Xue Shaoying didn’t catch it.
The other girls had also stopped crying, and Xue Shaoying released Shang Xinglu. Just then, a stream of nosebleed slowly ran down Shang Xinglu’s flushed face.
“Paper! Paper!”
Everyone scrambled to help.
Shang Xinglu wiped her nose and said, “Sister, your chest, it’s really… wow!”
Xue Shaoying: “…”
Shi Rui: “…”
The others: “…”
The girls angrily stood up, “What’s wrong with you?!”
But when the word “die” was mentioned, they immediately quieted down, and no one spoke.
Shang Xinglu really disliked this silence.
She said, “You guys are so good at reading the atmosphere, it’s making me feel embarrassed. Actually, I’m fine, it’s just that things were a bit serious, so the security was really strict before. But now, I have no aftereffects or psychological trauma. If I did, they wouldn’t let me out of the hospital.”
“I was just scared, didn’t want to see anyone, but now I’m fine. And I’m also discussing divorce with Lin Heng, so it’s really none of my business anymore.”
“Well, it’s good that you’re fine. That’s what matters.”
“Sigh, now I truly understand, peace is more important than anything else.”
“It’s okay to be afraid of seeing people, we’ll take it slow…”
“And what about Lin Heng…” Shi Rui finally snapped out of her confusion and suddenly raised her voice, “What happened between you and Lin Heng?! Divorce??”
Shang Xinglu nodded. “Mm.”
After all, this was something everyone would know sooner or later.
Shi Rui couldn’t believe it. “Why? Did he think you went crazy after staying in the nursing home for over a month and gave up on you? But if you’ve been crazy for a while, why divorce now?”
Shang Xinglu: “…”
Shang Xinglu slammed the table, “Who’s crazy?! I’m perfectly clever!”
Shi Rui shot back, “If you’re so clever, then why are you getting a divorce?!”
“Alright, alright, why are you two arguing here?” Xue Shaoying stepped in and separated them, “We’re celebrating Louise’s discharge, a joyful event, don’t fight, no tearing each other apart.”
Shi Rui said, “I just… feel sorry!”
Xue Shaoying patted Shang Xinglu’s shoulder, saying seriously, “Louise, to be honest, this is a big deal. Don’t make a decision you’ll regret in a moment of impulse.”
Shang Xinglu didn’t respond.
She could consider it impulsive, or she could consider it a long-planned decision.
But no matter which emotion was at play, Shang Xinglu couldn’t tell anyone.
This was no longer a matter of several billion.
She had just realized that for a long time, this wasn’t even about dividing money in a divorce. When she made up her mind, she never even considered money.
She was just afraid.
Afraid of pain, of exhaustion, afraid of things going wrong, afraid of Lin Heng going wrong, and even more afraid of the anxious version of herself who worried about Lin Heng.
Shang Xinglu felt that something was very wrong.
“Why Should She Worry About This?”
She had no reason to worry about this.
After all, it was Mrs. Lin who married Lin Heng.
She couldn’t care less about someone else’s husband!
Shang Xinglu and her sisters went out to eat and have some fun.
After dinner, Shi Rui and Xue Shaoying insisted on taking her shopping, buying clothes and bags, all of which they claimed were “hospital discharge gifts.”
They shopped for an hour, but Shi Rui and Xue Shaoying soon said they were tired.
But they usually wear high heels and battle all day long without a problem.
Shang Xinglu chose not to say anything.
The three of them then had some afternoon tea. Shi Rui, being impatient, couldn’t hold it in anymore and asked, “Since you’ve made up your mind to divorce, have you hired a good lawyer… don’t let yourself lose out.”
Everyone was an adult, so of course, they understood the meaning behind “don’t lose out.”
Shang Xinglu patted her chest. “Money’s not an issue!”
Shi Rui: “You idiot!”
Xue Shaoying: “…We agreed not to argue.”
After a day of shopping and eating, Shang Xinglu finally went home. The sunshine outside the car window was so bright, almost too bright. On the street, girls walked by holding umbrellas, hurrying along, their faces hidden, only their white thighs visible.
Shang Xinglu basked in the sunlight from the car window, squinting her eyes. She felt that today was the most relaxed she had felt in the past two months.
At night, after dinner, Lin Heng wasn’t home, so Shang Xinglu didn’t have to sneakily watch the penguin videos on her phone. She could watch them directly on the big screen in the living room.
And her silly brother had even sent her boxes of penguin plushies during her hospital stay.
Since they were sent, she couldn’t let them go to waste.
With the spirit of not wasting anything, Shang Xinglu had the maid arrange them all over, turning her minimalist modern living room into a cute penguin paradise.
The big screen showed penguins, and surrounding it were penguin plushies. Shang Xinglu felt like she was turning into a penguin herself.
She lay on the sofa, watching the adorable and fluffy penguins, when suddenly a male voice appeared, saying indifferently, “Looks like you’re in a good mood.”
Shang Xinglu lazily turned her head. “…Huh!”
It was Lin Heng!
Shang Xinglu gasped!
It was her dad!!!
She reflexively jumped up from the sofa and stood at attention.
The screen was showing a documentary about penguins, showing various penguin postures.
Shang Xinglu quickly glanced at Lin Heng, then at the screen, and rushed to stand in front of it, trying to use her body to block the fluffy penguins.
She was only halfway through blocking it when she thought, wait, although Lin Heng is still my husband, this isn’t his territory anymore!
My territory! My penguins! Mine!!!
Shang Xinglu stood up again and cleared her throat. “What are you doing here?”
Lin Heng looked at her.
Then, inevitably, his gaze shifted to the big screen. Lin Heng frowned.
He said, “I have two documents. They should have fallen here. I’m just coming to get them.”
“Oh, take your time.”
“The list I sent you, did you look at it?” Lin Heng asked again.
“What list?” Shang Xinglu was confused.
Lin Heng sighed silently.
“The lawyer list. Didn’t you want to get a divorce?”
Shang Xinglu: “…”
Uh, where did I send it to?
She didn’t want to ask but said, “What’s the rush? If I say I’m divorcing, then I’m divorcing. Can I change my mind?”
At this, Lin Heng looked at her strangely, but the penguins on the screen were so distracting, so he quickly turned his gaze and started walking out.
As he walked, he said, “It’s getting late. I’ll eat here and leave afterward.”
Shang Xinglu followed him outside, like a penguin lining up behind another.
Lin Heng came to the dining room. Even though they were separated, he was still the man of the house here, and soon the food arrived.
Lin Heng rarely spoke while eating, but today, as he looked at the person beside him who was sipping water and whose eyes kept glancing, Lin Heng broke his usual silence.
“Did you take your medicine?”
Shang Xinglu: “…No.”
She had been feeling headaches just from seeing the pills recently, and she didn’t like going to the hospital either.
Lin Heng frowned again and asked the maid to bring her medicine, then handed it to her. “Open your mouth and take your medicine.”
Shang Xinglu: “…”
She pinched her nose and swallowed the pills.
At that moment, she thought, isn’t this my territory???
Her pills contained a sleep aid, and after taking them, she didn’t stay to eat with Lin Heng. Instead, she went to the bedroom to sleep.
After eating, Lin Heng searched for something. Before leaving, he went to check on Shang Xinglu.
The King-size bed that she usually dominated, sprawling out with her arms and legs, was now occupied by a curled-up figure. She was already thin, and in the vast bed, she looked even smaller and more delicate.
Lin Heng sat on the edge of the bed, gazing at Shang Xinglu.
Her hair was a little messy, and Lin Heng gently brushed it aside.
At that moment, Marilyn came in to check on Shang Xinglu. She witnessed the scene and couldn’t help but ask, “Sir, I have a question. Why did you agree to divorce your wife?”
Lin Heng remained silent.
He only asked, “Has she been sleeping well recently?”
Marilyn replied, “Not really, she’s been having a lot of nightmares.”
Lin Heng took off his shoes, leaned on the bed, and pulled her into his arms.
“I’ll stay with her for a while, wait until she falls into a deep sleep before I leave.”
Marilyn wanted to say something but hesitated. After a moment, she glanced at them one last time before leaving.
Lin Heng held Shang Xinglu, and in the dim light of the night lamp, he saw her frown slowly relax.
He couldn’t help but kiss her forehead.
“Good night.”
He added, “Sweet dreams.”
And I’ll always love you.
Lin Heng didn’t say the last part aloud, but when it crossed his mind, he froze for a moment.
Shang Xinglu only felt her forehead and cheek itching. Impatient, she waved her hand.
Slap!
The sound of a slap rang out, and Lin Heng’s cheek was left red.
Lin Heng: “…”
Where did my sweet dream go?
