Chapter 68: “Grandfather, Can You Take Me Home?”
After finishing the cake, Su Jian threw Jiang Huaijin out of the space.
“Go back home quickly, your dad must be worried since he can’t find you!”
“Where are you going?” Jiang Huaijin grabbed her hand, not letting her leave. Su Jian shook him off.
“Why do you care? You’re just like your dad, always trying to control me!”
Su Jian walked forward briskly, and Jiang Huaijin followed closely behind her.
“You can’t just walk around. What if my mom shows up? What if we get separated?”
“Don’t worry, your mom won’t show up for now. I can’t sense her presence.”
The two of them walked farther from home, and ahead, a military jeep was parked. Jiang Huaijin couldn’t help but look at it a few more times.
“This car looks like the one my dad drives!”
A man got out of the car. Uncle Ji, irritated, lit a cigarette. He had come here to find someone, but his car broke down halfway, and now, in the dead of night, there was nothing around—not a soul in sight.
When Jiang Huaijin saw the man, he froze. It was his uncle! How did he end up here? In his past life, it wasn’t until the whole family had died that his uncle finally found them. That was when he learned the truth.
Gu Yalan had taken everything from his grandmother. Later, he accidentally discovered that his grandmother was still alive and sent someone to investigate her. Even though his grandmother had lost her memory and couldn’t remember anything, Gu Yalan still ruthlessly bribed a doctor to have her killed while she was ill. She didn’t even spare the younger children.
She was afraid his dad would investigate her, so she used the Ji family’s influence to suppress his dad, forcing him to go undercover in a dangerous black market area, deliberately leaking his dad’s cover identity, leading to his dad’s tragic death far away from home.
Jiang Huaijin clenched his hands tightly, his teeth chattering as he fell into the nightmare of his past. Su Jian noticed something was wrong with him and reached out to poke him with her finger.
Hey, little brat, what’s wrong with you?”
Jiang Huaijin took a few steps forward to run ahead, while Ji’s father thought about calling his son and dragging the car back. But then, a child tightly hugged him.
“Grandpa, I’m lost. Can you take me home?”
Ji’s father looked down and saw a white, tender child looking up at him with a pitiful gaze. He’d never liked kids, but for some reason, as soon as he saw this one, his heart softened. Without thinking, he picked him up.
“Sweetheart, where do you live? Grandpa will take you home.”
“Over there, I’m scared.”
Jiang Huaijin pointed in the direction of home, his face showing a timid expression. Ji’s father felt sorry for him and patted the child’s back gently.
“Don’t be scared, Grandpa will take you home.”
He glanced at the broken-down car, then decided to leave it there and call his son to handle it.
“Grandpa, wait, I have someone else with me.”
Jiang Huaijin pointed toward Su Jian, who was hiding and sneaking away.
“Su Jian, come over here, we’ll go home together!”
“I’m not going back!” Su Jian quickly ran farther away. Jiang Huaijin angrily looked at her, and Ji’s father, seeing the figure running off, couldn’t tell who it was.
“Who is she?”
“Su Jian, my good friend!”
Ji’s father softly scolded him.
“It’s late at night, and you’re not asleep, running around playing with friends. What if you run into bad people? You can’t do this anymore, understand?”
“Got it!”
Jiang Huaijin distractedly replied, his eyes fixed on the direction where Su Jian had run. He wasn’t really worried that Su Jian would run into danger—after all, Su Jian had space. If anything happened, she could just hide in it. What worried him more was that his mom might suddenly appear and get scared.
Jiang Huaijin pointed to the road, and Ji’s father carried him as they walked toward the villa area. Just as they reached the gate, Shen Yunhe hurried out and came face to face with Ji’s father. Both men froze in place.
It was like seeing a younger version of himself. He looked so much like him—his own son didn’t even resemble him this much. This had to be his older sister Ji Wanting’s son. Ji’s father, filled with excitement, grabbed him.
“You… what’s your name? Is your mother Ji Wanting? Where is she?”
Shen Yunhe was in a hurry to find Su Jian and didn’t want to waste time talking. He quickly took his son from Ji’s father.
“Jiang Huaijin, where did you take your mother?”
Jiang Huaijin lowered his head, feeling a little guilty. “Dad, I’m sorry, I didn’t keep an eye on Mom, and she ran off.”
Seeing that his father was about to get angry, he hurriedly added, “But don’t worry, Su Jian is very capable. She won’t be in any danger. If you keep going west, you should be able to find her!”
“Alright, I’ll go look for your mother. You stay here quietly, and when I get back, we’ll talk about this!”
Shen Yunhe set him down and rushed out, but Ji’s father stopped him. Shen Yunhe impatiently paused and turned to look at him.
“Who are you?”
“I’m Ji Yunfeng’s father, your uncle. Your mother, she’s my real sister.”
Shen Yunhe was shocked. He looked at this man who resembled him so much. His mind was in chaos, and he was anxious to find Su Jian. Jiang Huaijin, seeing his father’s hurry, said, “Dad, he really is my uncle. You should go find Mom, Uncle will stay with us at home!”
“Alright!”
He believed his son. After the dream he had, he knew Jiang Huaijin was reborn and must know a lot of things he didn’t. He turned to Ji’s father, “I’m in a hurry to find someone. Please go inside, and we can talk more when I get back!”
“Alright, go ahead with your business, don’t worry about me!”
Ji’s father quickly picked up Jiang Huaijin and rushed into the house, worried that if he was even a moment too late, Shen Yunhe might not let him in.
Shen Yunhe hurried out, and Ji’s father returned to the house with Jiang Huaijin. They sat on the sofa while Jiang Huaijin poured a glass of water and handed it to Ji’s father.
“Grandpa, drink some water.”
“Good, my little sweetheart.” Ji’s father took the cup, drank a sip, and put it down on the table. Then, he pulled Jiang Huaijin onto his lap.
“Sweetheart, how old are you?”
“Seven years old.” Jiang Huaijin answered obediently.
“Is your dad your only son?”
Jiang Huaijin shook his head.
“No, Mom had three of us. I’m Jiang Huaijin, the eldest. My little brother is Jiang Huaiyu, and my little sister is Jiang Huirou. We’re triplets.”
“Triplets!” Ji’s father looked surprised, and Jiang Huaijin ran to a cabinet and took out a photo.
“Look, here’s a photo of the three of us.”
Ji’s father took the photo. There were three children who looked very similar to each other—two boys and a girl. They looked obedient and adorable.
“How wonderful. If your great-grandmother could see you, she’d be so happy!”
“How’s great-grandmother’s health?”
“Sigh…” Ji’s father sighed.
“She’s getting old, and her health isn’t good. She’s been in the hospital lately. She’s always hoping that your grandmother will come back. I want to take you all back so she can see you. Maybe her health will improve!”
In their previous life, their great-grandmother never got to see them.
Jiang Huaijin lowered his head, his fingers turning white from clenching. His eyes were filled with darkness and bloodlust. He was going to the Ji family. Gu Yalan was there. He would take revenge for the blood feud from his past life. He swore that he would not rest until she was punished—he would tear her apart, skin and bones!
