Chapter 5: Waiting
Chen Lu woke up and immediately grabbed his phone, instinctively wanting to send a message.
He snapped out of it just before clicking send, slapping himself hard.
In the morning, Chen Lu returned to the classroom, looking at his three roommates with their dark circles under their eyes, and then at the “Jurisprudence” textbook on his desk.
They say that persuading someone to study law is like cutting them with a thousand knives.
But to chase a girl, he went to the same university and even chose the same major. That’s a huge joke…
The familiar, beautiful figure was sitting slightly ahead and to the left. He had always focused on her back during class, but he had to change that habit.
Since class hadn’t started yet, people kept coming in, and they all looked at Chen Lu and then at Mo Yuqing.
They seemed to want to continue watching the drama unfold.
“Did you delete her contact information?” Jiang Chao asked in a low voice.
Chen Lu shook his head, his expression somewhat gloomy.
“Damn, are you still a lickspittle? Why haven’t you deleted it?” Jiang Chao was clearly speechless.
Hearing this, Chen Lu turned to him, “It takes time to let go. Seven years is too long. You think it’s like reading a novel, you can just delete it. If I could be so decisive, it would mean that I haven’t had any real feelings for these seven years.”
Li Sinian, who was sitting next to them, chimed in, “That’s true. They say it takes twenty-one days to form a habit. You can’t expect Chen Lu to let go of a seven-year habit overnight.”
Jiang Chao leaned closer to Chen Lu, “Bro, I’ll introduce you! I’m lacking everything except girls I know!”
“I’ll introduce you to one a day, and if you see the same one twice, you can call me a loser! If any of them are smaller than a D cup, you can call me a loser!”
Seeing Chen Lu lying on the desk, bored, Jiang Chao continued, “You think the girls I know are frivolous? I can have my girlfriend introduce you!”
“I’m tired, let me rest. Maybe while I’m resting, the person who loves me will come to me?”
With that, Chen Lu fell asleep.
To be honest, he felt heartbroken when he saw Jiang Chao. Jiang Chao had always been his wingman in pursuing Mo Yuqing, but he didn’t get Mo Yuqing, and Jiang Chao ended up chasing her roommate, Liu Yan.
Chen Lu dared to sleep, but Jiang Chao and the others didn’t. The last time Chen Lu slept, he slept too, and the result was that Chen Lu did well in all his exams, while he failed miserably.
You guys, who don’t seem to study hard but still do well in exams, are simply the bane of the class!
Jiang Chao cursed silently in his heart and then forced his eyelids open.
Just as he was about to fall asleep, his phone vibrated, waking him up again.
It was a message from a freshman.
“Brother Chao, do you know Chen Lu? I’m helping a friend find him. I’m at the classroom door now, can you call him out for me?”
Jiang Chao was stunned.
Did Chen Lu’s words come true?
He immediately woke Chen Lu up. Whether it was love or not, as long as it could distract his good brother.
Chen Lu woke up groggily and walked outside. A girl saw someone coming out and hurried over to him.
Everyone in the classroom instantly turned their attention to Chen Lu, who was leaning against the door.
It was normal for someone to confess to Chen Lu, given his good looks and personality.
Although he wasn’t the class monitor or a member of the student union, he was still very popular.
He had always kept his distance from other girls while pursuing Mo Yuqing, so not many girls confessed to him knowing it was hopeless. Now that Mo Yuqing had publicly rejected him, it wasn’t strange for girls to confess to him when they saw an opportunity.
Many people kept looking back to see Mo Yuqing’s reaction.
Chen Lu was Mo Yuqing’s most loyal pursuer, everyone in the class knew that.
Mo Yuqing, however, didn’t look at Chen Lu at all, she was humming and looking out the window.
“Hello?” Chen Lu looked at the short-haired girl in front of him, who seemed very cheerful, and greeted her awkwardly.
The girl was clearly stunned when she saw him, her eyes blinking.
“Senior, hello! I’m Liang Zhirou’s friend. She’s working part-time and can’t ask for leave, so she asked me to ask you when you’re free. She wants to thank you personally.”
“She’s from this school too?” Chen Lu was shocked, he was instantly wide awake.
“Yeah, we’re both in Accounting.”
“Oh, I’m free after class.”
“Then I’ll have her wait for you at the library entrance!”
For some reason, Chen Lu felt like the girl was smirking.
It was like the smile his mother would have when watching a TV drama where the male and female leads were together.
The girl then left, “Senior, remember my name is Lin Miaomiao!”
Chen Lu, who hadn’t slept much the whole night, sat back down, now almost completely awake.
Could it be such a coincidence?
Why doesn’t she live on campus?
“Stop turning your head, she’s gone.” Liu Yan rolled her eyes at Mo Yuqing, “It wasn’t a confession.”
“What does it have to do with me?” Mo Yuqing pouted and also lay down on the desk.
…
After class, Chen Lu was about to leave when the counselor called him over.
Their counselor had just graduated with a master’s degree and already had a mature woman vibe, like a middle school teacher.
She wasn’t easy to get along with, but because Chen Lu was efficient, she was more lenient with his requests for leave.
The price was that she would occasionally call him to do some grunt work.
“Xiao Lu, come help me with the roster.”
“Is it urgent? Can I go later?” Chen Lu asked, somewhat speechless.
“It’s very urgent. If you go any later, your leave slip will be approved by someone else, and you can prepare to welcome a new counselor.”
“I’ll help him!” Jiang Chao quickly stepped in to help his good brother.
“You can’t, do you not know how unreliable you are?”
Jiang Chao saw that his other two roommates had their own things to do, so he could only watch Chen Lu anxiously.
At first, Chen Lu saw the thin stack of files and felt relaxed.
He thought that if he was quick, he might still make it.
But after finishing that stack, he was told that the tall stack next to it was also his.
He wanted to die.
After half an hour, it suddenly started raining outside. Chen Lu closed the window before the cold wind could blow in.
April weather is more fickle than a girl’s mood. Today it could be 28 degrees and sunny, tomorrow it could be single-digit temperatures.
But this made Chen Lu’s tense heart relax a little. It had been so long, and it was raining, Liang Zhirou wouldn’t wait for me anymore, right?
He would rather be stood up than have someone wait for him for so long.
Another half hour passed, and Chen Lu finally finished the huge stack in front of him.
The rain outside had also subsided from when it started.
“You’ve worked hard, Xiao Lu, I can handle the rest myself. I have an umbrella here, you take it…”
Chen Lu bolted out the door before she could finish speaking, running towards the library.
Although he thought that normal people wouldn’t wait there, after all, he was already an hour late.
But Chen Lu felt like he had to go and check.
Along the way, many couples were walking leisurely under matching umbrellas, as if this level of rain would only bring them a very suitable atmosphere.
Only one boy was dodging people and running wildly in the rain, splashing up water with every step.
It was completely out of place.
Because Chen Lu had been exercising for the past few years, and he had to run around to bring Mo Yuqing her lunch, his fitness level was pretty good.
Unfortunately, his well-defined abs had only been seen by his roommates.
…
When he reached the library entrance, he saw a girl standing there timidly, as if she was feeling cold, she would shrink into her coat from time to time.
But she was still standing in a very prominent place. Occasionally, a gust of wind would blow, and the rain would fall on her. Every time someone walked past her, she would lower her head and step aside shyly.
Then she would return to that relatively prominent position.
Although she kept her head down, Chen Lu still recognized her.
Chen Lu hurried over to Liang Zhirou.
She was still wearing the same jeans from last night, but today she was wearing a light green coat. It seemed that when she wasn’t working part-time, she wouldn’t put her long hair in a low ponytail, but would just let it down.
However, this made the girl, who had been keeping her head down, even more inconspicuous. Last night, she had at least had a figure to her advantage, but today, no one could tell how stunningly beautiful this girl actually was.
The occasional rain had already soaked part of her clothes, her ears were red from the cold, and her delicate face made her look both cute and heartbreaking.
“Why didn’t you leave…” Chen Lu asked blankly, his heart filled with complicated emotions.
“The counselor called me to help, I’m sorry.”
Hearing the familiar voice, Liang Zhirou finally raised her head. When she saw Chen Lu, the corners of her mouth seemed to lift slightly, “I was waiting for you.”
The girl said it as if it was the most natural thing in the world.
“It suddenly started raining so hard, it’s so cold. I’m already an hour late, normal people would think I stood them up, right? Especially since I’m so rude, you should have just left.”
Liang Zhirou looked at him seriously, in her clear eyes, Chen Lu could only see himself.
“I promised you.”
The eye contact seemed to drain all her strength and courage, and she quickly lowered her head again.
“And we agreed…”
Chen Lu was even more confused, he didn’t know whether he was happier or more guilty, maybe he was more heartbroken.
How could she be so naive?
“Why didn’t you go inside? You’re getting rained on!”
“I was afraid you wouldn’t find me.”
……
Chen Lu was speechless, he stood there dumbfounded.
So there really are people who will wait for me?
It turns out that not everyone is like Mo Yuqing, who would leave if I’m just a little late.
In that instant, just an instant.
Chen Lu felt something in his heart suddenly melt.
“Because you’re such a fool that you would wait for someone for nearly two hours in the rain just because of someone’s words.”
“I… I’m not stupid.”
Because you came in the rain too, so I didn’t wait in vain…
But the naive girl didn’t say it out loud.
