Chapter 48: Don’t Love Too Much

Chen Lu got out of the car and looked at the Japanese restaurant in front of him.

The decoration was very pretentious, with a gaudy Japanese style.

Form over substance, what a bummer.

This restaurant was located near the university town, but he had never heard of it before.

That meant it definitely wouldn’t be very good.

It was clearly a trashy restaurant that spent a lot of money on advertising, and he didn’t know how many people went there just to check in.

Chen Lu followed the table number Li Sinian gave him and found him sitting across from a girl with a single ponytail.

The table was very low, and they even had to kneel to sit, which made Chen Lu speechless. He secretly vowed to himself that he would never come to this kind of place again in his life.

“Senior!”

The girl turned her head and saw Chen Lu. She immediately smiled at him.

The smile was sweet, but also a bit fake.

Chen Lu nodded and looked at her.

The girl had an oval face, and her features were quite delicate. She could barely be considered pretty.

Maybe 0.8 Lin Miaomiao.

“This is my friend, Chen Lu. We planned the last freshman welcome party together. He was praised by our dean.” Li Sinian introduced the girl to Chen Lu.

Chen Lu didn’t say much. He silently sat down next to Li Sinian. He couldn’t have a good impression of a girl who would cost a guy who wasn’t familiar with her two thousand yuan for a meal.

He didn’t bother to pay attention.

Li Sinian didn’t notice Chen Lu’s reluctance. “This is the girl who hosted the school celebration with me. Her name is Qin Wenxi. She’s a year younger than us.”

Qin Wenxi was a member of the Arts and Culture Department. She had also helped plan the last freshman welcome party, so she recognized Chen Lu when he came in.

But Chen Lu couldn’t remember her at all.

Chen Lu only realized that the girl who hosted the school celebration a few days ago was her when he heard this. No wonder her voice sounded a little familiar.

Then he changed his expression and looked at Li Sinian beside him, thinking to himself, “It’s not a good idea to ask me, someone who was the subject of gossip at the party, to be a wingman. He was standing next to Mo Yuqing and listening at the time.”

“You two worked pretty well together hosting. My friend and I both said so.” Chen Lu said politely. Since he was already there, he might as well play the role of wingman.

At least when Li Sinian paid him back later, this meal would be free.

Qin Wenxi said shyly, “Really? Thank you! I still feel like it’s even more amazing that Senior was not even in the student union last year and could still help plan the party. It feels like a hidden expert.

When you went on stage to host, a lot of girls in my class wanted your WeChat.”

“Wenxi memorizes her lines as fast as you do. I never saw her stumble during rehearsals.” Li Sinian praised her.

“No, I get nervous easily. I really owe you a lot.” Qin Wenxi agreed with Li Sinian with a sweet smile, her tone very close.

Then she continued to talk to Chen Lu about the last year’s party, seamlessly connecting the conversation as if there was no awkwardness.

Chen Lu just agreed casually, and he understood why Li Sinian was willing to come here for dinner.

This girl’s smooth personality gave Li Sinian the illusion that she got along well with him.

If you feel very comfortable chatting and getting along with someone you don’t know very well, it doesn’t necessarily mean that he’s your soulmate.

It could also be because his emotional intelligence is much higher than yours, and he’s just lowering himself to your level.

So, he can catch all the topics you bring up, not because you two are a good match.

“What hidden expert? I’m just a volunteer. You don’t know, he just became the vice-minister, and he came up with a bunch of backup plans for the party, even up to plan E.

So, when the host got sick at the last minute, he could immediately find a solution. He thought of it all beforehand.”

Actually, the truth was that Li Sinian begged him to memorize the script the night before and he went on stage at the last minute.

But Chen Lu wouldn’t tell the truth, of course. He wasn’t the one flirting.

The girl covered her mouth and giggled. “So amazing?”

Li Sinian smiled. “Well, not really.”

Chen Lu didn’t want to speak anymore.

He didn’t know how to continue the conversation after throwing the topic to him. He didn’t have a son as stupid as him.

Seeing Li Sinian eating a bit awkwardly, Qin Wenxi asked him, “Is this your first time eating Japanese food?”

Li Sinian quickly denied it.

Actually, it was his first time.

After the sashimi came out, Qin Wenxi asked Li Sinian very gently, “Do you want soy sauce?”

Li Sinian thought that it was optional, so he shook his head gently. “No, thanks.”

Qin Wenxi smiled slightly and didn’t say anything.

Chen Lu could see that she was deliberately teasing Li Sinian.

He sighed, suppressing his anger and shouted to the waiter, “This is my first time here. How do you eat sashimi here?”

A female waiter immediately ran over and asked Chen Lu about his taste, helping him prepare the dipping sauce.

In the end, Qin Wenxi still poured the soy sauce for him.

Li Sinian seemed to understand something from Chen Lu’s actions. He learned from him and made a new dipping sauce, no longer eating it dry with wasabi.

“Senior, this is your first time here.” Qin Wenxi said with a smile.

Chen Lu had already eaten with Chen Mo once, so he nodded. “Yes.”

Li Sinian was inexplicably very nervous talking to Qin Wenxi. His mind kept getting stuck, and Chen Lu was tortured for an hour.

When they called the waiter to pay, the original protagonist of this dinner, Li Sinian, finally had some presence.

The waiter walked up to the three of them and bowed slightly. “The total for the three of you is 1988. Who will pay?”

“I’ll get it.” Qin Wenxi waved her hand with a smile and called the waiter to her.

Although she said so, she didn’t rush to take out her phone.

Chen Lu had no intention of paying. At the same time, he reached out and secretly pressed Li Sinian’s arm, wanting to see how she would get out of this.

Although he understood everything, he didn’t give everyone a way out.

He was never the kind of person who could watch his friend being played and still swallow his anger.

“How can I let you pay? I said I’d treat you.” Li Sinian immediately opened his payment page.

“Let’s split it. I didn’t eat much.” Chen Lu said seriously to Li Sinian.

Li Sinian hesitated for a moment but still went to the counter. “I’ll pay.”

The room suddenly fell silent.

Chen Lu looked at his phone, too lazy to pay attention. He thought to himself that he would find a reason to beat Li Sinian up later.

“Senior, I remembered you from the freshman welcome party.”

She smiled softly, then continued,

“Add me on WeChat?”

Chen Lu didn’t even lift his eyelids. “Forget it, I’m afraid other girls will be unhappy.”

“Didn’t Sister Yuqing already reject you?” She asked, chin in hand, as if she knew a lot about Chen Lu.

“I didn’t say it was her.”
