Chapter 50: Empathy
Meanwhile.
In the counselor’s office.
“Yuqing, you still have time, take your time.”
The counselor patted the girl beside her with some concern.
The girl had her hair in a ponytail and was sitting by the window, diligently organizing the school recruitment documents. The golden sunset outside seemed to be specially prepared as a backdrop for this stunning girl, making the scene look incredibly serene and beautiful.
Even just looking at Mo Yuqing’s profile made her, a girl herself, feel a little dazed. She thought, no wonder even guys from other departments were chasing after her.
“Don’t tire yourself out. I’ll just get yelled at later. I’m used to getting scolded anyway.” The counselor said with a smile. She had gotten used to being scolded since she was new here.
She just wanted to lie flat and do nothing.
“It’s fine, teacher. This is something I should be doing.” Mo Yuqing gave her a faint smile and continued to work on her own.
“Oh, right, you can ask Chen Lu to help you. You two can finish it quickly together.” She continued to persuade. Actually, she also found it strange. Mo Yuqing only did these things when she was a freshman. Later, she felt tired and let Chen Lu take over everything.
She didn’t know why Mo Yuqing was doing it again now.
Were they fighting?
It didn’t seem like it. Chen Lu didn’t directly refuse to come, and he was still doing the things the monitor should do.
Mo Yuqing was startled when she heard this. The hand that was about to lift the document stopped in mid-air, and her whole body seemed to freeze.
Everything in front of her became blurry. She pursed her lips and smiled bitterly:
“It’s fine… I shouldn’t bother him with everything.”
The counselor was a little confused, but she didn’t ask further.
……
One hour later.
“I’ll take these remaining ones back with me. Goodbye, teacher.”
Mo Yuqing, looking a little dazed, organized the various materials in front of her. These were for the students in her class to use when looking for internships next month.
She gently closed the door. Liu Yan happened to come to pick her up for dinner.
“Why are you wearing a ponytail lately? Wanting a change of style?” Liu Yan looked at Mo Yuqing’s ponytail swaying behind her, curiously asking.
She had always been a fan of long straight hair and enjoyed seeing Mo Yuqing with her hair down.
“Chen Lu likes it.” Mo Yuqing said casually.
Liu Yan almost thought she had heard wrong. Her tone was quite surprised, “Chen Lu likes it?”
“Yeah, when I saw that girl the other day, she had her hair in a ponytail.” Mo Yuqing said, while grabbing her braid behind her. She let go lightly, and her hair fell down all at once. Her hair was very good.
Only her expression couldn’t hide her dejection.
Seeing her best friend’s dejected look, Liu Yan felt a little sad too.
Her conscience told her that this was something Mo Yuqing should bear, but as a friend, she felt heartbroken.
Just as she was about to say something comforting.
“Chen Lu used to be so tired…” Mo Yuqing suddenly said.
She tilted her head slightly, gently pinching her snow-white neck. Every slight movement made her frown in pain.
She couldn’t help but think, it only took two or three days to get this tired. After she quit doing it because she was tired, how did Chen Lu manage to do it for her…
Chen Lu never even complained to her, not once.
“You sit there, I’ll help you massage it.” Liu Yan pointed to the chair in the corridor and said softly.
They sat side by side. Liu Yan turned sideways and gently massaged Mo Yuqing’s neck, “You’ve been sleeping with a stiff neck, right? Plus, you’ve been looking down for so long, it must hurt.
Just bear with it a little, or it will be worse tomorrow. Let’s go buy some ointment and put it on later.”
After she finished speaking, she looked up and saw that the tears Mo Yuqing had shed because of the pain had already formed lines on her delicate face.
She was bewildered.
“Chen Lu, how did he manage back then…” Mo Yuqing held Liu Yan’s outstretched hand tightly, her voice trembling, like a child who had discovered they had done something wrong.
“I even complained about him being slow.”
“How heartbroken Chen Lu must have been at that time…”
Liu Yan didn’t say anything else, she just silently massaged her neck and watched her cry.
Ten minutes later.
Mo Yuqing, who had been silent for a long time, sniffed and said softly, “I will repay him.”
Liu Yan didn’t quite understand, “Repay him for what?”
Mo Yuqing looked at the sky outside, which was gradually darkening, her eyes a little dim, the traces of tears that had flowed down her face had already dried.
“I will repay him for all the kindness he has shown me.”
“He has been chasing you for seven years!” Liu Yan was a little helpless, how could she possibly repay him for that?
She sighed and joked, “If you repay all your debts, you’ll be almost thirty, no one will want you then.”
“I know.” Mo Yuqing wiped her face with a wet tissue and slowly got up to continue looking out the window, “But it doesn’t matter.”
“I will repay him, every bit of it, I will repay him.”
This was the first time Liu Yan had seen this kind of look in Mo Yuqing’s eyes.
She patted the girl’s shoulder, “Let’s go, I’ll buy you some ointment, then we’ll eat.”
Mo Yuqing shook her head, “I want to go home for a while.”
“Is your mom back?”
“No, I just want to go back for a while.”
Liu Yan pondered the look in Mo Yuqing’s eyes, she became increasingly worried and said seriously,
“Then I’ll go with you.”
Mo Yuqing smiled at her.
“What’s with that expression, I’m not going to do anything stupid.”
What’s there to do anything stupid about, I don’t even deserve to do anything stupid.
At Liu Yan’s repeated insistence, Mo Yuqing finally agreed to let her take her home.
Liu Yan also compromised and agreed to leave after dropping her off.
Mo Yuqing leaned against the car window, staring blankly at the gloomy sky. Thick dark clouds gathered together, making people feel depressed.
A sudden clap of thunder almost startled her, pulling her back from her tangled thoughts.
It’s going to rain again…
What a nuisance.
Soon, the car stopped in front of Mo Yuqing’s apartment building. The rain was also pouring heavily.
Mo Yuqing took out her umbrella and slowly opened the car door.
“Every time I come to drop you off, I feel unbalanced. An apartment with a river view, that’s too much.” Liu Yan joked as she watched Mo Yuqing’s back, “I’ll never be able to afford it even if I work hard my whole life, maybe I’ll be lucky enough to buy a bedroom.”
She saw the beautiful girl holding a black umbrella in the rain, the raindrops hitting it with a soft patter.
Mo Yuqing slowly turned around and looked at her, smiling faintly, her dimples showing, “What’s there to be unbalanced about, my home is your home.”
Liu Yan was stunned for a moment, then smiled and waved, “Go on then, remember to put on the ointment.”
Seeing Liu Yan drive away, Mo Yuqing also went back.
