Chapter 4 : The most beautiful female educated youth.
Village Entrance
Lin Lan and Xiao Yuyan came from outside the village. This was the only way to reach Ye Suiwan’s remote path.
Looking at a group of people walking in the night, Xiao Yuyan knew he had guessed correctly.
When he returned home not long ago, he and his mother, Lin Lan, had come here ahead of time.
“Doctor Lin, where have you been?”
“Hey, isn’t this the kid from the Xiao family?”
“Hey, Yuyan is back?”
The villagers walking ahead all started talking at once.
Upon hearing this, Captain Jiang Aijun stepped forward from behind.
“Doctor Lin, Yuyan, did you two rush back overnight?” he asked after seeing them clearly.
“That’s right. It was too late, and I waited for a long time but couldn’t find him. So I came out to meet him. What’s going on with you all? Why is everyone outside?”
“Yuyan is back. If you need anything from him, just ask.”
Lin Lan was surprised and even offered up her son’s help.
“Uncle Jiang, what happened?”
Xiao Yuyan was almost certain that it had something to do with Ye Suiwan.
“It’s nothing, nothing!”
“This educated youth here said that one of the educated youths is missing. We all came out to look for them. Since we have enough people, you two don’t need to worry about it!”
“You must be exhausted from rushing back overnight. Go home and rest.”
Jiang Aijun explained.
Their Xiangyang Brigade had an officer named Xiao Yuyan, who was well-known in the surrounding area. How could they trouble him to look for someone when he had just returned and hadn’t even made it home yet?
“Ah? Which educated youth?”
Lin Lan pretended to be confused.
“It’s Ye Suiwan, the prettiest female educated youth.”
Someone in the crowd said this.
“Ye Suiwan? When it was getting dark, Ye Suiwan came to my place to get some cold medicine. She said she would go back to sleep after taking it. Could she have fallen asleep? How did you determine she was missing?”
Lin Lan asked again.
“Song Kai, are you sure she’s not in the room?”
Hearing this, Jiang Aijun furrowed his brows so tightly that they could pinch a fly to death, then asked Song Kai.
The educated youth at the scene looked at each other before finally looking at Sun Qianqian. It seemed she was the one who had insisted that Ye Suiwan wasn’t in the room, which led everyone to come out and search for her.
“Captain, we knocked on the door, but there was no response, and the door was locked from the outside, so…”
Song Kai couldn’t continue speaking and realized he had been too hasty.
“Nonsense! Why don’t you go back and check again?”
“If she took cold medicine and fell into a daze, it’s normal for her not to hear. Even if she did hear, she might not have the energy to respond.”
“If we hadn’t happened to meet Doctor Lin, who knew about this and confirmed that she was in the dormitory, we would have been searching all night for nothing!”
Jiang Aijun said angrily.
After hearing this, Jiang Sui was the first to turn back toward the educated youth dormitory.
Seeing this, Sun Qianqian immediately tried to stop him but was pushed aside by Jiang Sui.
“Why are you pulling him? He’s just worried and wants to check. You shouldn’t stop him, should you?”
“Sun Qianqian, what’s your real intention? I remember you live in the same dormitory as Comrade Ye. Why do you seem unwilling to wish her well?”
Zhou Jingjing glanced at Sun Qianqian and spoke bluntly.
She had disliked Sun Qianqian for a long time, for no other reason than instinct.
They were from the same batch of educated youths. On the first day the brigade leader brought them to the village, Zhou Jingjing had felt that Sun Qianqian was not a good person.
She had seen too many people in the past who surrounded others with the same greedy and lecherous eyes as Sun Qianqian. She didn’t expect that even after coming to the countryside, she would still encounter someone like that. It really made her nauseous.
After hearing Zhou Jingjing’s words, the local villagers were fine, but the educated youths all turned their gazes to Sun Qianqian.
They weren’t stupid. Thinking about how anxious Sun Qianqian had been earlier, they naturally understood that this matter was probably related to her.
“You, what are you talking about? Of course, I want to find Suiwan. We grew up together!”
Sun Qianqian quickly explained, knowing that Zhou Jingjing was hard to deal with.
“Oh, is that so? Then come with me.”
Zhou Jingjing knew it wouldn’t be appropriate for Jiang Sui, a man, to directly open Ye Suiwan’s door, so a girl had to go instead.
Without waiting for Sun Qianqian’s agreement, she grabbed her and dragged her along.
Of course, Sun Qianqian didn’t want to go. She had to go to that remote path. She was the one who had led Ye Suiwan there. She didn’t believe Ye Suiwan was in the dormitory. Moreover, she had been secretly watching and had only been distracted for a moment, there was no way she had missed Ye Suiwan returning.
But Zhou Jingjing’s grip was too strong. Sun Qianqian couldn’t break free and could only be dragged along.
As they neared the educated youth dormitory, Zhou Jingjing ignored her and quickly ran ahead.
When she arrived outside Ye Suiwan’s house, panting, Jiang Sui was already knocking on the door.
“Suiwan, are you there? Are you feeling sick?”
“Doctor Lin said you caught a cold. Do you still have a fever?”
Jiang Sui asked anxiously. He was genuinely worried.
In his memory, although Ye Suiwan looked delicate, she had always been in good health and had never been sick. How could she suddenly catch a cold?
Inside the house, Ye Suiwan hadn’t expected them to return so soon, but she had caught some key words from Jiang Sui.
Cold? Fever? Doctor Lin?
Piecing them together, she immediately thought of Xiao Yuyan!?
In her previous life, she had never had any contact with the Xiao family, but she knew that Xiao Yuyan’s mother had some medical skills and was the brigade’s barefoot doctor. Could she be helping?
Just as Ye Suiwan was thinking, another female voice spoke up.
“Jiang Sui, step aside. I’ll open Comrade Ye’s door and go in to check on her. This might be a little presumptuous.”
While Zhou Jingjing was speaking, she had already walked up to the door.
“Thank you, Comrade Zhou.”
Jiang Sui was very grateful at that moment. Although he had a good relationship with Ye Suiwan, he couldn’t enter her room, especially when she might still be sleeping.
Ye Suiwan heard their conversation and quickly lay back down in bed.
Moments later, the door lock clicked open.
The room was pitch dark, but they could see a lump on the bed.
Zhou Jingjing let out a sigh of relief and turned on her flashlight, covering the lamp head to dim the light. Now, she could see clearly that someone was indeed lying in bed.
“Comrade Jiang, Comrade Ye is here. Go tell the others.”
Zhou Jingjing said excitedly, feeling a sense of relief.
She had a strong feeling this was related to Sun Qianqian. If Ye Suiwan really hadn’t returned home, her reputation would have been ruined beyond repair.
“Really? That’s great! I’ll go right away.”
Jiang Sui quickly ran off.
