Chapter 2 The Cannibalistic “Humans”
At this moment, deep in Jiao Mountain…
The rain was pouring heavily, and several men were clumsily holding flashlights as they ran and hid. The person behind them was following at a steady pace, not intending to kill them but also not allowing them to escape from sight.
The heavy rain made their bodies ache; they had been running away all night.
The thunder mixed with the heavy rain, and the tall trees in the forest became terrifying when lightning fell. The group was afraid that they might accidentally be struck by lightning in this forest, and their fear grew.
They had heard that there used to be a weapon factory in Jiao Mountain and wanted to try their luck by entering. They thought they were being cautious, but they didn’t expect to disturb someone.
That person followed them and fired a shot, teasing them like teasing a dog, and then let them run all over the mountains.
The sound of the rain drowned out their heavy breathing.
Gradually, one of the three men slowed down.
The other two noticed and urged anxiously, “Hurry up, Lao San, if you don’t speed up, you might get struck by lightning and lose your life.”
However, the person called Lao San didn’t say anything; instead, a low growl came out of his mouth, masked by the sound of the heavy rain.
If you look during the intervals of lightning, you will notice that his eyes are very strange. The pupils have turned into a peculiar gray-white color, as if there were no eyeballs…
He shook his head slightly and looked at the two people running ahead, quickly catching up to them.
Eat.. , eat them…

“Ring—”
The sound of the phone suddenly rang, and Lin Mu felt as if he had just fallen asleep.
He reached for the phone on the bedside table and, in that instant of answering the call, caught a glimpse of the time: 4 a.m.
On the other end, there was He Ze’s voice, filled with urgency and panic.
He Ze: “Lin Mu, are you still in Yichang? Have you seen the Weibo posts? Damn, it’s so bizarre.”
He Ze: “In the coastal cities, there have been strange incidents of people biting each other. Take a look quickly. My god, is this the end of the world? I can’t believe it…”
Lin Mu: “What? What kind of… things are eating people?”
Lightning flashed outside the window, making He Ze’s words even more eerie. Lin Mu was shocked and sat up in bed.
He Ze is his childhood friend. The two of them lived in the same neighborhood since they were young, and they attended the same school from kindergarten to high school.
After his parents left, He Ze was the only person Lin Mu felt close to.
He Ze was usually boisterous and worked as a physical education teacher at Changyi Middle School.
As the final exams approached, it was likely that other teachers took over the physical education classes, so he became a night owl.
He Ze: “Of course, it’s people eating people! Look quickly. Who knows if these posts will be deleted by morning? Hey, you have fewer people in your area, so don’t go out wandering around. We might have those kinds of people here too.”
He Ze continued to chatter.
Lin Mu: “Yeah, okay. I’ll check online first and then we’ll talk on WeChat later.”
Lin Mu hung up the phone, quickly got out of bed, and turned on his computer.
As soon as he looked, he knew that He Ze’s worries were unnecessary.
The posts wouldn’t be deleted tomorrow because the internet was flooded with videos and images. No one could control such widespread news.
He scrolled down one by one, becoming increasingly shocked as he read.
Most of the incidents happened in coastal areas, starting in densely populated places, where cases of people biting each other began to occur.
Many clips, in the mall, in the supermarket, in the school…
Lin Mu clicked on one of them, it was in a shopping mall.
The person going crazy and biting others is an adult man. He suddenly grabbed a girl’s arm at the entrance of the women’s clothing section and bit her.
Blood quickly gushed out, and the girl screamed and cried in shock, struggling to break free.
At first, the people around didn’t realize the seriousness of the situation. They thought the man who was biting had some kind of illness. Several young men from the crowd stepped forward to intervene.
However, this adult man seemed to have astonishing strength. It took some effort for a few people to restrain him.
He ignored his bound hands and feet, instinctively tearing at the girl’s flesh, with blood all over his mouth.
Even when the middle-aged man was pulled away by a few people, he continued to struggle and roar.
At this moment, the camera shook, as if the person recording the video was scared.
Only to see the man raise his head, revealing eyes that had turned gray without pupils. The several young men who were helping him were so frightened that they let go of him and took a few steps back. The onlookers also felt a chill, and screams filled the entire video.
No, not just without eyeballs. Lin Mu could tell that those were a pair of lifeless eyes…
Someone made a phone call to report the incident, and after more than ten minutes, police personnel arrived with long, animal control-like pole catchers. They approached the person who was biting others from a distance, and other personnel came forward to put a muzzle on him, bind his hands, and take him away.
The girl on the ground was lifted onto a police car, which looked very secure with iron bars on the windows.
What was even more surprising was that two of the young men who were bitten during the struggle were also taken away.
The comments section exploded, filled with a sense of panic.
[We’re doomed, we’re doomed. What’s wrong with this person? Is it a contagious disease?]
[Oh my god, these young people are so brave. I would have run away immediately.]
[Brave? They are all being scared out of their minds. By the way, what’s wrong with that person’s eyes? Is it cataracts or contact lenses? He looks like a zombie from a foreign movie.]
