Chapter 17 : Is this man a bit capable?
Back at the post office, Xiao Yuyan waited outside while Ye Suiwan went inside by herself.
She was excited and nervous to hear her father’s voice after such a long time.
“Comrade, would you like to make a phone call?” the staff asked, noticing the woman standing in a daze.
Seeing that she was well-dressed, the staff assumed she must have the means to make a call.
“Yes, yes, please. Here’s the number,” Ye Suiwan snapped out of her daze and quickly replied.
The staff member, seeing that the call was from Beijing, did not hesitate and immediately dialed the number.
After a while, the call was connected.
She had dialed her father’s office directly, so there should be someone there at this hour.
“Dad!” Ye Suiwan’s voice caught in her throat when she heard the familiar voice.
“What’s wrong, Sui Sui? Who bullied you? Tell dad,” Ye Chuang asked nervously.
He had never seen her cry since she was a child, no one had ever made her cry. Something big must have happened while she was away.
“No, Dad. I just miss you,” Ye Suiwan replied.
“There’s another thing. I’m getting married. The man is a soldier, and I’ve already submitted the marriage report. Just don’t stop me when the time comes.”
“I still have some things to take care of here. When I’m done, I’ll take some time off and visit you. You don’t need to come over.”
“Dad, be careful of the tricks that woman at home might play. If she asks for anything, don’t agree to it. I’ll explain more when I get back.”
“Also, it was Sun Qianqian who signed me up to go to the countryside.”
She knew her father would not want her to go, so she needed to let him know about Sun Qianqian’s involvement. Although her father might not fully trust her with what had happened, she felt he should know.
After hearing this, Ye Chuang had only one thought: his daughter was getting married.
“Sui Sui, you weren’t forced into this, were you?” Ye Chuang asked after a pause.
He knew his daughter’s character. She would never do something like this under pressure. If she wasn’t truly interested, who could force her?
Ye Chuang was even more furious now. The man was a soldier? Well, okay!
“Of course not, Dad. I’ll bring him home. You’ll definitely like him.”
“Remember what I said. Be careful with that woman. I’ll be home soon. Take care of yourself.”
Ye Suiwan knew that once she said her piece, her father would figure things out for himself.
After hanging up the phone and paying, Ye Suiwan quickly walked out of the post office.
As soon as she stepped outside, she met the man’s intense gaze.
“I’m fine. Shall we go back now?” she said in a cheerful tone, feeling everything was heading in the right direction.
Her father always listened to her, and he would take her advice seriously.
“So, anything you want to buy?” Xiao Yuyan asked.
Ye Suiwan thought for a moment and realized there wasn’t anything she needed.
Before she left, her family had already prepared food, drinks, and other necessities for her.
“No, let’s go back,” she replied.
“Okay!” Xiao Yuyan thought there was nothing more to buy for the engagement. He would just need to make another trip early tomorrow.
He mounted his bicycle, and after Ye Suiwan climbed on behind him, they headed back to the Xiangyang Brigade.
“Wanwan, after we get engaged tomorrow, will you come with me to the county town? We can buy some wedding supplies. The supply and marketing cooperative there doesn’t have much,” Xiao Yuyan asked.
“Sure, I also want to go to the county town and take a walk. I’d like to buy some gifts for the Xiao family too,” Ye Suiwan responded eagerly.
She nodded repeatedly and gently patted Xiao Yuyan’s back. She liked shopping.
“Ayan, is your vacation for a month?” she asked.
“I want to take you home after we get married, is that okay?” she added.
“Yeah, it’s a month. You can go home,” Xiao Yuyan replied, not expecting her to bring him home so soon.
He thought it might happen after the Chinese New Year or after the baby was born.
“Well, keep an eye on the news in the next couple of days. I think the marriage report will be approved soon,” she said.
She trusted that her father would understand her.
“Alright, let’s pick a good day soon and get the marriage certificate,” Xiao Yuyan replied, eager to finalize things.
When they returned to the educated youth site, everyone had gone to work.
“Ayan, would you like to come to my room and sit down?” Ye Suiwan asked. “I have dumplings, and I made the filling myself.”
Xiao Yuyan smiled. “Sure.”
Ye Suiwan felt lucky that she had always paid attention to cleanliness and hygiene, so she wasn’t embarrassed to invite him in suddenly.
“I’ll get you some water. Please sit down,” she said.
Ye Suiwan not only had a thermos but also a large glass bottle. It was summer, and she had the habit of drinking boiled water. The water in the glass bottle was from Lingquan Creek, which she had collected in the morning.
She poured a glass of water and handed it to Xiao Yuyan.
After he took the glass, he pulled her directly onto his lap.
Ye Suiwan was startled. She never expected him to do that.
“Drink first,” his deep voice whispered in her ear as he brought the cup to her lips.
“Okay, I’m thirsty too,” she replied, although she was blushing.
She was shy, but also nervous.
After taking a sip, Ye Suiwan pushed herself gently in front of Xiao Yuyan.
“You should drink it all,” she said.
“Okay!” Xiao Yuyan drank the rest of it in one go.
Then he looked back at Ye Suiwan, his gaze lingering on her lips.
“There are water drops,” he said softly before kissing her directly.
Ye Suiwan was at a loss for words. How should she feel about this?
Could this man be capable of something like this? Had he already had a girlfriend in this life?
No, no, no, absolutely not.
“Focus, huh?” Xiao Yuyan teased as he noticed her distracted expression, and he lightly bit her soft lips. Ye Suiwan moaned.
This was truly overwhelming.
She could feel his kiss becoming more intense, and she was almost breathless.
When she opened her mouth to take a breath, he thought it was an invitation, and tried to deepen the kiss.
On the verge of suffocating, Ye Suiwan lightly tapped his shoulder.
“Sorry, Wanwan. I couldn’t control myself,” Xiao Yuyan murmured, pulling back.
Ye Suiwan panted softly, rubbing against him, letting him know she wasn’t mad at him.
After a moment, Xiao Yuyan gently kissed the corner of her lips.
“Wanwan, I should go back,” he said. “I don’t think I can bear it anymore.”
He had never struggled with self-control like this before.
“Do you need my help?” Ye Suiwan asked, noticing the changes in his body.
She knew that holding it in would be difficult for him, but for their future happiness, she could help.
Xiao Yuyan was surprised. He didn’t expect her to say that.
Then he chuckled. “I can bear it, but not after marriage, okay?”
He had no choice the night before, but he never intended to ask for her before marriage.
“Do whatever you want!”
“You really have to leave. It’s time to get off work,” she said, trying to change the subject.
“Take this with you,” she added, getting up from his lap and offering him a box of dumplings.
“You’re not allowed to refuse,” she said with a smile.
Xiao Yuyan’s attempts to speak were stopped by her.
“Thank you, Wanwan,” he said, grateful for how kind she was to his family.
