Chapter 27

Li Yuechan woke up from her nap feeling a bit groggy. She quickly calculated the time in her head and figured her mom was still at work, and her dad should be finishing soon.

She decided to check what her dad was up to all day.

Her dad’s steel factory was on the north side of Luoyang City, about a ten-minute bike ride away. She pedaled as fast as she could, making it in just twenty minutes.

She looked at the entrance to the Luoyang City Steel Factory. She had never been there before. It was far away, and her dad had never let them visit him at work.

She found a secluded spot, stashed her bike in space, and touched up her makeup.

She then waited at the gate, and in just a short while, she saw her dad riding his bike out of the factory.

Li Yuechan’s eyes widened. She clearly remembered her mom telling her before she left for her night shift that her dad was working overtime at the factory and would be back late.

So where was he going now?

Li Yuechan grumbled to herself, Li Jianguo, you better not be up to anything shady, or you won’t get away with it.

She quickly crossed to the other side of the road to follow him. But suddenly, a sharp car horn blared. She turned just in time to see the car, and bam!

She tumbled to the ground, the car stopping in a hurry as the driver rushed toward her.

Li Yuechan quickly checked herself. Fortunately, her body was in good shape lately, and she didn’t feel any major injuries. But when she tried to stand up, a sharp pain shot through her ankle.

Great, she had twisted her ankle.

A voice rang out above her. “Hey, are you alright? Do you need to go to the hospital?”

Li Yuechan gritted her teeth and looked up at the man. “Are you kidding me? I twisted my ankle! Are you even capable of driving? There’s only one car on this road, and you still hit me. Can you afford to pay for my injury? I can’t walk now! Are you going to take care of me for the rest of your life?”

The man lowered his head, looking at the furious girl, his lips twitching. He quickly apologized. “Sorry, I’ll take you to the hospital.”

Li Yuechan rolled her eyes at him. She limped over to the car, and the man hurriedly followed her.

She sat down in the back seat, and as the man started the car, she suddenly asked, “Do you even know how to drive? Your life might not be worth much, but mine’s precious!”

The man rubbed his nose. Why wouldn’t my life be worth much? But he quickly reassured her, “Don’t worry, I know how to drive. It’s just… you appeared out of nowhere.”

“What? Are you blaming me?”

“No, no. I must not have seen you.”

Li Yuechan glared at him. “What do you mean? Are you saying I’m short?”

She had been drinking spiritual water lately, and had grown an extra centimeter, now standing at 1.61 meters. This man clearly had vision problems.

The man massaged his forehead. He had seen many women who were gentle and reserved, but this girl was a first for him. Her sharp tongue was faster than her brain, so he admitted his fault first. “No, no. It’s all my fault.”

“Hmph, just drive.”

With a helpless sigh, the man started the car. He didn’t expect this girl, who seemed so ordinary in appearance, to be so fiery. He had always been treated like a star due to his status as a reserve pilot, with lines of girls eager to chase him. But this girl seemed completely indifferent to him and acted like she was sizing him up. He couldn’t help but smile.

At the Luoyang City First People’s Hospital, the doctor pushed his glasses up and asked, “Hit by a car? Do you want to do a full-body checkup?”

“I’m fine, it’s just my ankle,” Li Yuechan replied.

The doctor took a look at the man behind Li Yuechan and asked, “Really?”

Li Yuechan replied with an annoyed tone, “More real than pearls!”

The doctor examined her foot and confirmed it was indeed sprained, then asked, “So it was him who hit you?”

Li Yuechan shot a glance at the man beside her and nodded, “Yes, it was him.”

“Ah!” The doctor had already adjusted her foot into position.

“Okay, it’s nothing serious. I’ll give you some ointment. Just massage it every day and take good care of it. Don’t move around too much.”

Li Yuechan had to hold back the urge to slap someone and tousled her hair. God, it hurts so much!

After the doctor finished, the man hurried to settle the bill and grab the ointment.

“Where do you live? I’ll take you home.”

Li Yuechan thought for a moment. It was impossible to ride her bike with her sprained ankle, so she replied, “East City, Guihua Alley.”

When the car drove into the entrance of Guihua Alley, the entire street immediately buzzed with excitement.

“Oh my god, where did this big leader come from, driving a car through our alley? I bet there are only a few cars like this in the entire Luoyang City, and now one’s here!”

A crowd quickly gathered, staring at this rare sight.

The man stopped the car, got out, and jogged to the back, opening the door.

Only then did Li Yuechan slowly get out of the car.

As soon as the people saw a girl getting out of the car, some familiar voices immediately called out, “Yuechan! How did you end up in a car?”

“Yuechan, who’s this guy? Is he your boyfriend?”

“Yuechan, look at this young man, he’s really handsome!”

Li Yuechan’s ears were filled with noise, and she felt like she was going insane. Today had been nothing but bad luck.

At that moment, a woman called out, “Yuechan, what’s going on?”

Li Yuechan looked up and saw it was Aunt Yang. She tried to hold back her frustration and replied, “Aunt Yang, it’s nothing. This gentleman accidentally hit me, so he’s giving me a ride home.”

“Oh my, are you alright, Yuechan?”

“I’m fine, just a sprained ankle. I’ll talk to you later, Aunt Yang. I need to go inside now.”

“Oh, okay, take care, then!”

Li Yuechan limped back home, with the man following behind her.

He was utterly stunned. Had this girl just switched personalities?

The girl who had gone to the hospital earlier wasn’t acting like this at all. If he hadn’t personally driven her home, he’d almost suspect she was a different person.

He thought for a moment, then shook his head and smiled. I guess it’s just her way of protecting herself.

Li Yuechan didn’t care at all about how surprised the man was. All she could think of right now was one word: annoyed!

She glanced back at the man following her and said, “Alright, you didn’t do it on purpose, so no need to follow me.”

Cheng Huai’an quickly responded, “It’s fine, I’ll make sure you get home safe, then I’ll leave.”

Li Yuechan completely ignored him and continued on her way back home.
