Chapter 59: I Want to Be Faster
Even though the room was dim, the girl’s smile made Chen Lu dazed for a moment.
Only when his phone beeped did he finally hear his own heartbeat again.
“Let me bite back!” he said after regaining his senses, although her playful bite didn’t hurt at all.
Liang Zhirou quickly burrowed back into the covers, regretting and fearing as she pleaded, “I’m sorry!”
The initial excitement subsided, and her usual rationality and self-deprecation quickly enveloped her, making her deeply regret her actions.
Her cheeks were burning hot, and she even felt like crying from regret.
Suppressing her emotions was her instinct. At least until she worked hard enough to support her family.
But the dam she built within herself as a child to be strong and take care of her mother had inexplicably begun to crumble after meeting Chen Lu.
When you have a place to cry and linger, you become vulnerable.
Chen Lu pretended to be the victor, humming a triumphant laugh, “I’ll let you off this time.”
He naturally wanted to cherish the courage the girl had finally mustered.
It was best to just acknowledge it slightly and pretend nothing happened.
Chen Lu naturally brought up a different topic, and Liang Zhirou followed along, skipping over the incident.
She unconsciously felt a sense of relief, and her mood gradually calmed down.
Chen Lu’s kindness was something she could directly feel, while some of it she couldn’t understand for now.
Liang Zhirou sat on the edge of the bed, Chen Lu on a chair beside it. They only had a small nightlight on, whispering softly, as if unwilling to disturb the quiet night.
He almost forgot they were in the hospital, only feeling the silence around him and the girl’s murmurs.
Chatting with a girl in the middle of the night, it felt strangely good.
After a while, Chen Lu suddenly seemed to remember something and looked at Liang Zhirou with a serious expression.
“Why don’t you rest? Everything can be taken slowly.”
“I’ll be with you, we’ll take it slow.”
His voice was firm yet gentle.
At this moment, Liang Zhirou also looked up at him, but for some reason, Chen Lu seemed to see a hint of unwillingness in her eyes…
Because she was in a hurry.
She had so many things she wanted to do, things she wouldn’t do until her mother’s legs were healed.
She increasingly wanted to face life with her head held high, as they had agreed.
Then she could give the boy in front of her the gift she had chosen, even if it might take a long time to save up…
But by then, her mother would be happy, and she would have plenty of time to pursue her own happiness, to do things that would make this boy happy.
Then she could stay by his side without any worries…
Chen Lu was stunned.
This was the first time he had seen Liang Zhirou, who was timid and seemed a bit weak, show such a determined and unwilling look.
It both shocked and intrigued him.
Even with his meticulous thoughts, he couldn’t possibly guess what was going on in Liang Zhirou’s mind at this moment.
After all, they had grown up in different environments, and some differences were difficult to bridge by simply putting yourself in their shoes. It could only be left to time to smooth things over.
He stood up and flicked the girl’s forehead, “This is a punishment for not listening.”
Liang Zhirou covered her forehead, her expression slightly wronged, “I’m listening, I’ll pay attention to rest.”
Pay attention to rest…
Alright then.
Chen Lu smiled at her, “I’ve said what I wanted to say, all that’s left is to support you by your side.”
Liang Zhirou felt strange. She hadn’t expected Chen Lu to be so respectful of her thoughts, even though she felt he would be angry.
He seemed to support her in everything, even the tutoring job. He had told her that if she really didn’t like socializing, then forget it.
Instead of constantly analyzing the pros and cons with her, saying things like ‘it’s for your own good’.
“Why aren’t you angry?” she asked tentatively in a low voice.
Now it was Chen Lu who was confused, “Why should I be angry?”
The girl thought for a long time and murmured, “Because what you said is right, but I didn’t develop in the way you liked…”
She felt that Chen Lu should feel like all his efforts were in vain.
Chen Lu tried to synchronize with the girl’s simple brain circuit, thinking for a while before finally understanding a little bit.
He chuckled lightly, “It’s normal to have differences, and besides, what I said might not necessarily be right.
When I give you advice, I often forget to consider your own wishes. For example, I easily overlook the fact that you don’t like talking to strangers.
You should have your own thoughts.”
Then he poked the girl’s soft cheek again.
“No one has the right to ask you to become the way they like, including me. You just need to do what you want to do.”
Seeing the girl’s dazed look, he couldn’t help but laugh again. He walked slowly to the hard accompanying bed, “Go to sleep, we’ll leave when you wake up.”
Liang Zhirou looked at Chen Lu’s blurry figure, her eyes trembling.
Actually, I’m willing, I’m willing to become the way you like, just like you’re willing to follow my wishes.
The reason I didn’t listen to you this time is because…
I want to get to that time faster.
They chatted a few more words, and Chen Lu sent Liang Zhirou to sleep. He then closed his eyes and fell asleep as soon as he lay down.
The experience of that night was peaceful, and it would likely remain vividly in their memories for many years to come.
…
A few days later, one afternoon.
Chen Lu was lost in thought after class, seeing that Liang Zhirou hadn’t replied to his messages for a long time.
He remembered the message he saw in the part-time job group when he was in the hospital.
He should go check out the express delivery station.
He thought to himself, slowly walking out of the classroom.
Sure enough, Chen Lu saw Liang Zhirou’s busy figure in front of an express delivery station.
He stood in the distance, watching silently, once again suppressing the urge to force her to go back and rest.
Just like in the mall, he called Liang Zhirou again.
“Hello, what’s up?” Liang Zhirou asked softly.
Chen Lu paused for a moment, suddenly not knowing what to say.
The girl didn’t urge him, just waited quietly. For a moment, the only sound on the phone was their steady breathing.
After a few seconds, he finally spoke slowly, “You just got a little better, pay attention to rest.”
“I, I know.”
“Then I’ll hang up.”
“Ah? Okay…” The girl was clearly confused and could only agree dumbly.
She didn’t understand why Chen Lu suddenly made this call.
Chen Lu also realized at this moment that she always held her phone tightly against her ear, waiting for the hang-up sound to ring several times before reluctantly taking it away.
Liang Zhirou rested her head on the table for a while, then stood up and rubbed her neck, continuing to work with a tired look.
He called Li Sinian again.
“Li Sinian, how much does the monthly income for a part-time job at our school’s express delivery station?”
“How would I know?”
“Of course I know you don’t know, I just want you to ask.”
“Damn it, fine, I’ll ask.”
Two minutes later, Li Sinian sent him a WeChat message.
This was the monthly salary for a college student working part-time at the station.
To buy the Sony SLR camera in her shopping cart, she would have to work for almost a whole year.
What would you do if a girl went to this extent for you?
Chen Lu asked himself in his heart.
The answer came quickly.
He continued to hold his phone to his ear, his gaze fixed on the girl in the distance, listening to the regular beeping sound.
Before the person on the other end of the phone could speak, he spoke first:
“Boss, let’s go for a big one.”
“That’s right, I agree.”
