“Let’s talk inside.”
The small two-story house allocated to Old Master Huo had a living room downstairs, fully furnished with sofas and everything else. Wen Ci glanced around the interior.
She had imagined the 1980s would be quite backward, but it was completely different from what she had expected.
“What did you want to tell me?”
Wen Ci bit her lip, feeling inexplicably nervous. She took a deep breath, met Huo Jingyuan’s deep eyes, and slowly began:
“Actually, I’m not exactly a daughter of the Jiang family. My real name is Wen Ci.”
The original body’s name in the countryside was the same as hers.
“What do you mean?” Huo Jingyuan frowned.
Wen Ci continued to explain, “But I can be considered the daughter of the Jiang family. When I was born, the wet nurse replaced me with her own daughter.
I was raised in the countryside, without much education.
It was only a few days ago that I was brought back to the capital from the countryside.”
As she spoke, tears welled up uncontrollably in Wen Ci’s eyes, and her voice trembled, revealing the hardships she had endured since childhood.
Huo Jingyuan roughly understood Wen Ci’s meaning.
Wen Ci was the daughter of the Jiang family.
It was just that she had been mistakenly raised in the countryside.
Seeing Wen Ci’s tears, Huo Jingyuan felt somewhat at a loss.
He had never seen a delicate woman cry before.
Huo Jingyuan didn’t know how to comfort her. After hesitating for a moment, he reached out and wiped the tears from her face, his expression unusually serious. The movement of his Adam’s apple betrayed the tension he felt.
“It’s alright, I don’t mind, Comrade Wen Ci.”
Huo Jingyuan spoke honestly.
He had never met the Jiang family’s daughter anyway.
At the very least, the woman before him left a very good impression.
Wen Ci’s gaze fixed on his alluring Adam’s apple, her eyes slightly raised, her heart pounding like a drum. She couldn’t wait any longer.
Perhaps it was because she had worked so hard fighting zombies.
That heaven had rewarded her with such a high-quality man.
“You really don’t mind?” Wen Ci asked, already knowing the answer.
“I don’t mind.”
After confessing her story, Wen Ci felt much more at ease. She looked at Huo Jingyuan’s handsome face and couldn’t stop smiling.
“Since we’re already married, I want to tell you about my family.” With that, Huo Jingyuan pulled a group photo from a drawer in the bookcase and handed it to Wen Ci, speaking calmly:
“This is my family portrait. My parents are researchers. After they had me, they were assigned to a confidential mission, so I was raised at my grandfather’s house.”
Wen Ci looked down at the photo in her hand. It showed a young couple holding a baby. She then looked up at Huo Jingyuan.
Huo Jingyuan resembled his mother, especially his eyes.
Wen Ci smiled and said, “Auntie is really beautiful.”
Huo Jingyuan sat beside Wen Ci and suddenly thought of something. He looked up and smiled, “Comrade Wen Ci, we’re married now. You can’t call her ‘auntie’ anymore.”
“We haven’t had the tea ceremony yet.”
After the two had finished their confessions, Wen Ci’s stomach let out an untimely growl. She looked at him with bright eyes, licking her slightly dry lips, “So, Comrade Huo, can we have noodles for lunch?”
“Sure.” With that, Huo Jingyuan slowly stood up and rolled up his sleeves, “Do you want thin noodles or wide noodles?”
“Can we have knife-cut noodles?”
Huo Jingyuan went to the kitchen. He wasn’t sure if there was still flour at home. He lifted the lid of the flour jar and saw there wasn’t much left, just enough for one meal.
As for the side dishes for the knife-cut noodles, Huo Jingyuan already had an idea.
The military compound had a canteen. He would see if there were suitable dishes there.
If not, he would borrow some vegetables from the canteen and prepare them himself.
