Chapter 34
Lin Shu Yin also had a dream, but it wasn’t about Shen Guan Nan. She dreamed about the original owner. She dreamed about the original owner’s life in the 21st century.
So, had they switched souls? Well, whatever.
She was doing well in this world, and the original owner was doing well in that world. As long as they were both happy, that’s what mattered.
Today was the last day of their performance in San He Brigade. Tomorrow, they would go to another brigade.
Of course, Lin Shu Yin and the others’ job today was still herding cows.
At noon, Lin Shu Yin stopped Lin Jian She, “Wait, I’ll get you something.”
“Your future brother-in-law bought it. I can’t finish it all myself. Here’s half for you.”
Lin Jian She, “Sister, when did he bring it?” He hadn’t seen him carrying anything yesterday.
Lin Shu Yin, “Last night.”
Lin Jian She was surprised, “He came again last night?”
“Yeah.”
Lin Jian She, “Not bad, not bad. He’s a good guy. He knows how to take care of you.”
“Take it and eat it. Share some with Feng Nian.” After all, it was bought by his cousin.
“Okay, thanks, sister.”
Lin Jian She took the bag of goodies back to the educated youth dormitory. The other educated youths were envious. It was different having a sister.
She sent food every now and then.
Lin Jian She went back to the room. Zhao Feng Nian saw him and asked, “Did Sister Shu Yin buy this for you?”
Lin Jian She, “Yes and no.”
“What do you mean ‘yes and no’?”
Lin Jian She, “This good stuff was bought by your cousin for my sister. My sister couldn’t finish it all, so she gave me some.”
Zhao Feng Nian wanted to cry, “Why didn’t my brother buy me anything?”
Lin Jian She, “You’re not his wife.”
That hit a sore spot. He hadn’t forgotten Sister Shu Yin. He still liked her. Zhao Feng Nian went to a corner to sulk.
Lin Jian She, “But it’s okay. We’ll eat it together.”
“Here’s some candy for you.”
Zhao Feng Nian took the candy, unwrapped it, and put it in his mouth.
“Brother, my mouth is sweet, but my heart is bitter, you know?”
Lin Jian She was speechless, “Get over it. Unless something unexpected happens, my sister will become your cousin-in-law soon. You should give up on your feelings.”
Zhao Feng Nian, “I need some time to heal.”
Lin Shu Yin’s relationship with Shen Guan Nan was only known to the four in their dorm and their two brothers.
The rest of the art troupe didn’t know.
Shen Guan Nan had come yesterday afternoon. It was a day off, and most of the art troupe members weren’t there.
Lin Shu Yin hadn’t told everyone about it. She was dating, so what? She didn’t need to announce it to everyone. But she had told Meng Jia.
Meng Jia laughed, “That guy has liked you for a long time.”
“When you had dinner with him during the New Year, didn’t you feel anything different about him?”
Lin Shu Yin shook her head, “No.” She really hadn’t noticed.
Meng Jia, “He even served you food. He tried to talk to you a lot.”
Lin Shu Yin thought back, “Did he? I forgot.”
“He did.”
“That kid is good. Date him well. By the way, did you file a dating report?” Meng Jia asked.
Lin Shu Yin, “He said he’ll take care of it.”
Meng Jia, “Okay. Just make sure you file a dating report.”
“This watch, did Guan Nan buy it for you?”
“Yeah, he did.”
Meng Jia smiled, “It’s beautiful.” Seeing young people in love made Meng Jia think of her younger days. Her husband, Lao Lu, had been very good to her too.
He had also given her a watch when they confirmed their relationship.
“Shu Yin, you’re singing a duet with Cha Su tonight.”
Lin Shu Yin was confused, “Captain, isn’t Li Ting the one who sings a duet with Cha Su?”
It had always been Li Ting and Cha Su singing together.
Meng Jia, “Your duet song is ‘Meeting at the Obo.’ She doesn’t know Mongolian. You and Cha Su will sing the first part in Mongolian, and then the second part in Chinese.”
Most of the villagers in San He Village were Mongolian. They couldn’t always sing Chinese songs.
Lin Shu Yin, “I understand, Captain.”
Meng Jia, “Yeah. How’s your dizi playing?”
Lin Shu Yin, “I can play the whole song.”
Meng Jia, “Very good. After you finish learning the dizi, why don’t you choose another instrument to learn?”
“Okay.”
She didn’t know if she had a talent for music or if it was because of her experience with these instruments in her previous life, but Lin Shu Yin felt that learning wasn’t difficult.
She had originally planned to learn only two instruments, the horsehead fiddle and the erhu, which she had already learned in her previous life. But after she finished those two, the troupe wanted her to learn more.
She thought she would learn two more, the dizi and the harmonica.
But she saw that the system’s mission had a reward for completing it: an Instrument Fast Learning Card. She didn’t know how many instruments it included.
And as Meng Jia said, there were opportunities to learn instruments in the art troupe. She might as well learn more, especially since there was an Instrument Fast Learning Card.
She thought, she might as well learn as much as she could.
The more skills you have, the better.
Tonight’s performance was Li Ting’s solo, singing “Red Plum Praise.” She was resentful. It was fine that Lin Shu Yin sang it, but Song Wei Wei and Chen Mei Lian could sing it too.
If they could sing it with their level, she could too.
Li Ting was also unhappy about Lin Shu Yin singing a duet of “Meeting at the Obo” with Cha Su. Cha Su was her duet partner. Why did he have to sing with her?
“Captain, I can sing with Cha Su after my solo.”
Li Ting went to talk to Meng Jia.
Meng Jia, “You don’t know Mongolian, do you?”
Li Ting shook her head, “No.”
“Then that’s it. They’re going to sing the Mongolian version this time.”
“Lin Shu Yin knows.”
“Yes, she does. Okay, go practice your singing. It’s the last day. Everyone be energetic.” Meng Jia waved her hand.
Li Ting was really annoyed. How could Lin Shu Yin know everything? She learned instruments quickly, and now she could even sing Mongolian songs?
She didn’t ponder too long. She remembered that Sa Ren, from the band, was Mongolian and shared a dorm with Lin Shu Yin. It was probably her who taught her.
It was the last performance. They were leaving tomorrow, and everyone was reluctant to leave.
The village elders and aunties asked, “Jian She, when will your sister and the others come back?”
Lin Jian She had no idea. He said, “I guess they’ll come back next year.”
He didn’t know if they would come back next year. After all, there were many communes and brigades around Hohhot.
The performance started at 8 pm as usual.
The first song was “Meeting at the Obo” sung by Lin Shu Yin and Cha Su.
“Your sister’s eyes are full of affection when she sings.”
Zhao Feng Nian whispered to Lin Jian She in the audience.
It was true. Sister Jian She’s eyes were full of affection when she sang, as if she were truly in love.
Lin Jian She, “My sister said that when they sing, they can’t just sing. They have to put their emotions into it, immerse themselves in the song, and imagine they are the characters in the lyrics.”
Zhao Feng Nian, “I see.”
Even ordinary people couldn’t resist such affectionate eyes.
Actually, Cha Su on stage was almost overwhelmed too.
He had sung this song with Li Ting before. Although Li Ting had expressions, her eyes were always the same. Her eyes didn’t change.
But Lin Shu Yin… Cha Su wondered if she liked him!
