Chapter 5: The Phone Bill Balance Could Buy His Life

Qi Shenzhi was willing to let her stay in the dormitory, but if he could overcome his somewhat obsessive possessiveness, then he wouldn’t be Qi Shenzhi anymore.

In the end, the two of them set some rules. Aside from when she was sleeping, Su Baili’s phone had to stay in constant contact with him.

Whenever he wanted to hear her voice, it had to be available at any time.

This demand would be unbearable to most people. Not only would it be unreasonable, it might even be considered somewhat twisted.

But Su Baili was different—she actually didn’t see a problem with it.

In fact, there was a small sense of satisfaction from it.

Oh, whose boyfriend is so clingy?

Oh, it’s mine!

Of course, on the surface, Su Baili still tried to act like she was inconvenienced, but deep down she thought, “Well, my boyfriend is my boyfriend; I’m supposed to pamper him. Fine, let’s do it your way.”

And so, Su Baili successfully secured her life in the dormitory.

From then on, their phones stayed in constant contact, except for when they were sleeping.

Eventually, Su Baili got tired of the hassle and even stopped hanging up at night when she went to sleep. Luckily, the quality of the phone was good enough to handle the constant overcharging.

Sometimes, Su Baili worried the phone might explode from being overcharged every day.

But so far, it hadn’t happened.

While the two of them were comfortable, poor Assistant Shen had a miserable time.

Qi Shenzhi had an entire secretarial office at his disposal, with numerous assistants and secretaries. Each had their designated tasks.

Handling the high phone bills was usually the job of Qi Shenzhi’s personal secretary. To reimburse the charges, the assistant had to provide receipts and invoices.

But as Qi Shenzhi’s secretary, Assistant Shen was extremely busy—so busy he had no time to deal with such trivial matters.

He asked Assistant Shen to take care of the invoices when possible.

One day, Assistant Shen happened to pass by a service center while on his way to take care of other matters. He remembered the request and decided to stop in to get the invoice.

That’s when he encountered the subtle stares of the service personnel.

The clerk asked him several times, with a puzzled expression:

“Are you sure this phone bill was actually used for calls?”

“Is there any chance you’re involved in some kind of new scam?”

Assistant Shen stood there, drenched in sweat, facing the questioning looks of the staff.

When he saw the detailed bill the clerk printed out, his reaction was even more awkward than theirs.

“…Good gracious, what kind of family spends so much on phone bills in one month?”

The amount was nearly higher than his salary!

The clerk thought it was a case of fraud, which was understandable.

If Assistant Shen didn’t know whose phone bill it was, he would have thought the same thing.

When he saw the long string of zeros in the balance, he decided not to say anything at all.

He sighed inwardly, “Well, I guess it’s true… Mr. Qi…”

At this point, he was done. He couldn’t even imagine what it felt like to have that much balance in a phone bill account.

His own bank card was downright tragic compared to that.

The poor assistant was physically and mentally exhausted, all while enduring the puzzled stares of the service personnel.

wouldn’t dare approach him due to his powerful status.

But here she was, casually complimenting him like this, her eyes gleaming with admiration.

Su Baili couldn’t help but glance at Qi Shenzhi, a hint of infatuation flickering in her gaze.

Qi Shenzhi chuckled softly, amused by her sudden shift in demeanor. He leaned back slightly, his tone teasing. “So, now that you’ve come back, you’re just here to flatter me?”

Su Baili, realizing she was getting too carried away, quickly cleared her throat and added, “No, of course not! I came back to see you, and I missed you so much!” She gave a quick, exaggerated wink.

Her playful behavior only made Qi Shenzhi smile more. “Is that so? Then I’ll have to keep you around even more to make sure you don’t miss me again.” He pulled her closer gently, causing her to blush slightly.

Just as Su Baili was about to say something, her phone buzzed with a notification. She glanced at the screen, her face immediately changing.

“Oh no, I almost forgot! I still have to finish my assignments. I’ve been slacking off the whole day.” She groaned, rolling her eyes at herself.

Qi Shenzhi raised an eyebrow, his tone a little playful. “You’ve been slacking off? I thought you were just here for your ‘beloved’ professor?” He leaned in, looking at her with a mischievous glint in his eye.

Su Baili puffed up her cheeks, trying to ignore him. “Well, I have to get back to studying. I can’t just laze around all day, even if you’re distracting me with your… charm.”

Qi Shenzhi grinned, enjoying the playful banter. “You better not get too distracted. I still need my personal assistant for some business later today.”

“Personal assistant? I thought I was the one getting pampered around here,” she teased.

“Both,” Qi Shenzhi answered smoothly. “I get pampered too, just in a different way.”

Su Baili rolled her eyes but couldn’t suppress a smile. It was moments like these that made their relationship feel lighthearted, despite all the intensity beneath the surface.

With that, the two of them shared a quiet laugh, knowing the day ahead would be filled with both work and moments of intimacy.

Su Baili, with a satisfied smile, continued to admire Qi Shenzhi’s handsome face.

“Ah~ What a perfect face,” she thought, feeling utterly content.

But then her thoughts wandered off, and she jokingly muttered, “How did this rose end up in the manure?”

Wait, no! That wasn’t right. She wasn’t manure!

“Ugh, not that either!” she scolded herself. “I’m definitely not a pig!”

With a deep sigh, she shook her head. “Okay, fine, at least I’m better than manure…” She found some comfort in her self-talk, despite the strange analogies.

Assistant Shen’s dramatic lament added a humorous touch, as he helplessly reflected on his unfortunate position.
