What makes you think I’ll always like you? Chapter 115

Chapter 115: Within Sight

Liang Zhirou, who had been thinking about how she couldn’t swim, suddenly found herself sprawled on the land, a little dazed.

Her wrist still ached.

She seemed to have been about to fall, then was pulled back…

The girl finally realized what had just happened and hurriedly got up to the shore.

“Chen Lu!”

She called out loudly, the loudest she had ever spoken in her usually soft voice.

At that moment, a figure suddenly emerged from the water. Seeing that it was Chen Lu, she was slightly relieved and became teary-eyed.

She picked up the landing net nearby and handed it to Chen Lu, afraid he had nothing to grab onto.

“It’s okay, I can swim. My foot slipped when I pulled you.” Chen Lu brushed away his water-soaked hair, revealing his eyes as he smiled at the girl who looked vacant. “Are you okay? Scared?”

The moment he saw the girl slip, he had lunged forward. He hadn’t expected to grab her, but his foot slipped and he was thrown back by inertia.

He had just switched places with the clumsy one.

Under such circumstances, it was normal to be caught off guard. Chen Lu was only able to react because his attention had been on Liang Zhirou the whole time.

Unfortunately, due to the height difference, he hadn’t noticed that the clumsy one had already gotten to the edge.

Liang Zhirou shook her head and pulled Chen Lu up.

She held his hand, looking here and there, as if afraid he had been bitten by a piranha, constantly checking him, worried to death. Chen Lu, on the other hand, acted as if nothing had happened, smiling as he looked at the fish he had just caught.

He didn’t care about his soaked clothes or the water constantly dripping from him.

“Are you okay?”

Lin Miaomiao and Chen Mo ran over, out of breath.

“I’m fine.” Chen Lu held the bucket in front of him. “How did you know I caught a big fish?”

Liang Zhirou and Chen Lu were both stunned when they saw Chen Mo’s appearance. Chen Mo was also soaked through, so he simply took off his hair tie, letting his hair fall loose, wet and drooping.

How did these siblings both become drowned chickens…

Lin Miaomiao seemed to see what Liang Zhirou was thinking and sighed in relief. “She saw you almost fall and jumped into the water.”

“Then she saw her brother fall in, so she went back to the shore.”

Her smile turned a little bitter as she spoke. “I’m going to learn to swim this summer.”

She didn’t want to experience that feeling of helplessness ever again.

Chen Mo acted like nothing had happened and went to Chen Lu, two dripping people huddled together looking at the bucket.

The water on their hair kept dripping into the bucket, scaring the big fish into struggling again. Both of them were grinning.

“This is so big, you have to take a picture!”

“Take it now, we can post it on Moments later and say it’s from fishing.”

“Should we buy a fish tank? When people come over, we can say we caught it.”

“Are you crazy? Of course we’re eating it, this fish isn’t even pretty.”

Liang Zhirou blinked, looking at Chen Lu and Chen Mo, then at Lin Miaomiao, whose expression was inexplicably filled with guilt. Her nose felt sour.

She felt like she didn’t need anyone else to care about her anymore. She was the happiest person in the world right now.

Chen Lu looked up at the sun and said softly, “Let’s wrap it up. I’m going to take a shower, then we’ll cook the fish.”

“Yes!” Chen Mo looked at the big fish, getting more and more excited.

Fish bought from the market couldn’t compare to the taste of fish caught by hand.

“Little crybaby, let’s go.”

Chen Lu gently pulled the girl’s hand. “You cook.”

Liang Zhirou sniffed, hooked her arm around Chen Lu’s wet arm, and smiled at him. “Okay.”

The three of them bought a few towels to wipe themselves off and were about to drive home.

Lin Miaomiao felt too embarrassed to go to Chen Lu’s house, so she took a bucket and a fish and went back to school.

As the three of them reached the entrance of the community, they saw Grandpa Zhao sitting under the shade of a tree, fanning himself.

“Xiao Lu, you’re back?”

Chen Lu smiled and nodded, placing the bucket in front of him. “How did you know I caught such a big fish?”

Grandpa Zhao was startled and looked up at him in shock, asking in a low voice, “Where did you catch it? Don’t tell me you bought it at the market.”

“Just at the Cha Cao Wan Reservoir..”

“Come with me sometime.” Grandpa Zhao was getting more and more excited, suddenly finding chess boring.

“Okay, I’ll go home first. I have to show off to my dad.”

Zhao, the old man, watched the three figures disappear, his eyes crinkling with a smile as he saw Chen Lu and Liang Zhirou’s hands unconsciously intertwined.

“Young people are so good,” he murmured. “Old woman, why did you leave so early? You would have been so happy to see Little Lu finding someone.”

“He’s so handsome, you wouldn’t be able to see him even if you were here.”

Chen Guanglin, who was originally contemplating what takeout to order, sat up abruptly from the sofa when he saw his son and daughter’s dishevelled appearance. He quickly asked, “Didn’t you go fishing? Did the fish drag you into the water?”

Chen Lu placed the bucket on the ground and said expressionlessly, “No, Chen Mo pushed me into the water.”

“He pushed me first!”

Taking advantage of the bickering, Liang Zhirou shyly said, “Hello, Uncle.”

“That’s right, you should come over to play more often,” Chen Guanglin said with a smile, nodding. “I’ll take you guys out to eat, what do you want?”

As the head of the household, he couldn’t say he didn’t know how to cook.

It would be even more inappropriate to have his future daughter-in-law cook for the whole family.

Chen Guanglin thought to himself, deciding to reluctantly dip into his small savings.

“No need, your daughter-in-law will cook fish for you,” Chen Lu said calmly.

Liang Zhirou’s whole body tensed up upon hearing this. She looked at him with a mixture of anxiety and annoyance.

Chen Lu coughed lightly and kicked the bucket, causing the fish inside to thrash about. “Look at the fish.”

Chen Guanglin walked over with a curious expression, then froze. “You bought it?”

“Caught it.”

“Bought it.”

“Really caught it, they can both vouch for it,” Chen Lu shrugged.

“I don’t believe it.”

“Did you buy it?”

“Don’t talk nonsense.”

Chen Guanglin looked at Chen Lu and Chen Mo’s thin clothes, thinking they might have actually gone into the water to catch fish.

Those two brats were capable of anything.

He then peered at the big fish, tsk… he was actually a little envious.

Ten minutes later, Chen Lu, who had just finished showering, ran into the kitchen and saw Liang Zhirou cooking.

She had her hair tied up in a bun, revealing her smooth, beautiful neck as she meticulously chopped vegetables, the sound of the knife hitting the cutting board echoing through the kitchen.

Her back was slender and lovely, making him want to hug her from behind.

Chen Lu had fantasized about it the first time he saw her, but now he could openly embrace her from behind.

The girl jumped in surprise and trembled slightly in his arms, but she didn’t resist. Instead, she rubbed against him like a cat.

“When did you learn to swim?” she asked softly.

Chen Lu pondered for a moment before replying, “I learned in elementary school. I learned to swim because I fell into the water when I was little. Thankfully, your boyfriend is smart, he held his breath and didn’t move, and he actually floated to the surface.”

He didn’t dare to mention that he almost drowned in a swimming pool when he was little. Chen Guanglin went to the bathroom and he ran to the deep end. When Chen Guanglin saw him, he quickly pulled him up.

He got a good beating from Wang Xiaoxia when they got home.

Chen Lu always felt that the swimming pool was poorly designed. He could always touch the bottom, but who would have known that there was a slope?

His foot slipped and he couldn’t touch the bottom anymore.

Chen Lu buried his face in the girl’s neck, inhaling the faint fragrance. “You’re cutting so fast, aren’t you afraid of cutting your hand?”

Liang Zhirou raised her hand in front of Chen Lu’s eyes and bent her fingertip. “I use the knuckle to hold the knife, so I can’t possibly cut my finger.”

“Damn, I guess I’m an idiot,” Chen Lu said, his eyes fixed on her. He could cook, but he didn’t know you could do that.

He still lacked experience.

He picked up a piece of chopped cucumber and stuffed it into his mouth. “Teach me how to cook sometime, you cook so well.”

The girl turned around and tilted her head, meeting his gaze.

“You don’t need to learn.”

“I can cook for you for the rest of my life.”
