Chapter 126: A Lifetime
The girl nodded vigorously, her whole body leaning against Chen Lu. “I want to be a kind person too.”
Chen Lu smiled at her, his eyes full of indulgence. He spoke frankly, “You already are, that’s why this happened.”
Liang Zhirou found his words very comforting, but she didn’t say anything else. She just took a deep breath.
After the initial feeling of unreality, a persistent nervousness followed. After all, the waiting process was the most terrifying.
Chen Lu reached out and touched the girl’s cheek, then squeezed it hard, pinching a piece of flesh.
“It hurts…”
Liang Zhirou closed her eyes tightly on that side, complaining in a pitiful tone.
If you didn’t know better, you’d think she was a little slow. Even with the pain, she didn’t try to move away, instead she just complained.
“Good, it should hurt. Who told you to get into trouble without finding me?” Chen Lu suppressed the urge to smile at her cuteness, deliberately putting on a stern face to look at her.
“I can only find you…” Liang Zhirou pouted slightly. She really only had Chen Lu to rely on. “I just hesitated for a bit.”
“Why? Could it be because you’re afraid I’ll find you a burden?”
The girl hummed softly in agreement. When she heard that Xiao Xunfang needed surgery that afternoon, she hid away and cried for an unknown amount of time.
She kept wiping her tears and opening her phone’s contact list, moving her finger to Chen Lu’s name, but she never made the call.
She repeated this process countless times, until her eyes were no longer swollen, before going home to cook for her mother.
She knew that Chen Lu would immediately rush over to help her, but she couldn’t help but hesitate.
She didn’t want to trouble others, she was afraid of being rejected… These habits had been ingrained in her for years, and they weren’t easy to change.
“I know I was wrong.”
Before Chen Lu could pinch her again, Liang Zhirou quickly whispered, her head slightly lowered, her watery eyes blinking at him.
No guy could resist this sight, and Chen Lu was no exception.
Chen Lu’s hand, which was suspended in mid-air, continued to reach out, helping the girl tidy her bangs. He snorted, “Good to know.”
“It seems I need to let you know how amazing your boyfriend is. In two months, when the company is stable…”
At that moment, a doctor opened the door to his office, sticking his head out and asking the two, “Are you family of Xiao Xunfang?”
“Yes.”
Chen Lu stood up and responded in a low voice. Then, he asked anxiously, “When can the surgery be scheduled?”
“We’ve been arranging it since the day before yesterday. It can be done tomorrow.” The doctor wearing square-framed glasses explained seriously. “Because this isn’t a regular surgery, not everyone can do it. We can’t just do it on the spot when you ask.”
Actually, the fact that the surgery could be scheduled for tomorrow was the result of many “unforeseen circumstances” working together.
Hearing Chen Lu’s “Yes,” Liang Zhirou’s slightly open mouth closed again. She lowered her head and pursed her lips, quietly moving closer to Chen Lu.
As if he had eyes on the back of his head, Chen Lu immediately noticed the girl’s movement and held her hand tightly.
“Okay. Then, what’s the expected outcome after the surgery… Is it optimistic?”
Chen Lu continued to ask softly. Since Xiao Xunfang was hospitalized that morning, she had been undergoing various large and small examinations, and it wasn’t until the afternoon that she finally lay down in bed peacefully.
As soon as he finished speaking, he felt Liang Zhirou grip his hand even tighter, a completely different force from her usual grip. Clearly, the slow-witted girl was unconsciously doing this.
Chen Lu tightened his grip on her hand, his thumb gently rubbing her twice, signaling her not to be nervous.
“The lead surgeon is a leader in our field, and the expected outcome is optimistic.” The doctor looked at the report and sighed, “Actually, her case was quite easy to treat. If she had undergone surgery from the beginning, it would have been no problem for her to fully recover to normal function.”
“The most optimistic outcome now is that she can walk, running and jumping are difficult.”
On the side that Liang Zhirou couldn’t see, Chen Lu finally loosened his clenched fist. He chuckled softly, “Even if it’s like this, we are very satisfied. Thank you for your hard work.”
As long as there is a chance of improvement, this money is worth spending.
At least we tried.
The doctor nodded and handed the examination report to Chen Lu, “There’s nothing else left. Remember not to eat or drink six to eight hours before surgery.”
He closed the door as he spoke. Another man holding a report who wanted to ask something had to go back to the side and wait obediently.
This anxious and lonely expression was too common in the hospital, so Chen Lu hated this place.
Chen Lu held Liang Zhirou’s hand, and the two walked side by side towards Xiao Xunfang’s ward. The floor in the corridor had obviously just been mopped, and there was still water on it. The pungent smell of disinfectant kept pouring into Chen Lu’s nostrils, making him unhappy.
Even if they were so close, he couldn’t smell the fragrance of her soft hair.
“Continue talking about what we were talking about earlier.” Chen Lu noticed that Liang Zhirou was still a little nervous, so he changed the subject.
“In two months, I will definitely let you see how much money your boyfriend earns.”
Micro-games are different from mobile games with licenses. Those mobile games often have the most revenue when they are first released, which is why so many second-dimensional mobile games have explosive revenue on the first day and then slowly cool down.
But platform mini-games often need one or two months of settling before they can reach their peak.
Chen Lu squeezed the girl’s finger, “I’m going to be a big boss in the future, you, my girlfriend, can’t be so reluctant to spend money, you know?”
“If I had really called you to borrow 100,000 yuan then, would you have lent it to me?” Even though she knew the answer, Liang Zhirou couldn’t help but ask in a low voice.
“Of course, but I would first threaten you to marry me.” Chen Lu chuckled, “I’m not a good guy, how could I help you for free without getting any benefits? That’s something only the biggest fool in the world would do.”
Liang Zhirou held Chen Lu’s arm, turned her head to look at him, “What about a million?”
“Then you have to do my laundry and cook for me for the rest of your life. You have to make whatever I want to eat. Not only do you have to be bullied by me every day, you also have to give birth to a litter of children.”
Chen Lu seriously chatted with her about these childish and boring topics.
“What about ten million?” the girl continued to ask.
“Ten million is ten lifetimes.”
Liang Zhirou nodded thoughtfully, “Then lend me ten million.”
Chen Lu was stunned for a moment before he understood what the girl meant. The corners of his mouth immediately went out of control and couldn’t help but rise. He chuckled softly, “Then don’t regret it. Once I make ten million, you won’t be able to escape.”
Liang Zhirou’s nervous mood dissipated a lot. She held Chen Lu’s arm tightly, as if she wanted to hold on to him, “I won’t run away!”
The girl didn’t treat her previous question as a joke. After a while, she suddenly said in a low voice, “Actually, you don’t need to make ten million, after all, making money is tiring.”
I haven’t even seen a million, how can I spend ten million? As long as you say you love me, I’m willing.
“What did you say?” Chen Lu, who was still thinking about the feasibility of making ten million within a few years, finally came to his senses and asked curiously.
“Nothing, nothing…”
